Winner of 2019 Short Track Draft Fan Vote Announced

More than 2,200 race fans cast their votes on Speed51’s Five Star Race Car Bodies Facebook and PFC Brakes Twitter accounts for their pick in the 2019 Short Track Draft.  When the final results were determined, the outcome was decided by a scant nine votes, with Mini Stock and Modified racer Matt Kimball claiming the top spot in the fan vote.

Kimball earned the Mini Stock track championship and finished fifth in the Sportsman Modified championship standings at Monadnock Speedway as a 17-year-old last season.  Last month, Kimball finished second after an exciting battle with Emerson Cayer in the North East Mini Stock Tour’s feature event during the Commonwealth Classic at Richmond Raceway (VA).

Brooke Storer finished second in fan voting, just nine votes behind Kimball in the final tally.  A member of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Class of 2019, Storer was the Sportsman champion at Auburndale Speedway (FL) last season and finished third in the Wheel Man Racing Series points.

Jake Garcia rounded out the podium in fan voting.  Garcia is a rising star in the Pro Late Model ranks, with top-10 finishes in the Snowflake 100, Baby Rattler and SpeedFest Pro Late Model 125.

Joel Rayborne and Jett Noland finished fourth and fifth in fan voting, respectively.  Jo Jo Wilkinson finished sixth, with Molly Helmuth, Chase Dixon, Daniel Dye and Hailie Deegan rounding out the top ten.

While Kimball recorded the most votes on Facebook, it was Deegan earning the most votes during the 24-hour voting period on Twitter.

Results from the fan vote will serve as one vote towards determining the results of the 2019 Short Track Draft presented by PFC Brakes. That vote will be combined with ballots from 80 short track racing experts to determine the top 51 draft picks.

The number-one overall draft pick will be announced Thursday at 5 p.m. ET on Speed51.
