Hundreds of short track fans cast their votes on Speed51.com’s social media outlets for their pick in this year’s Short Track Draft presented by PFC Brakes. After the results were tallied, it was Pro Late Model driver Dawson Fletcher who claimed the top spot in the fan vote.

The up-and-coming Late Model driver is making a name for himself as he earned his first podium finish this past weekend at New Smyrna Speedway (FL) after a hard-fought battle with former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series star Mike Skinner.

Fletcher’s racing resume also consists of nine quarter-midget championships, back-to-back Little New Smyrna Speedway championships and three championships in a Legends Car.

Fletcher plans to compete in all Pro Late Model features at New Smyrna Speedway during the 2018 season, as well as venturing into the Super Late Model division.

Although he recorded the most votes in this year’s Short Track Draft fan vote, Fletcher had some tough competition he was up against.

Super Late Model and ARCA Racing Series driver Chandler Smith was a close runner-up to Fletcher.

Smith turned heads earlier this year by winning the Super Late Model (CRA) portion of SpeedFest and has since followed that up by winning ARCA Racing Series pole awards in both of his starts.  He will be in competition with the ARCA Racing Series, Southern Super Series, and select CARS Tour and CRA events throughout the 2018 season.

Rounding out the podium for the fan vote was New Hampshire native Derek Griffith, who collected a lot of support through social media and the Kulwicki Driver Development program. Griffith picked up his first win of the season earlier this year at Dillon Motor Speedway (SC) and followed that up with a victory at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (CT).

ARCA Racing Series driver Natalie Decker and Late Model rookie Corey Heim completed the top five in the voting.

Results of the fan vote will be combined with the ballots of nearly 70 short track racing experts to determine the top 51 draft picks in the 2018 Short Track Draft presented by PFC Brakes.

The number-one overall draft pick will be announced this Thursday at 5 p.m. ET on Speed51.com.
