Lakeland, FL — The weather was beautiful at Citrus County Speedway in Inverness, FL for Race 1 of the Brandon Ford Wheel Man Sportsman Series Presented by Gagels Auto Parts. 17 teams were on hand to take time during qualifying, and while the #157 of Jason Rendell turned the quickest lap, he was deemed illegal during post qualifying tech for ride height, turning over the QA1 Fast Qualifier Award to the #4 Team of Travis Roland.
The invert put the #88 car of Craig Cuzzone on the pole, but due to battery issues he finished 16th and was awarded the Five Star Bodies Hard Luck Award for his effort. Rendell was relegated to starting last, but his determination was rewarded with a 6th place finish and the Driven Steering Hard Charger Award. Edward Allen, Steve Barnes, Andy Nichols and Shawn Jenkins rounded out the top 10.
Clermont, FL driver Jason Vail maneuvered his Vail Services #407 through the caution free race for a solid 5th place finish, while Brooke Storer powered her #9 Storer Motorsports Chevrolet past a solid field of cars to finish 4th.
Jesse Henley had a strong piece and got faster as the race went on, but racing was tight and the Henley Grading #3 from Homosassa, FL merely ran out of time and settled for a very respectable 3rd place finish.
While Travis Roland was the Official QA1 Fast Qualifier, the invert pushed the Dave Colpritt owned #4 Service-On-Site team back to 10th for the start of the race. The Winter Haven, FL driver used the outside line to march his way up to a strong 2nd place run.
Aaron Williamson and the CFA Racing Team have already had an incredible start to the 2017 racing season, and they kept the momentum rolling for the 50 Lap Feature event. Williamson started 7th, but with surgical precision, sliced his way past the competition, taking the lead on lap 12 and was never challenged after that. Williamson was elated in Victory Lane to get his 1st Brandon Ford Wheel Man Sportsman Series victory and the trophy that is coveted by every Sportsman driver in the state.
The next event for the Brandon Ford Wheel Man Sportsman Series Presented by Gagels Auto Parts is this Saturday at Showtime Speedway in Clearwater, FL. Pre-registration is underway and is required to be eligible for the majority of the contingency awards, so drivers and teams are strongly urged to call Racecar Engineering at 800-882-7231 between 9am and 6pm to do so.
