Yung Money cashed in on the second night of the 33rd Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals at the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Elk Grove’s Kyle Larson made sure California born drivers driving for owner Keith Kunz went two for two in consecutive nights, taking the lead from Zach Daum on Lap 5 of Tuesday’s A-Main and never looking back.

“I was nervous starting on the outside of the front row,” Larson admitted on the RacinBoys.com live stream in victory lane. “I knew they did a lot of track work there and was worried that the bottom was going to be really really good the first couple laps and I was going to fall to third or fourth because I couldn’t get down.”

Despite his concerns, everything worked out in Larson’s favor after battling through traffic and avoiding a spin early in the race.

“Traffic was crazy scary,” Larson said. “When that guy spun out in front of us I thought it was another Chili Bowl where I was going to have some bad luck. So I was just thankful that didn’t happen and we were able to get the win.”

Now that he is locked in the show Larson is confident his Keith Kunz Motorsports crew will continue to improve his No. 01 machine throughout the week, giving him a piece he can drive to the front for his first Chili Bowl A-Main victory on Saturday evening.

“My car felt really good,” Larson continued. “I didn’t run too hard throughout that whole race. You don’t want to make any mistakes to cost yourself a top two. Locking in is very important. I was just happy to run a pretty clean race there and Keith will tweak on the cars and they’ll get even better. So I’m excited for Saturday.”

Zach Daum, who retained his automatic bid to start Saturday’s big show by finishing second, couldn’t get past how similar the race played out to Chili Bowls of years past.

“It seemed like typical here lately. The last couple years I’ve been high point guy and Kyle started second,” Daum said. “Last year we kind of got caught up with a lapped car there and I didn’t get to make the run for it there. But you know I think we were probably good enough to be set up for fifty-five laps there, instead of twenty-five.”

Tanner Thorson earned himself a provisional starting spot for Saturday’s big show by leading the Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions wire-to-wire. Driving the Clyde Lamar-owned No. 3C on a rail, Thorson led wire-to-wire ahead of the likes of Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Ryan Bernal, and JJ Yaley.

“This car has been badass from day one. Ever since we got a midget with Clyde Lamar, this thing has been awesome. My guys have worked their butts off to give me what I need,” Thorson said on the RacinBoys.com live stream in victory lane. “Clyde Lamar, probably is one of the most prestigious car owners out there that doesn’t get enough recognition for it. We’re all the way from California and this is his first time at the Chili Bowl with the car, and we pick up a race of champions win. That’s pretty badass.”

Racing will resume Wednesday with Hard Rock Casino Qualifying Night. Hot laps will begin at 4 p.m. CT, with Heat races at 5 p.m. CT.  Race fans can watch all of the action Wednesday night via a pay-per-view broadcast on RacinBoys.com.
