With hundreds of medals being handed out this month in Rio, we at Speed51.com have decided to hand out a few medals of our own to short track racers for their performances from this past weekend.  The judges on Speed51.com have considered all aspects of each racer’s weekend performance including the number of wins, the strength of the win and the way each racer won their race(s).

Without further ado, here are the Short Track Racing medalists from the weekend of August 12-14.

GOLD MEDAL: Jason Johnson (Sprint Cars)

For five straight years, the Knoxville Nationals had been Donny Schatz’s personal playground.  That streak ended on Saturday night when “The Ragin Cajun” Jason Johnson held off Schatz to win the prestigious Sprint Car race at Knoxville Raceway (IA).

The upset Johnson pulled off is equivalent to Michael Phelps getting beat in the 200m butterfly or the United States Men’s Basketball team being knocked out in the medal round.

For his performance in holding off one of the best there’s ever been at Knoxville, Jason Johnson is awarded this week’s gold medal.

SILVER MEDAL: Keith Rocco (Mods & Late Models)

Three wins.  Two divisions.  One night.  That was the story for Keith Rocco on Saturday night at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl (CT).  “Kid Roc” picked up a pair of Late Model feature wins and carried the checkered flag at the end of the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature.  In addition to his three wins at Connecticut’s shoreline oval, Rocco scored another NWAAS Division I win Wednesday night in a 30-lap Sunoco Modified race.

For his four wins during the week, Keith Rocco is awarded this week’s silver medal.

BRONZE MEDAL: Ty Majeski (Super Late Models)

Ty Majeski continued to add to his wins total this past weekend, picking up his 18th and 19th win of the 2016 season.  Majeski kicked off his week by winning the Blue Race at Wisconsin International Raceway and followed it up by winning his fifth ARCA Midwest Tour race of the year at Marshfield Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

To put icing on the cake, Majeski went head-to-head with fellow Midwest Late Model star Dalton Zehr and defeated him in a one-on-one match race at Marshfield.

For his three wins over the weekend, Ty Majeski has been awarded this week’s bronze medal.
