Roughly 24 hours after turning in his qualifying lap at Slinger Super Speedway (WI), Luke Fenhaus can now say he is fast qualifier for the 41st Annual Slinger Nationals. Meanwhile, a family feud will lead the field to green flag in the marquee event.
Heavy rain interrupted qualifying on Tuesday, flooding the speedway and postponing the event until Wednesday. Two drivers, Corey Heim and Ryan Farrell, were unable to log qualifying times before the rain came, but took time on Wednesday while the rest of the field stood on their qualifying times from Tuesday.
Fenhaus’ lap of 11.237 seconds around the lightning-quick quarter-mile stood as the fastest time of the modified qualifying session. Ryan Farrell briefly stood 14th in qualifying as the final driver to lock into the field, but he was then bumped off the bubble by Heim.
The top 14 qualifiers locked into Wednesday night’s 200-lap feature race, with the top 12 being inverted. With the invert, 12th place qualifier Alex Prunty will lead the field to green, with uncle Dennis Prunty joining him on the front row.
Those who did not qualify on time will compete in odd and even qualifiers, composing the inside and outside row of the starting grid for the feature, respectively. Several big names were unable to qualify their way into the top 14 and will be jockeying for position in those 15-lap races.
The odd race will include the likes of NASCAR Truck Series competitor Derek Kraus, four-time Slinger Nationals champion Rich Bickle and 2019 Winchester 400 winner Stephen Nasse. Truck Series champion Johnny Sauter and 2019 ARCA Midwest Tour runner-up Austin Nason will be among the drivers in the even race.
Full qualifying results can be seen below.
All cars will transfer into the Slinger Nationals main event, with no drivers going home. The feature for local Late Models will take place following the odd and even qualifiers, with the 200-lap Slinger Nationals to follow.
