Millbridge Speedway is the new breeding ground for future NASCAR stars! In 2011 the Burnett’s took over Millbridge Speedway to convert it to a premier Outlaw Kart Track! The track has seen much needed improvements over the last 3 years including new lights, new walls, and a new configuration for 2013. The Mini Outlaw karts put on an amazing show with 2 and 3 wide racing throughout the field. Millbridge Speedway is only open on select Wednesday nights for racing. This enables people who travel or race at other venues on the weekends to race with us and has a good time during the week. Click here for more information.

Christopher after claiming his 9th Tour Type title back in 2011 (Speed51.com photo)
4:32
SPEEDWEEKS TIME CAPSULE: Throughout New Smyrna Speedweeks, Speed51 will take a look back at some of the history of this event with our partner site, 51’s Third Turn (thethirdturn.com). Some of short track racing’s best have been able to claim the title of World Series champions while others yet really broke into the national scene thanks to this event.

Ted Christopher of Plainville, CT was beginning to make a name for himself in the late 1990s as he began to become a dominant force at the Connecticut short tracks and the NASCAR Busch North Series. But his first major modified title came earlier, back in 1991, when he and twin brother Mike claimed the SK Modified World Series title. In 1998, right when Christopher was starting to become a household name in the modified ranks, he claimed his first Tour-Type Modified World Series title. Christopher didn’t stop there. He went on to record nine Tour-Type titles (98, 99, 00, 01, 03, 05, 09, 10, and 11). His 10 World Series titles and over 50 World Series victories in all divisions combined are believe to be event records. He has also won the most prestigious event of the World Series, the Richie Evans Memorial, five times.

Christopher has gone on to other things in his racing career since his first World Series crown. He won the 2001 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship and the 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour title. He won the inaugural NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event back in 2005 and has 48 combined victories between the North and South tours. Tack on victories in the SMART Modifieds, Valenti Modified Racing Series, NASCAR K & N Pro Series East, NEMA Midgets, TQ Midget wins in the Gamblers Classic and Coffee Cup and Christopher has cemented his place as one of the greatest New England short trackers of all time. You can view Christopher’s career history on 51’s Third Turn here:http://www.thethirdturn.com/wiki/Ted_Christopher

Last night was a wild night at New Smyrna Speedway as the track hosted its inaugural K&N Pro Series East event. Daniel Suarez and Cameron Hayley thrilled the crowd with a side-by-side battle to the stripe for the last five laps, with Suarez prevailing by a door at the stripe. It only got wilder in the accompanying Tour-Type Modified feature when a number of crashes took out half of the field. Emotions were high all the while Eric Goodale cruised to his first victory of this World Series.
