As the temperatures begin to warm up across the country, the racing schedule is getting just as hot on short tracks everywhere. As the calendar flips from April to May over the course of the weekend, there are plenty of big races in all four corners of the country. FRIDAY, APRIL 29
Kalamazoo (MI) – Tyler Roahrig battled with Doug True before prevailing in Friday’s Intimidator 100 Outlaw Late Model season opener at Michigan’s Kalamazoo Speedway. Click here to see how it happened in Speed51.com’s Speed Central.
Lucas Oil ASCS (MO) – Rain has called off Friday’s ASCS Sprint Car action at Callaway Raceway in Missouri.
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (IL) – Scott Bloomquist took the lead on the 42nd lap of the Budweiser 50 on Friday Night at Tri-City Speedway, and then went on to win the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event. Bloomquist and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader, Jonathan Davenport, went toe-to-toe for several laps until Bloomquist pulled away at the end. (click here for story)
World of Outlaws Sprint Cars (OK) – Heavy and persistent rain has forced the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series to postpone the series event at Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway scheduled for today. The event will be rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22. All advance ticket purchasers for Salina will be able to use their tickets for the makeup event.
Big Diamond (PA) – Those pesky April showers that bring May flowers found northeastern Pennsylvania on Friday and along with an unfavorable weather forecast, Big Diamond Speedway promoter Jake Smulley has cancelled tonight’s racing card.
Ace Speedway (NC) – Late Model Stock Cars will run a weekly event at North Carolina’s Ace Speedway.
Anderson Motor Speedway (SC) – David Roberts swept both ends of the twin 40-lap Late Model Stock features Friday night at Anderson.
ARCA Racing Series (AL) – As the skies darkened at Talladega Superspeedway, a late-race crash brought out the caution flag. ARCA officials deemed it too dark to race and called the race at that time. When the yellow lights came on, Gus Dean was just inches ahead of Josh Williams and after video review he was credited with his first career ARCA victory.
Bowman Gray Stadium (NC) – Ten-time track champion Tim Brown turned the fastest lap ever turned at “The Madhouse” during qualifying for the season-opening NASCAR Whelen All-American Series 200-lap Modified race Saturday night. (click here for story)
Kingsport Speedway (TN) – For the first time in 2016, Zeke Shell went to victory lane in the 60-lap NWAAS Late Model feature at Kingsport. (click here for story)
Southside Speedway (VA) – The coastal Virginia track will run a weekly feature for the Late Model Stock division on Friday night.
Southern Super Series (FL) – Defending Five Flags Speedway (FL) Blizzard Series champion Casey Roderick picked up the first win of the season at the “Home of the Snowball Derby” in a 125-lap combination event with the Southern Super Series Super Late Models. World of Outlaws Late Model Series (NC) – Josh Richards battled from an eighth-place starting positions and perservered through tough track conditions to win the inaugural World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series win at Carolina Speedway. (click here for story)
USMTS (TX) – This weekend’s trio of USMTS events in the the “Lone Star State” have been canceled due to a poor weather forecast.
SATURDAY, APRIL 30
Anderson Speedway (IN) – Speedway officials have canceled the racing program scheduled for Saturday, April 30 due to the forecast of rain most of the day.
Berlin Raceway (MI) – Rain has forced the cancellation of Saturday night’s program. All features will be made up on Saturday, May 7.
Columbus Motor Speedway (OH) – With wet conditions over-sweeping the area and with more wet and cold weather expected throughout the day, officials at Columbus Motor Speedway have cancelled Saturday’s racing program
Flat Rock Speedway (MI) – The Flat Rock Speedway season opener has been cancelled due to forecasted weather. For information on the reschedule date, go to FlatRockSpeedway.com.
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (IL) – Macon Speedway officials along with those from the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series have decided to pull the plug on the April 30 running of the St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100, due to overnight rains and the abysmal forecast for the 1/5-mile facility. Officials had hoped to see a change in Saturday’s forecast but various weather models stayed consistent with a near 100% chance for a major portion of the day. The 3rd Annual St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 will now take place on Tuesday, July 26th. The event will feature an action-packed program that includes: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 100-lap, $12,000-to-win main event.
Midvale Speedway (OH) – The Ohio racetrack has canceled its racing card for Saturday night due to a miserable weather forecast.
Sandusky Speedway (OH) – Officials have decided to cancel tonight’s racing due to the impending weather. Looking at the weather forecast it looks as though it is certain to start raining around 5 or 6pm and rain throughout the evening into Sunday. As you know we would attempt to race, but with the forecast of rain and temps in the 40’s & 50’s it is in the best interest of our car owners, drivers, crews, staff and fans to cancel.
