The 48th Annual Florida Governor’s Cup weekend provides three great days of racing action on the popular half-mile oval in central Florida on October 24-26. The Governor’s Cup 200 on Saturday, October 26. Thursday, October 24 will highlight Sportsman, Super Stocks, Pro-Trucks,and Strictly Stocks. Friday, October 25 will include the Pro Late Models 100, Mini-Stocks 50 and E-Modifieds 50. Find out more by visiting www.newsmyrnaspeedway.org.

3:23

Daniel Hemric is now on track with the Carswell Motorsports No. 98. The team went to victory lane in this event in 2010 when Justin Wakefield piloted the 98 to the win.

3:22

Chad Finley said that he was surprised that the track wasn’t as fast as folks told him it would be before making his first trip to Gresham. He and the team started the day on ARCA/CRA Super Series tires, tires for the series he normally runs, and the car was loose. Once they bolted on the Hoosier tires for the Southern Super Series, the car tightened right up and he is getting more and more accustomed to the track and its characteristics.

It is one of the crown jewel Super Late Model events in the country. The 42nd Annual Winchester 400 will take place on October 11-12-13 at the high-banked Winchester Speedway in Winchester, IN. Some of the biggest Super Late Model stars from all across the U.S.A. will be “gunning” their way to victory lane. Advance ticket sale forms are available at www.winchesterspeedway.com.

3:13

Because GMP has seen some rain storms on race days this season, the schedule for tomorrow’s World Crown 300 is subject to change depending on the weather.

GMP will do everything possible to run the schedule as it is posted currently on the GMP website unless the weather forces us to make any changes. If weather does look like it might post a problem, then GMP will run the Slack Auto Parts World Crown 300 Presented by Peach State Freightliners and Ford Power Stroke Diesel Southern Super Series Super Late Models first. The local divisions would follow in the same order as scheduled. GMP will do everything possible to run all divisions on Saturday evening if there were to be inclement weather.

The Fireworks show sponsored by Royal Oak will take place at the conclusion of the last race event.

We checked in with defending World Crown winner Chase Elliott who said that he and his Aaron’s/HendrickCars.com team are just trying things out today. He doesn’t feel much is to gain in today’s test that will translate to the cooler conditions teams will race in tomorrow night. But, the test is allowing the crew to do some R&D on some new parts and pieces on the No. 9.

Elliott, who has made select starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this season, will return to the seat of his Truck later this month at Bristol.

Suwanee, Georgia’s Anderson Bowen is returning to Super Late Model competition after a leg injury while on vacation a few weeks back sidelined him for part of the summer. Bowen was cleared to compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West combination race last weekend at Iowa Speedway and was running well until contact around halfway kept him from a better finish.

After the Iowa race, Bowen was advised by doctors to keep his foot in a removable cast device when able to, like he was before getting his fire suit on today, but he’s plenty good to race.

Chris Fontaine is making his return to Super Late Model racing this weekend. The Florida racer was a regular in various Super Late Model series in the Sunshine State several years back and on the now-defunct ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour. His family team then went NASCAR Camping World Truck Series racing, which they still do. With the financial burden to field a regular Truck team, Fontaine told 51 today that he will continue to do the speedway races and Martinsville on the Truck schedule, but will get back to Super Late Model racing when the time allows. He recently put together this brand new Port City chassis to come out to the World Crown.

Just to clarify what today is, it is a track-sanctioned test for tomorrow’s event. Teams on the grounds are charged $50 per hour with a three-hour minimum to test today. It is not an official World Crown 300 practice session, so many teams planning to be here tomorrow may or may not choose to attend today’s test.
