ULTIMATE Northeast Rookie Scores First Series Win

The ULTIMATE Northeast Super Late Model tour returned on Sunday to Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex for the track’s annual Ernie Jones Memorial.  Despite challenges from several strong contenders, it was Dan Angelicchio snagging his first win at the Pennsylvania dirt track.

Angelicchio dominated the 30 lap feature en route to his first ULTIMATE Northeast victory by taking the lead early from Jared Miley before holding off a challenge from Michael Lake.

Prior to the event, Angelicchio had told Speed51 that it has been hard for his team to get track time year. For the Rookie of the Year contender, the win lightened the load hanging over him and his team.

“We’ve struggled this year, so [it feels good] to kinda get the monkey off our back.  We worked really hard on the car this week.  Just going through it, found a few things.  Man, it paid off.  I’ve been so close so many times in a Super Late up here.  To finally get over the hump at a big race is awesome.”

Miley, who finished in second place for Sunday’s Ernie Jones Memorial was impressed with Dan Angelicchio’s performance.

“I think overall he was just the better car tonight.  We got close to him when he jumped the cushion in turns three and four, but he drove off after that.”

Ryan Montgomery was left playing the “what could have been game” after a late-caution strategy decision.

“I thought I had something for Angelicchio there on a restart.  We had another restart, and my Dad told me to go to the top, but I guess I misinterpreted and went to the bottom lane for the restart.

The ULTIMATE Northeast season was scheduled to head for Hagerstown Speedway on July 11, but a recent decision has closed that track temporarily.  The next scheduled event is at Greater Cumberland Raceway on July 25.
