PORTAGE, Wis. (November 8, 2014) – For the second straight season the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series will open with a Saturday afternoon show at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, Wis. TUNDRA’s fifth season begins on Saturday May 9.
Last season eventual TUNDRA Champion Dalton Zehr bested a field of 41 Super Late Models. The car count tied a series record set at the end of the 2013 season at Slinger Speedway.
WIR provided an interesting challenge for the TUNDRA Travelers to start the 2014 season. Many had either limited or no experience at the D-shaped half-mile prior to Round One. In addition, a strong field of local Super Late Model competitors was waiting.
TUNDRA drivers hung in with eight of the top ten spots taken by series travelers. Of those eight, four had experience racing weekly at WIR, including podium finishers Bobby Kendall and Tommy Gee. Top locals were Kyle Calmes and Jeff Van Oudenhoven. Eventual 2014 WIR Fox River Racing Club Champion Lowell Bennett qualified well but scratched before the feature when he discovered mechanical issues.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2014 than what we had at WIR,” said series representative Matt Panure. “The local competitors were very receptive to working with us and being a part of our program. Roger Van Daalwyk and his staff provided a huge support system. A return in 2015 was pretty much agreed upon before we even left last May.”
Additional divisions for the event and start times will be named at a later time. Fans can expect a full slate of action to dust off the winter blues in early May.
TUNDRA officials are working on a finalized 2015 schedule. They anticipate a full schedule release before the end of the month.

The Unified Northern Drivers Racing Association (TUNDRA) Super Late Model Series was formed in 2011 as the Alive For Five Super Late Model Series at Dells Raceway Park. TUNDRA’s business plan is based on a sustainable program for promoters and race teams alike, while still providing high-quality Super Late Model entertainment to fans.
