Sunny skies and temperatures in the 70’s welcomed teams to Madison International Speedway in Oregon, Wisconsin for practice for the ARCA Midwest Tour’s seventh annual Joe Shear Classic.


After four hours of practice, it was multi-time track champion Bobby Wilberg at the top of the leaderboard posting the fastest lap of the day with a time of 17.859 seconds.


Former ARCA Midwest Tour Rookie of the Year Nick Murgic posted second fastest time with a 17.900 and Chris Weinkauf was third quick with a time of 17.919.


Claire Decker was fourth quick with a time of 17.935 and defending ARCA Midwest Tour champion Ty Majeski was fifth quick with a time of 17.945.


ARCA Midwest Tour officials noted that 34 cars were on the grounds today with some not running a transponder for the practice session. One of those was NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Johnny Sauter, who is looking for a victory at Madison.


Sauter will be racing with his brother Tim Sauter and his nephew Travis Sauter. Both were 10th and 12th and on chart respectively.


Notes from Saturday…


Jonathan Eilen and Griffin McGrath had a collision at the pit entrance. Eilen suffered right side cosmetic damage while McGrath had front-end damage. Both will be ready to go tomorrow. Eilen was able to get some laps in the final session today.


Cardell Potter was experiencing power steering issues causing him limited practice time today. The team is hoping to have it fixed for the race on Sunday.


Paul Schaffer Jr. has Freddie Query in his pit this weekend. Query confirmed to that he is no longer working with Harrison Burton.


Nathan Haseleu will make his 97th start in Sunday’s Joe Shear Classic. He is the only driver to compete in all of the events since the series started in 2007. will power Midwest Tour Live coverage starting at 10:30am CT on Sunday afternoon.


Spectator gates and practice starts at 11:30am. Qualifying is scheduled for 12:45pm with racing at 2pm.
