In January 2014, UARA-STARS series operators Kerry and Wink Bodenhamer suspended operations of the Late Model Stock Car series, citing putting a focus on ailing family members. At the time, the Bodenhamers said that they hoped for a “bigger and stronger return” in 2015.

Friday, however, the Bodenhamers, via a post to the UARA-STARS official series Facebook page, said that the series will not be returning and that they will be retiring.

“After a lot of thought and soul searching we have decided to retire and enjoy our family. We are still instrumental in the care of my mother and her well-being,” Kerry Bodenhamer said in the Facebook post. “With the announcement from the Cars Pro Cup to run the late models on tour, the void we leave will be filled. We have talked to Jack McNelly and wish him the very best in his endeavor.

“We take this time to thank each and every one of you for being a part of our extended family.”

Earlier this week, CARS Pro Cup announced they will be running a Late Model Stock and a Super Late Model series starting in 2015, where both divisions will race on the same day and at the same track.

The Bodenhamers ran the UARA series for the past 12 years and decided to forego their 2014 season earlier this year due to family issues.

“Shortly after the first of the year I lost my dad, Wink’s dad and numerous friends. It gives you a different outlook on life,” Bodenhamer said. “Racing has been in Wink and my life for over 43 years. We were very fortunate to make a living doing something we so enjoyed, however as life goes, nothing last forever.

“The UARA has been a big part of our lives for 12 years. We met a lot of great people and made a lot of good friends over that time.”

UARA began as a Late Model tour in 2002 with Danny O’Quinn, Jr. becoming its first champion. Noted short trackers Lee Tissot, Matt McCall, Brandon Ward, Jake Crum, Coleman Pressley, Brennan Poole, Travis Swaim all earned championships through the course of the series’ existence.   Dillon Bassett was the series’ final titlist in 2013.
