Comment From seapimp what were the fast times from yesterday? who all is there?

10:50

There were 48 cars that were on the speed charts from yesterday.   Of those drivers, Chase Elliottwas the fastest on the clock with a 16.546 second lap.

10:54

One name you will see on the list that we are extremely happy to see at the track is Beau Slocumb.   Last year, Slocumb had to step out of the race car due to having cancer.   He spent time in treatment and is in remission.   He has been back behind the wheel of racing vehicles, but this is his first time back in a Late Model since he stepped out of a car after running the World Crown in 2008.

10:58

Many racers burn the midnight oil, but probably not as much as Tim George, Jr has over the past 24 hours.   George raced yesterday in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Phoenix International Raceway in Arizona, while Jeff Fultz and Cassius Clark shook down the #67 Late Model here that is owned by Fultz.   George ended up 29th in the event after being involved in an accident.   Once the race was completed, George packed up and headed here to Georgia.   He is out on the track in practice this morning with just one hour of sleep under his belt.

11:01

Comment From guest Can you give us top 5 or 10 in practice times after each round?

11:34

Jarid Johnson is the brother of NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.   Many people mix up Jarid and Jerrick, but Jerrick Johnson is no relation to the Jimmie / Jarid Johnson family.

Chuck Barnes was fastest in the third practice with a 16.513 second lap.   We will have the top 10 shortly.

11:50

Will Thomas wasn’t the only driver to have problems yesterday.   Allen Karnes broke a wheel and slammed into the turn one wall.   His car was toast, but Karnes was able to get out of his car ok.   From what we were told, he was done for the weekend.

11:58

Earlier in the week, one driver did decide to try to see how fast he could go down the backstretch upside down.   Shane Sawyer hit the water barriers at the exit of turn two while testing on Wednesday, promptly sending his car up and over on it’s lid, sliding down the backstretch.   Sawyer was ok, but the car was not.   He is here with a back-up car.

12:01

The red and black flags have been displayed, indicating the end of practice for the day.Fastest in the final practice was Jeff Choquette with a 16.465 second lap.   We will have the top 10 momentarily from the final session.

12:05

We will not have the top-10 only from the final round.   Instead, we will be getting the cumulative times from all four sessions.   Jeff Choquette was the fastest overall with that 16.465 second lap in the final session.

12:06

The track is currently silent, but next up on the track is rotating practice for the local divisions at 1:00pm.

Comment From bob why is casey rodderick not running this weekend

12:45

Casey Roderick is here this weekend racing, but not in the Late Model field.   Roderick raced last night in the Legends and Thunder Roadster events, taking wins in both events.

12:48

12:48

12:54

Speaking of the Legends Cars, yesterday’s action took place on the front stretch quarter-mile oval.   There were multiple winners in the various different races, which included Alex Coffey (Bandolero Bandits), Anderson Bowen (Bandolero Young Guns), Garrett Smithley (Bandolero Outlaws – combined race with the Young Guns), Blake Jones (Legends Young Lions), Cody Haskins (Legends Semi-Pro), Casey Roderick (Legends Pro), Randy Gunton (Legends Masters) and Casey Roderick (Thunder Roadsters).   The Thunder Roadsters were to race on the big track, but after  a parts failure, the track decided it was safer to run them on the quarter-mile track.

12:55

Next week, Speed51Video.com will have a video recap of some of the Legends and Bandolero racing action here at GMP.

12:58

Local practice is starting here at GMP momentarily.

1:47

We have been informed that qualifying has been pushed back to around 6PM tonight.   That will probably affect the time we go on air for the radio show live qualifying.   We will let you know once it gets closer.

2:07

Comment From bob The Shane Hall that is racing in this race, is that the shane hall that used to run the number 85 of Stegal Motorsports back in the mid 90’s?

2:08

In fact, it is the same Shane Hall that used to race in the NASCAR Nationwide (then Busch)  Series.

2:12

Local practice continues here at Gresham Motorsports Park.   There have been a few spins during the sessions, but nothing too wild.

2:27

Are you not able to be here at Gresham Motorsports Park?   Check out the sounds of GMP on our Speed51Video.com website here:

Comment From DeMan951 So glad to see Beau Slocumb is back racing he is a heck of a driver and has been through so much this past year.

3:04

Practice has concluded here at GMP.   We have about an hour and a half before anything else happens again, which is the driver’s meeting at 4:30pm, which should be followed by qualifying, which appears to be pushed back to around 6pm at this time.Until then, we are going to drop in some photos from earlier today.

Comment From Steven Are the quarter- and half-mile tracks actually true to that length? They seem a little smallish from the pictures. Place looks amazing however.

3:17

That is a great question.   The photos from today show a different looking track than yesterday for the short track on the front stretch.   Yesterday, the jersey barriers on the front stretch were not there, and instead were in the middle of the front and backstretch of the quarter-mile oval.   The drivers raced up onto the big track on the front stretch.

Comment From dray are you going to post times as they go

4:03

When qualifying is about to begin, we will switch exclusively to the live radio broadcast on RaceTalkRadio.com, scheduled to start around 6pm.   We will let you know when we switch to the radio. When that happens, keep the Trackside Now open as well.   Once we are off the radio, we will post results from qualifying in the Trackside Now, prior to the last chance race later today.