South Bend Motor Speedway (IN) – As you know the derby and night of destruction’s have always been a rain or shine event. We have been watching the radar and temperatures all morning. Wind chill in the upper 30s and heavy rain all day. We want to do right by our fans and drivers. The last thing we want is to see a family sit in the heavy rain and cold or just not come back. With this being said we will move today’s events will now be ran Sunday, May 1st at 3 pm.
USAC Silver Crown Series (OH) – USAC’s 50th appearance in Toledo, Ohio will wait for another day after impending rain and cold weather has forced cancellation of Saturday night’s Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness “Rollie Beale Classic” USAC Silver Crown race at Toledo Speedway. Rain is expected to start in the late-afternoon, reaching a 90% chance by evening so the race organizers and USAC agreed to cancel the program for Saturday, although discussion continues regarding a possible rescheduling.
World of Outlaws Sprint Cars (MO) – Rain and heavily saturated grounds at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 have forced the cancellation of the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series event scheduled for today.
Bridgeport Speedway (NJ) – Defending track champion Jamie Mills picked up the season-opening victory in the Dirt Modified division at New Jersey’s Bridgeport Speedway.
Canandaigua Motorsports Park (NY) – Two-time Sportsman division track champion, Dan Weisner won his first-ever Dirt Modified event at his home track of Canandaigua Motorsports Parks Saturday night during their season-opener.
DIRTcar Sportsman Series (NY) – Ronnie Davis III won the season kickoff Saturday for the DIRTcar Sportsman Series at New York’s Fulton Speedway.
Grandview Speedway (PA) – Duane Howard survived numerous skirmishes to become the first repeat winner in the NASCAR 358 Modified Whelen All-American Series division after capturing the checkers in Saturday’s 30-lap feature.
Lebanon Valley Speedway (NY) – Andy Bachetti kicked off the DIRTcar season with a Dirt Modified victory Saturday at Lebanon Valley Speedway. It is the 15th consecutive year that the Sheffield, Mass. racer has won a Big Block feature at Lebanon Valley.
Merrillville Speedway (ONT) – Gary Lindberg, a rookie, is the season-opening winner in the 358 Modified division in 2016 at Canada’s Merrittville Speedway.
Northeast Mini Stock Tour (CT) – Nick Maniatis won the 12-lap North East Mini Stock Tour race on the road course of Thompson for the second year-in-a-row
Orange County Speedway (NY) – Tommy Meier beat Jimmy Horton in the Dirt Modified division Saturday at Orange County Speedway.
PASS North (ME) – It was a thrilling battle right to the end at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Maine, but at the end of 125-laps of Super Late Model racing former series champion DJ Shaw was the victor. (click here for story) (click here for Speed Central)
Super DIRTcar Series (NY) – Billy Decker won the season opening event for the SUPER DIRTcar Series (Big-Block Modifieds) at New York’s Fulton Speedway. (click here for story)
Thunder Mountain Speedway (NY) – Anthony Perrego added his name to the Thunder Mountain Speedway win list in convincing fashion. Perrego, an invader, drove to a $1,992 payday in Saturday night’s official Season Opener at the three-eighths-mile clay oval. Perrego bested a stout field in the 30-lap big-block/small-block Modified event.
Valenti Modified Racing Series (NH) – Chris Pasteryak beat a great field of ground-pounders for the Modified Racing Series as they kicked off their season at New Hampshire’s challenging bullring of Monadnock Speedway.
Bowman Gray Stadium (NC) – Nearing 40 laps into 2016 lid-lifter season at the Madhouse and Mother Nature washed out the remainder of the Hayes Jewelers 200 for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modifieds. Tim Brown led Burt Myers at that time. The conclusion of the event will be played out next Saturday. Michael Adams won the 40-lap Sportsman race; that event was the only one completed when the rain began to fall.
Carteret County Speedway (NC) – Chris Burns beat Joshua Yeoman for the Late Model Stock Car win at North Carolina’s newest short track, Carteret County Speedway .
Dominion Raceway (VA) – Nick Smith picked up the second Late Model Stock car victory in the history of Dominion Raceway in Virginia. Inaugural event winner Tyler Hughes was second.
Florence Motor Speedway (SC) – The South Carolina short track will run a weekly race for the Late Model Stocks on Saturday.
Greenville Pickens Speedway (SC) – Mother Nature washed out the entire racing program at Greenville Pickens Speedway in South Carolina. The Twin-75’s for the Late Model Stock Cars will be rescheduled for a later date.
Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) – Due to early morning rain and worsening conditions throughout the evening all events at Hickory Motor Speedway have been cancelled for Saturday, April 30, 2016.
Newport Speedway (TN) – Newport Speedway‘s opening race for its new dirt track has been postponed due to the repairs to the grandstands and lighting remaining incomplete along with a growing threat of inclement weather. Rescheduling will be announced shortly.
NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series (AL) – Michael Page of Douglasville, GA earned $2,500 for 13 minutes of work Saturday night by going wire-to-wire in the 50-lap caution-free NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series main event at Talladega Short Track to record his first career victory.
New Smyrna Speedway (FL) – Patrick Thomas won the 50-lap Sportsman main event Saturday at New Smyrna Speedway and Jerry Symons won the FL Mod feature.
Shenendoah Speedway (VA) – Rain washed out Saturday’s racing program at Shenendoah Speedway just as the racing began. Spectators tonight can use their ticket stubs from tonight for free admission to the next event on May 14.
Show Me the Money Series (AL) – Justin South and Casey Roderick split the Twins for the Pro Late Model Series at Alabama’s Montgomery Motor Speedway. South won the initial 50-lap race and Roderick moved by Bret Holmes with a couple laps to go in the night-cap 30-lap feature (cut short due to the late nature of the event).
South Boston Speedway (VA) – The 75-lap Late Model Stock Car event was a heated contest, with Peyton Sellers dueling with Matt Bowling. In the end it was Bowling taking another victory at the southern Virginia racetrack.
Southern All Stars (AL) – The Southern All Stars Late Models will race across the street from Talladega Superspeedway at the Talladega Short Track on Saturday night.
Southern National Motorsports Park (NC) – The high-banked North Carolina short track will run a weekly race for the Late Model Stock division.
Sunoco Challenge Series (FL) – Race number-5 for this new series and a new winner has been recorded. Jeff Scofield beat Joe Boyd for the victory at Auburdale Speedway in Florida. (click here for Trackside Now coverage)
World of Outlaws Late Model Series (NC) – In only his seventh dirt late model start ever, Willie Milliken won $10,000 as the winner of the Tar Heel 100 at his home track of Fayetteville Motor Speedway. It was his first career dirt late model win.
Lucas Oil Modifieds (CA) – Race number-3 of the Lucas Oil Modified Series season was hosted by Irwindale Speedway Saturday night and Travis Thirkettle held off Ryan Partridge for the victory. (click here for Trackside Now coverage)
Northwest SLM Series (WA) – The Northwest Super Late Model Series did battle Saturday at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval and Shelby Thompson was head and shoulders better than the field. He beat Garrett Evans by nearly a straightaway. (click here for Trackside Now coverage)
SRL Southwest Tour (CA) – Ryan Cansdale beat Derek Thorn and defending SRL Southwest Tour champion Jacob Gomes in the the Super Late Model portion of Irwindale Speedway’s Saturday night doubleheader. (click here for Trackside Now coverage)
SUNDAY, MAY 1
ARCA Midwest Tour (WI) – Ty Majeski started 10th and took over the lead from Dennis Prunty on lap 32 to win the 8th Annual Joe Shear Classic. Johnny Sauter, who started in the last row, came through to finish second.
JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour & Top Speed Modifieds (MI) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance event scheduled for this weekend at Springport Motor Speedway has been canceled. After the forecast for Saturday and Sunday changed drastically overnight, officials feel it is best to go ahead and cancel the event with rain now forecast for Sunday with wind chill’s in the 40’s and heavy rain forecasted for overnight Saturday night. The event will not be rescheduled. The next JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event will be on May 14th at Lebanon I-44 Speedway.
ACT (VT) – The dismal forecast for Sunday May 1 has forced Thunder Road Speedbowl to postpone the Merchants Bank 150. The race has been rescheduled for Sunday May 8, post time set for 2:00pm.
Oxford Plains Speedway (ME) – Shawn Martin took the lead from Tim Brackett on lap 25 and pulled away to with the rain-shortened Super Late Model feature Sunday afternoon. The race, which was originally scheduled to be 50 laps, was called when heavy rain started to fall on lap 30.
RoC Modified Tour (NY) – Chemung Speedrome and Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series Fueled by Sunoco management have postponed The Drome “75” scheduled for Sunday, May 1 due to inclement weather. The 75-lap race has been rescheduled for Friday, May 27 to kick off the Memorial Day Weekend.
Seekonk (MA) – Fred Astle, Jr. won the season opener for the Pro Stock division Sunday afternoon.
Wiscasset Speedway (ME) – Andrew McLaughlin bested a field of 22 Late Models during the season opener for Group 2 at Wiscasset.
