FAYETTEVILLE, TN-The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series opened up the 2015 season a week later than it was supposed at the East Alabama Motor Speedway with the 18th Annual Bama Bash and former series champion Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN., scored his 27th career series win.
In White Performance Qualifying on Saturday night another former series champion Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC., set fast time with a lap of 15.227 seconds with Weaver second fast, 2015 Cruise with the Champions/Dirt on Dirt Rookie of the Year contender Dillon Tidmore of Glencoe, AL., third, long time East Alabama Motor Speedway and part time series competitor Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL., fourth quick and 2014 Southern All Star Rookie of the Year Chris Wilson was fifth quick.
In PPM Racing Products heat race action Madden scored the win over Nowell and Dana Eiland, heat race two saw Weaver take the win with Wilson second and Will Herrington third and two time Southern All Star champion Riley Hickman scored the third heat win over Brian Reese and Todd Morrow.
In Sunday afternoon feature action Weaver took the lead as he and Madden headed into turn one and then Weaver pulled ahead of Madden down the backstretch and then took control of the 50 lap event as he worked his way through lapped traffic early in the race to build his lead over Madden. The first of two cautions appeared when Ryan Law stopped on the track on lap 20. This brought the field back together for a double file restart with Weaver at the point but the race was from second on back as Madden and Hickman were battling for second along with Todd Morrow who moved from his 9th starting spot into the top five when the second caution appeared as Lavon Sparks slowed in turn four ending his day.
Weaver had to hold on for one more restart and Hickman used the restart to get momentum and get around Madden to take over second and make a strong run at Weaver late in the race but just ran out of laps and came home in the second spot. Morrow moved around Madden late in the race to take claim the third spot, Madden finished fourth and Terrance Nowell finished fifth.
Finishing in the sixth spot was Chris Wilson, seventh to Brian Reese, eight place went to Dillon Tidmore who started 18th to bring home a top ten finish, ninth went to Joey Armistead from his 16th starting spot and tenth place went to Ricky Culpepper from his 12th starting spot.