4:15

We are about 15 minutes from the manditory driver’s meeting.   We are going to head to the pits and listen to what is said in the meeting.   We will be back after it’s conclusion.

5:06

The driver’s meeting has completed.   We will have news and notes shortly.

5:09

The drivers are on the track for scuff sessions for tomorrow’s Late Model race. All Late Model drivers are able to scuff in two sets of tires for tomorrow’s race.   They are going on the track in groups of 15 for five laps each session.   Once a driver has scuffed their tires, they come off the track, bolt on the new tires and get back in line for the second scuff.

5:10

Once the second scuff is completed, officials said that they will have a quick 10-minute turnaround before qualifying. We are monitoring the time as we will be going live on the radio for qualifying, heard live on RaceTalkRadio.com.   Stay tuned and we will let you know when that will occur.

5:15

Comment From malcolmrspears where is bobby gill? Crane not racing either?

5:18

Due to various illnesses in the BDI Racing camp and time slipping away, as well as the postponement of the Pro Challenge event that Meghan Dillner had to race in today, the team elected not to bring Bobby Gill to the track for this weekend, and instead focus on the Snowball Derby. As far as Ryan Crane, he is here, but he will not be racing.   He is also waiting until the Snowball Derby weekend, and will be racing both the Derby and the Snowflake 100.

5:37

Currently a drifting car competition is filling the time inbetween scuff sessions, but we think we are closing in on qualifying as we think the last scuff has completed. We will be switching to the radio show shortly for live qualifying.

WE ARE LIVE ON RACE TALK RADIO FOR THE WORLD CROWN 300 QUALIFYING …www.racetalkradio.com

We will be back online with the results, but for now, for LIVE qualifying, head on over to RTR!!!

6:35

Comment From Patrick The track photos show what looks to be a dangerous looking end-of-a-wall facing traffic on the inside of turn one. Is there a safety/soft barrier there? Or are my eyes seeing this wrong? Thanks.

6:36

The photo earlier today posted showing the Legends and Bandolero track is without the barriers moved into place for today.   The complete front stretch is walled off with jersey barriers.

6:57

Chase Elliott has won the pole for the World Crown 300.   We are still live on RaceTalkRadio.com.     Tune in!

6:58

Comment From kevin shaw I would expect a huge crowd for Sunday’s race. How is tonights crowd?

7:05

We are discussing it on the air now.

7:07

Comment From passfan Do you have a run down of qualify results ?

7:12

We are in break from live radio action on RaceTalkRadio.com from Gresham Motorsports Park (GA), so we are back on Trackside Now until the last chance race.If you are still listening on RaceTalkRadio.com, you can listen to a replay of last week’s Speed 51 Radio, up until we go live with the last chance race.

7:14

We are working on putting the full qualifying results in the system.   Hang tight and we will have that up here in a short bit.Locally at the track, one of the local divisions is taking to GMP’s big track for their feature.

7:15

Comment From DeMan951 What time is the last chance race scheduled to start?

7:19

There is a 50 lap Mini Stock race, which will be followed by a 35 lap Icebreaker race.   The 30-lap last change Late Model race will be following that.We will keep you posted on when to tune back in to the radio coverage.

7:32

Comment From DeMan951 As a fan of Bill Elliott I am very excited to see what his son Chase can do tomorrow. Great job getting the pole tonight!

Chase Elliott’s pole run will go down in history as the new track record in all divisions here at Gresham Motorsports Park.   The old record 16.830 by Joey Clanton in a Super Late Model, the old World Crown record 17.253 of Tony Wall, and the Pro Late Model record 17.609 by Matt Hawkins, are now all erased as Elliott’s 16.178 makes him the new record holder.

7:42

The top 30 are locked in to tomorrow’s World Crown 300.   The rest of the drivers will be attempting to race their way in via the last chance race, which will be a bit later tonight.   Six will qualify in via the last chance race with two provisionals to make a 38-car field for the World Crown 300.

7:44

Comment From racer rob thanks, and great coverage!!!!

7:48

Don’t forget, we will have the live call of the last chance race after a short while on RaceTalkRadio.com.   Currently there are eight laps remaining in the Mini Stock feature, which will be followed up by a 35 lap Iceman event.   Then the last chance race will occur.

7:57

DJ Thrasher has won the first ever Mini Stock race at GMP.   He almost lost the race on the final corner to Spanky Hicks, who got alongside Thrasher as they crossed the line.   Thrasher said in victory lane he car broke as he was coming to the line.As the rest of the field came out of turn four, there was a major incident between a few drivers, which severely damaged a few cars.   All drivers got out of their cars, even though a few appeared to be a bit sore from the hard hits, which a few happened several seconds after the first incident.   In the driver’s meeting, the local divisions were “encouraged” to use radios and spotters, but the track did not make them manditory.   That might change the next time they race here as most of the carnage might have been prevented.

7:58

Before the 35 lap Iceman race, there is plenty of clean-up needed on the front stretch, but the crews here are working fast and hard.

8:07

The Iceman race is about to start.

8:16

There are 15 laps down in the Iceman race.   We are going live with the radio show shortly.

8:16

We are back live on RaceTalkRadio.com for the live call of the World Crown 300 last chance race.   16 drivers are trying to race their way into the final six spots (plus two provisionals) for the big dance tomorrow. We will have a rundown after we go off air with the radio show.
