ULTIMATE Gets Back on Track at Sumter Saturday

After a pair of off weekends, the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series returns to action Saturday at South Carolina’s Sumter Speedway.

The third time will hopefully be the charm for the Sumter event, which has been postponed twice already in 2021 due to sometimes-uncooperative Mother Nature.  The event marks ULTIMATE’s first trip to the venue in series history.

After a string of three consecutive wins for Brandon Overton, the series has seen three different winners in its last three races.  Ross Bailes scored the victory at Lavonia Speedway on July 2, with Georgia’s own Michael Page completing a Peach State doubleheader weekend with a win at Senoia Raceway on July 3.  One week later, it was Michael Brown taking the checkered flag at Lancaster Motor Speedway.

There is also a tight championship battle ongoing in the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series.  Series rookie Cla Knight currently leads the title chase, with a win of his own at Lancaster in May to his credit and two podium finishes in the last three races.  Jeff Smith sits 11 points behind Knight in second place, with Anthony Sanders in third just two points behind Smith.

Some big races are also on the horizon for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series following Saturday’s race at Sumter.  The $20,000-to-win USA 100 at Virginia Motor Speedway takes place on August 7. While it doesn’t count directly towards ULTIMATE Southeast points, the ULTIMATE Heart of America’s Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial is a bonus opportunity as well as a $20,059-to-win event at Richmond Raceway (KY) on August 20-21.  ULTIMATE Southeast will then close out the month at Friendship Motor Speedway on August 28.

Race fans unable to attend Saturday’s event at Sumter will be able to watch live on Speed51.TV as part of FK Rod Ends’ Summer Thunder Series.  Click here to learn more about how you can watch Saturday’s event.
