Jared Miley enters the 2020 season as the two-time and defending ULTIMATE Northeast Super Late Model Series champion. His pursuit of a third series title begins Saturday, as the series heads to Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex (PA) for its season opener.
The ULTIMATE Northeast season was originally slated to kick off more than two months ago with an event on March 28 at Hagerstown Speedway (MD). Miley has been itching to begin his title defense ever since that planned March start, which was put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m excited. We were excited a couple of months ago, then everything put on hold,” Miley told Speed51. “We’ve got everything ready to go and we’ve raced a couple of times.”
One of those races Miley competed in waiting for the start of the ULTIMATE Northeast campaign came last week at Roaring Knob. Miley made the trip south to the Markleysburg, Pennsylvania facility for a weekly show, gaining valuable track time.
“I hadn’t raced there for five years,” explained Miley. “We decided we’re going to go up there and get some laps. The car was pretty good to start with. We won our heat race and ran second in the feature. We got an idea of what we need to do. We’re just getting ahead on preparing for it.”
Miley expects track conditions this Saturday will be similar to those he experienced last weekend.
“The track will be pretty similar. In years past when we went there more often, you knew what you were going to get as far as the race track goes. Last week, it was pretty good. It was a little choppy in one corner, but other than that it was pretty good. I think we will see similar conditions.”
In two full seasons of competition for the ULTIMATE Northeast Super Late Model Series, Miley has won two championships. It’s a perfect record he hopes to continue in 2020 by maintaining consistency. In 19 ULTIMATE Northeast appearances over the past two years, Miley has won four times, with 12 top-fives and 16 top-10 finishes.
“We try to go everywhere and race, be consistent. Usually, the guy who is most consistent wins the championship. That’s what our goal will be again this year, and we’ll see what happens.”
More importantly for Miley, he’s looking forward to being able to compete with more regularity and truly get his 2020 season undereway.
“Racing here and there every once in a while, it doesn’t work good for me. I need to be in the car all the time. I’m looking forward to getting to race every weekend.”
