We do not have the complete rundown, but the confusion might be due to the disqualification of Todd Allen as the officials initially thought he shoved an EMT down on the ground a few days ago, but the EMT said he fell on his own during the incident, so the officials gave him the spot back, points, etc.

Wanted to thank Speed51 for the coverage this week and tonight, for someone out of work who could not afford to travel to Speedweeks, this is very much appreciated. I grew up watching Richie Evans and was a personal friend of Pete Orr and I planned to come tonight, but woke up with a high fever and sick and could not be there tonight. I wish all the drivers tonight the best of luck and again thanks Speed51.

To put a period on the “broken durometer” rumor flying around that we addressed earlier, we spoke to both Jeff Choquette and Tim Russell over the last hour or so.  Choquette said he doesn’t know anything about it and Russell said the same thing.  Russell said that if that was the case, he would like to know about it.Of note, we have not received an email at all from the individual who kept writing in about the issue to provide us his name and contact information so we can verify the story he is claiming.  So, we are going to move on from this topic and get down to business for tonight’s racing action.
6:56
We are back from eating some great food at Pub 44, and we are getting ready for some racing action.
5:27
We are heading to dinner at Pub 44 before the action starts tonight. We will be back soon.

5:26
Our good friend Denise Dupont from The Chrome Horn has reported that Ronnie Silk’s Tour-Type Modified does not have the much-talked-about NASCAR spec motor in it tonight and has been replaced by a Hutter engine.  Team owner Ed Partridge said that they have been pleased with the results of the spec engine so far this week, though.
5:26
Comment From Guest

I know of a few Northern teams that are thinking about coming to Speedweeks next season just because of Ricky Brooks and the decline of the Florida Mafia. These guys aren’t going to tow that far and spend a ton of money knowing that the Florida boys have cheated up motors and soft tires. Good job Mr. Brooks!

5:25
Kevin Henry has set fast time in the Pro Truck qualifying.
5:22
We have spoken to multiple drivers on this situation.  We also just spoke to Butch, the race director.  According to all involved, there was not a broken durometer.  In fact, we were told a new durometer was cut out of the package earlier in the week when this was an issue in front of everyone and the tire checked punched the same numbers. It has been brought to our attention photos were out there showing different durometer numbers than what tech has claimed, but we have no way of verifying when or where these photos were taken or even if they were with the race tires used.If you have additional information in regards to this, please send an email to [email protected] and [email protected] with your complete name and phone number and what you know so we can contact you directly.
5:19
Comment From Mr. Racing 101

i kniow its cold down there but you truely needto get and talk to the drivers in volved, there is photos that prove Mr. Ricky Brooks clearly has another agenda, and that is the smear the names of good drivers and that is the reason why the Central FL. racing will suffer and also next years speedweeks will also have less cars that this year racing. So agian has Mr Brooks helped the racing I think NOT!!!!!. and by the way where are all the cars from the pensacola area I thought he was bringing all of them down to NSS

5:15
Comment From Jay

Actually many of us local racers feel that Ricky has done a great job of fixing our local tracks tech issues, and wish he would stay here.

5:15
It was stated during the week by Kim Brown here at NSS that the track has now decided to make a rule effective after the World Series of Stock Car Auto Racing that tire soak will be illegal for all divisions at the track.  Many feel this is the right direction to eliminate the controversy.
5:13
Comment From racer82

i think rickey brooks is great for our sport i race at five flags and mobile nss would get more cars this week if they would get their heads out of their butts and make the rule no soaks no other place we race soaks so they need to get on the same page keep cost down!!!!!!!!!!!!

5:13
Comment From Guest

how many times are we gonna throw cars out for tires

5:12
We have no information to provide on the “broken durometer” that is being stated.  Speed 51 has no agenda here other than reporting ACCURATE information we are provided with or acquire.  If we hear anything on this, we will report it, but we will NOT report something that is not true or we do not have confirmation on.
5:10
Comment From Mr. Racing 101

it is truely sad that a tech man has the abilty to mess with people rep and speed51 hasnt made a statement about ricky brooks broken durometer that could help the drivers involved. There are alot of teams that are making a living racing and alot of familes depend on the winnings that come these events. Has ricky brooks helped the racing here nss I THINK NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he has put the egg on the NSS tech teams who dont like to have certtain teams abilty to run well and win. This is the reason racing in Central FL is on the way out.

5:05
The Pro Trucks will be qualifying next.

