Two Drivers Advance to Saturday’s Main Event on Speed51

The Speed51 Super Select Series powered by Rowdy Energy continues Saturday night at the virtual USA International Speedway for the Festival of Speed, featuring some of the best real-world short track racers in North America.

On Saturday afternoon, a pair of sim racers with real-life experience of their own punched their tickets into the race through an Open qualifier.

Canada’s Jake Watson won the 51-lap Open feature, earning one of two transfer spots into the 100-lap main event.  Alex McCollum, who races a Legends car in the real world while also competing in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series, claimed the second spot to advance to the Festival of Speed.

Watson was the class of the Open field, leading 38 of the race’s 54 completed laps, as a green-white-checkered finish extended the event beyond its scheduled 51-lap distance.

Watson and McCollum will now compete in Saturday evening’s Festival of Speed, the second race of the Speed51 Super Select Series presented by Rowdy Energy.  Originated as an avenue for these racers to compete while motorsports are at a standstill due to COVID-19, the series boasts real-world series champions Derek Griffith (PASS National, Granite State Pro Stock Series), Derek Kraus (ARCA Menards Series West), Travis Braden (ARCA/CRA Super Series), Greg Van Alst (ARCA/CRA Super Series), Brittney Zamora (Northwest Super Late Model Series) and Cayden Lapcevich (NASCAR Pinty’s Series).

The first look at the entry list for the race was released Friday, and it includes over 30 familiar names.  Those drivers have committed to competing in the entirety of the Speed51 Super Select Series presented by Rowdy Energy, with a points fund supported by Rowdy Energy and PFC Brakes.

Saturday’s Festival of Speed will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET, and the race will be streamed live for free on Speed51 and on Speed51’s Five Star Race Car Bodies Facebook Feed.

The Festival of Speed is the second of a 10-race series, which will continue on Saturday nights until real-life racing resumes.  A complete schedule for the Speed51 Super Select Series presented by Rowdy Energy, along with the rest of Speed51’s sim racing coverage, can be found by clicking here.
