ULTIMATE Supers Headed to Cherokee This Weekend

The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series was unable to resume its 2020 season on Sunday, as heavy rain postponed its planned event at 311 Motor Speedway (NC).  The series will once again try to get back on track this Saturday, with its return to Cherokee Speedway (SC).

The ULTIMATE Supers will visit Cherokee on Saturday, May 30.  It is the next step for the series as it works with tracks to piece together an updated 2020 schedule after being shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic following its March 13 season opener at North Georgia Speedway.

“We are glad to be able to get started on making up some of these races that have been postponed,” said ULTIMATE General Manager Kelley Carlton.  “We all need a little bit of normalcy in our lives right now and being able to get back to racing has sure helped with that. I appreciate Scott [Childress] and Tony [Adair] for making us one of their priorities for rescheduling.”

The event, originally scheduled for May 2, marks the series’ first trip to “The Place Your Momma Warned You About” in nine years.

“Cherokee is one of the best-known tracks in the southeast and it was very important to us to have events there this year,” Carlton said. “This will be the first time there for ULTIMATE since our inaugural season in 2011.”

The series hopes to have many more schedule updates in the coming weeks, as they work with tracks to make events a reality and complete as much of the planned 2020 season as possible.

“We hope to have a few more schedule announcements soon as we begin to find dates for events in areas which are opening up. We appreciate everyone’s patience and continued support of the ULTIMATE brand as we try to get back going again.”

Donald McIntosh won the series’ season opener at North Georgia Speedway in March. Defending ULTIMATE champion Zack Mitchell finished second in that event, and had set quick time in qualifying Sunday at 311 Motor Speedway before rains washed that race away.

The 311 Motor Speedway race has been rescheduled for June 20.