4:44
Alex Haase now has fast time.

Lonnie Sommerville is now the fast time on the board as we are hearing some qualifying DQs already.

4:41
Rebecca Kasten is now the new driver on top of the SLM charts during qualifying.  There are about 10 cars to go.
4:40
Qualifying should be interesting as Jeff Choquette goes out last.
4:35
Brian Finney now has the fast time, one car after David Rogers took time.
4:34
David Rogers currently leads the Super Late Model field in qualifying, but it is early on.
4:23
Next up is the Super Late Model qualifying.
4:23
We will have the full results from qualifying soon.

Ronnie Silk has set fast time for tonight’s Richie Evans Memorial Modified race.

4:14
Ronnie Silk currently is the fastest Mod in qualifying with a few more cars to go.
3:56
Qualifying has begun for the Modifieds.
3:51
We are awaiting qualifying.  Cars are getting lined up now.
3:44
We are hearing that even though the SK Mods are done for points, there are four SK Mods here that can race with the Tour guys in their race.
3:10
Neither one was disqualified Thursday night.

Comment From Guest

Has anyone said what Choquette and Russell were disqualified for again on Thursday night?

3:02
2:53
Qualifying is scheduled to start around 3:45pm.
2:53
The track is now silent as practice has completed for the day.
2:38
The Pro Trucks are on the track for a practice, but a few of them must think this is a race.  They were about three wide in turns three and four, which caused two trucks to do a few lazy spins.
2:36
Essentially from what we are hearing, there was a confrontation, but the EMT slipped and didn’t actually get shoved down.
2:35
We checked with Kim Brown here at the track.  The EMT that had the issue with Todd Allen talked to the race director and told him that he slipped and indeed did not get pushed down by Allen.  They are going to resend the penalty from the other day and he is allowed to race tonight.
2:35
Comment From James

Is Todd Allen running into tonights race after he pushed a track official down Thursday night

2:34
One of the special guests here for the big event tonight at New Smyrna Speedway will be Florida Governor Charlie Crist.
2:17
Kevin Henry had the wrong lower ball joins on his #99 and Anthony Sergi was an eight-inch low on the ride height.
2:15
Comment From David

Why was anthony sergi and kevin henry disqualified on thursday night?

2:13
2:13
Patrick Laperle had a good Speedweeks here at New Smyrna Speedway in the Crate Late Model class.  The former American Canadian Tour Champion won a race down in Florida for the second straight year.  Although Laperle is done racing for the week his trailer is still here.  We suspect that he is in the area having good time, perhaps at Pub 44.

Tonight’s 25th annual Richie Evans Memorial could see a first-time winner.  Only one of the previous winners will be in the field tonight and that is Ted Christopher.  Christopher is actually a four-time winner of the Richie Evans Memorial after his triumph here over Ronnie Silk a year ago.Click below for a list of the past winners of the Richie Evans Memorial 100:http://www.shorttrackhistory.org/Events/Richie_Evans_100.html

Russ Savoy just spun his Modified in turn two, but he got his car back to the pits.

Hello from Buffalo, Thanks for the GREAT coverage for us that couldn’t get down there. I will be listening tonight, BUT can anybody tell me what the point situation is for the Tour Mods? I’ve been looking everywhere. Thanks

1:30
Unfortunately we did not get that.  We just didn’t have enough bodies to film that last lap, broadcast on radio and do Trackside Now.

Comment From Derek Pernesiglio

Amazing coverage, all through speed weeks. Thanks guys!

1:05
With the rains yesterday, the track itself seems to be fine.  The only problem spots are in the pits where there is a few standing puddles of water, and on the front stretch grass by the inside wall, just past the flag stand.  We were told the drainage doesn’t work well on that side of the flag stand, thus the standing water and mud that both Gary Passer and Ben Kennedy found this afternoon in practice.
1:02
Ben Kennedy just spun his Late Model on the front stretch in similiar fashion that Gary Passer did, but he didn’t get into the wall much and was able to drive away.
1:00
Alex Haase is back here today in his Kyle Busch Motorsports #51 machine.  After tearing up his car a few days ago, including damaging the front clip, he is in a back-up car for tonight’s event.

so no more sks the rest of the week or just today?

12:37
The SK Mods were originally on the schedule for today, but since they are not, we assume the officials decided they had enough of them for Speedweeks, and considering there were under 10 left, it might be the right call.
