Your two champions (Speed51.com Photo)

10:57

CHECKERED – Benjamin fell behind off of Turn Two, made one last run in Turn Four but could not do it. It’s Cope by a tenth of a second.

Champions: Cope in Triple Crown, Moore in World Series SLM

10:56

LAP 99 – WHITE – Cope by a nose at the line. It’s going to be a barn-burner.

10:56

RESTART – Cope a little wide as he spins the tires, Benjamin is right alongside

10:55

Meanwhile, Moore (11th) leads Rogers (9th) by four points in the SLM points battle.

10:55

Nasse is pushed into the infield. Cope is more or less guaranteed the Triple Crown if he can hang on to a top-ten finish.

10:55

We will have two laps remaining when we get going again.

10:54

Nasse will need the hook.

10:54

CAUTION – LAP 98 – Nasse has stalled in Turn Two and his Triple Crown chances are practically over.

10:53

LAP 98 – POPISCLE STICKS – Nasse off the pace and will stop in Turn Two.

10:53

RESTART – Cope gets clear of Benjamin, leaving Benjamin to fend Pollard off for second.

10:53

Doubling up. It’s Cope choosing the outside for this critical restart.

10:52

Three races at New Smyrna over the winter make up the Triple Crown – The Red Eye 100, the Pete Orr, and the World Series SLM finale. The best over these three big winter shows earns a cool $5,000.

10:41

10:41

LAP 67 – Door to door for the lead nowa as Benjamin has suddenly gotten a great launch to challenge.

10:41

LAP 66 – Pollard has taken fourth from Griffin.

10:40

RESTART – No surprise as Cope is gone. Nasse pulls alongside Benjamin for second.

Florida Triple Crown:

LAP 44 – Cope leads Benjamin, Griffin, Nasse, and Kwasniewski. Stephen Wallace, Pollard, Good, Ruston, and Moore are your next ten.

Spencer Davis just informed us his rear end was not the cause of his night’s premature end. Instead, he cut a left rear end and the resulting bottoming out broke the driveshaft in half.

10:12

LAP 41 – Moore holds off Moore for now. Elliott stalks both.

10 Ruston

10:10

We’ve seen a report on Twitter that 2nd place man Benjamin does not have a clutch working right now, so this restart will be difficult. We’ll send a  51 crew member down in his pits to confirm.

10:09

Looks like Steve Weaver parked at the time of the caution. Also Larry Gelinas pits before pit road is open, so maybe one of those two triggered the yellow.

10:08

CAUTION – LAP 35 – Looking for a reason and honestly we don’t honestly see trouble on the track. Will see if we can get an official reason for the caution.

Davis brought in on the hook.

10:05

For American stock car racing fans, the Daytona 500 is the biggest event on their calendar. As the Great American Race is upon us, one event many Midwest short track racers considered “their 2012 Daytona 500” was held at the Milwaukee Mile last June. Over 12,000 spectators turned out on a warm Tuesday night to witness third-generation Wisconsin racer Travis Sauter beat several NASCAR stars – in a field of 71 super late model racers – to score a popular victory in the 150-lap Midwest Tour super late model race at the historic Milwaukee Mile.

This summer, the highly-anticipated event returns to the Milwaukee Mile with the ARCA Midwest Tour and moves to the second Monday and Tuesday in July. Event organizers, building on the success of last year, are adding a Monday night concert featuring the heritage Southern rock band 38 Special.

Tickets for the July 8-9, 2013 “ARCA Fest” go on sale Friday, February 22nd at 10:00 a.m. Central Time online at www.ARCAfest.com.

Even though May had taken the lead at the time of caution, he will have to restart 2nd because they did not complete a lap. “Old School” is the approach the Southern Super Series is taking in their debut season of 2013. The 16-race slate brings together five racetracks in four different states and will include such legendary races as the World Crown 300 and the All American 400. Alabama’s Mobile International Speedway and Montgomery Motor Speedway, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway, Georgia’s Gresham Motorsports Park and Tennessee’s Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville make up the facilities that some of the best Super Late Model racers will compete on with the series this coming year.

The inaugural season’s opener comes on Saturday, April 6th at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville. For more details on this event visit www.southernsuperseries.com and http://www.fairgroundsspeedwaynashville.com/

1:17

Comment From HossCrew

we’ll be on the track in time to race… no worries

1:15

Dylan Kopec had eight wins in SK Light Modified competition at Connecticut’s Stafford Motor Speedway in 2012. This World Series, he has essentially start and parked a second Hillbilly Racing entry in each feature, but he has been getting valuable seat time in practice and qualifying as he prepares to compete in the Valenti Modified Racing Series in 2013. Dylan’s dad Chris, a former winner on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, has been assisting David Hill as a head wrench on the Hillbilly Racing cars this week.

1:15

Championship Scenarios:

Pro Late Models:
Brandon Johnson will clinch the championship with a 22nd place finish.
Spencer Davis will win the championship by either winning and finishing 22 spots ahead of Johnson OR finishing 23 spots ahead of Johnson in the race.

Super Late Models:
Ryan Moore will clinch the championship with a 2nd place finish

Spencer Davis will win the championship by winning and Moore finishing 3rd or worse OR finishing 4 spots ahead of Moore and no worse than one position behind David Rogers.

David Rogers will win the championship with a win and Moore finishing 6th or worse and Davis finishing 3rd or worse OR by finishing 6 spots ahead of Moore and 3 spots ahead of Davis.

Rogers holds the tiebreaker over Moore and Davis (1 win to 0) if we come down to a tie.

Pro-Trucks
Michael Burns wins the championship with a victory tonight OR finishing higher than Scotty Reeves and finishing no worse than one position behind Murphy.
Scotty Reeves wins the championship with a victory tonight OR finishing higher than Michael Burns and finishing no worse than one position behind Murphy.
Jessica Murphy wins the championship with a victory tonight OR finishing two positions ahead of both Burns and Reeves

Tour-Type Modifieds
Woody Pitkat should clinch the championship by starting tonight.

1:11

Andy Seuss, Al Emmarino and Kopec are all on track with just a few minutes left in first Modified practice.

1:11

It appears that last night’s Modified Richie Evans Memorial winner Ron Silk’s TS Haulers team has elected to leave New Smyrna Speedway and won’t be racing tonight. Burt and Jason Myers, who have competed in two features during this World Series, have begun a trek back to North Carolina and their World Series is over. Danny Watts, who crashed his Modified hard last night, has unloaded and repairs are ongoing with that ride. Chuck Hossfeld’s trailer is still on the premises, but no activity is going on in their pit area and the trailer hasn’t even been opened yet today.

That’s just so that officials on pit road and in race control can distinguish Pro and Super Late Models. It’s an inspection sticker given in tech. It keeps Pros from going out with Supers and vice versa.
