Any mainers following along should remember bobby Holley from beech ridge wildcats a few years back.

9:07
LAP 30 – CHECKERED – Rich Clouser picks up the Smyrna Speedweeks Super Stock feature over Jeff Colburn and Ernie Tumminello.

9:07
LAP 25 – The only battle on the track is Mike Amato and Giro Tummirello battling for seventh a lap down. Clouser hasn’t really stretched the lead to an awe-inspiring margin, but it really honestly hasn’t been close between him and Jeff Colburn

9:04
LAP 20 – Bobby Holley is fourth. He was leading last week’s Super Stock feature and pulling away until a hard crash left him in a backup this week.

9:02
LAP 15 – HALFWAY – Rich Clouser, Jeff Colburn, Ernie Tumminello, Bobby Holley, and Mark Tracey. The only change in the top-five since the drop of the green was Holley by Tracey.

9:00
Jarrett Korpi runs 7th.

8:44

Hermiller is a good shoe that’s why

8:39
15 Laps Completed, 10 Laps To Go.

2 Spencer Davis
3 Cole Powell
4 Travis Swaim
5 Drew Brannon
6 Anthony Sergi
7 Brandon Hermiller
8 Nathan Russell
9 Zack Jarrell
10 John Nutley

How Hermiller is seventh is beyond me personally. We’ve seen nerfed out of the groove at least three times.

8:37
That means that Brandon Watson will be your restart leader over Spencer Davis.

8:37
Thank heavens for social media :)!

8:36

8:32
Ryan Preece has joined the 51 Crew in the booth to show us an in-car camera shot from his violent wreck. It definitely appears under this replay that Christopher’s right rear slid up into Preece’s left front, sending him hard into the outside wall.

One word after watching the replay: OUCH

8:31
Still the man on the move is 28 Bass who started 27th and is now up to 14th.

8:29
Caution Lap 14 for 38 Hooker.

8:29
38 Hooker huge shower of sparks from the back end of his machine.

8:20
LAP 5 – Derrick Wood hits pit road.

8:19

8:19

Race officials have determined there was no contact between TC (or anyone else for that matter) and Preece, that it was a solo deal. The World Series of Asphalt Racing has a competition rule where if a driver causes a caution, he or she will be sent to the rear of the field.

Comment From Cale
I know Patrick Laperle #91 (Pro Late Model) has come close a couple times, but do we know of any Canadian drivers to take home the championship when leaving speedweeks?

2:55
Our stats guys, Tim Quievryn and Elgin Traylor have been trying to put together a list of New Smyrna Speedweeks champions but unfortunately it’s a little spotty from before 1999 so no way to say definitively if champions from Canada have emerged from Speedweeks or not. If you have any historical information you can share about Smyrna Speedweeks, please email Elgin Traylor at [email protected]

8 Kievman rejoins the duo

2:55

2:54

2:53

BREAKING: It was just announced that Kyle Larson, winner of the Pete Orr last week and the driver of the #36 SLM machine owned by Tim Russell, has signed a development deal with Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing:

Team Release:

Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates signed 19-year-old Kyle Larson to its roster as a developmental driver.

The Elk Grove, Calif., native took the racing world by storm in 2011 – his first season competing on the national racing scene. Larson captured 22 major professional feature wins, including victories in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series (WoO), all three United States Auto Club (USAC) National Divisions and the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS).

Larson gained international notoriety last fall by sweeping the 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway – winning in Midgets, Sprint Cars and Silver Crown cars in the same night. He was subsequently nominated for the 2011 SPEED Performer of the Year Award against some formidable competition: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, Formula One champ Sebastian Vettel; MotoGP star Casey Stoner; Supercross/Motocross star Ryan Villopoto and his new Ganassi teammates IZOD IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti and GRAND-AM Rolex Sports CarSeries champion Scott Pruett.

In addition to his role as an Earnhardt Ganassi Racing development driver, Larson, who is Japanese American, will also participate in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program in 2012 for Rev Racing in the NASCAR East Series. Fans can stay up-to-date on his schedule and results by following Larson and the team on Twitter at @EGRTeams and @KyleLarsonRacin and on Facebook at Kyle Larson Racing.

We at Speed51.com get a ton of emails, tweets and Facebook messages asking for some publicity for drivers, series and tracks. Much of the news-worthy stuff ends up on one of our outlets. Sometimes, we do take their advice and make them a feature story or do something cool to promote what they have going on.

Now, we want to step up our coverage and publicity for drivers throughout North America to continue bringing fans the most comprehensive short track racing coverage on the web.

To do that, we need your help for two new areas of Speed51.com. Sign up for our Speed51.comDriver Database and Social Media directory. It’ll help you get some story ideas through us at 51 and some new fans when we publish the social media page.
