With a deep field of Outlaw Karts on property at North Carolina’s Millbridge Speedway, qualifying is of utmost importance for Wednesday’s QRC Speed51 Open presented by HMS Motorsport. On Tuesday night, Tyler Seavey showed everybody that he will be one of the drivers to beat in Wednesday’s 51-lap feature.
Seavey went out in the first of two qualifying groups and busted off a fast-lap of 10.096 seconds on his second of his two laps.
“It’s funny I was talking to Jesse before I went out and told him I was going to take it easy on the first lap and go for broke on my second lap,” Seavey said on the Speed51.com live stream. “I’m not sure what lap was faster but I have quick time overall.”
Seavey’s time bested the lap of 10.163 seconds set by NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Larson, which was the fastest lap of the second group in qualifying.
“It didn’t feel very good at all so I was actually surprised when they said I was quick-time for my set,” said Larson. “If I could just get my kart driving a little better then I’ll be really fast.”
Qualifying was the only scored action for the Open division on Tuesday night. The Open division will headline all of Wednesday’s action for the QRC Speed51 Open.
Wednesday’s racing action will kick off at 7 p.m. ET with heat races for the Open division. The Intermediate class will also be in action as they race for $1,000.
