12:39

Yesterday, 47 cars took to the track for qualifying, and only one driver could be the pole setter.     That was Chase Elliott, who set the new track record here at a 16.178 second lap.The top 30 were locked in to the field, while the rest had to race for six spots in the last-chance event.   Tommy Joe Martins won that race.   Also, the final two drivers were promoter’s options, completing a 38-car field.

2:02

We have one lap to green flag.

2:03

GREEN FLAG

2:03

Jeff Choquette has got the lead as they went through one and two, and he leads lap one.

2:04

Augie Grill is working his way under Chase Elliott for the lead as the exit turn four and has the position.

2:05

Everyone is pretty well single file here at GMP.   Jeff Choquette leads Augie Grill, Chase Elliott, Ryan Sieg and Austin Hill.

2:06

The first issue that has happened during the start of the race is the scoreboard, as the lap count and top five are not displaying, but on track, everything is clean and green so far.

2:07

In a few laps, Jeff Choquette will catch the rear of the field, which currently is Tim George.

2:08

Jason Hogan, who had a sway bar break during qualifying, is way back in the pack, running in the 37th position.

2:09

LIVE COVERAGE CONTINUES ON RACETALKRADIO.COM

2:10

Tim George has gone a lap down and so has Jason Hogan.

2:11

25 laps are in the books.   Jeff Choquette is still leading Augie Grill and Chase Elliott.

2:12

Bubba Pollard is just a few cars from being put a lap down, which is disappointing for one of the favorites entering the World Crown 300.

2:13

YELLOW FLAGChris Davidson has slammed the wall hard in turn three, ramping up on the wall, but came back down on all four wheels.   Tyler Millwood appeared to have spun to avoid.

2:14

Top three: Jeff Choquette, Augie Grill, Chase Elliott

2:16

Jason Hogan, Bubba Pollard and Tim George all have made their way to pit road for service during this yellow.   Also, Tyker Millwood has stopped on pit road.   It appears he might have a bit of damage to his car, but it doesn’t look too bad.

2:18

Double file restarts …

2:19

GREEN FLAG

2:19

Jeff Choquette has gotten away from the front cars and leads Augie Grill and Ryan Sieg.

2:20

Michael Phelps and Dylan Presnell had some contact off turn four, but they continued.

2:20

Chuck Barnes Jr almost stopped in turn four up high, but he has continued and has made his way to the pits.

2:21

Chuck Barnes has made his way back on the track after it looked like he had a tire issue.

2:22

YELLOW FLAGJohnny Brazier has hit the front stretch wall backwards after contact with another car.

2:24

We are one to green: Jeff Choquette leads Augie Grill, Ryan Sieg, Chase Elliott and TJ Reaid.

2:24

GREEN FLAG

2:25

YELLOW FLAGTommy Joe Martins has spun and backed into the wall about where Chris Davidson hit earlier.   It appeared he had help, but we didn’t see who.

We talked to Martins earlier in the day and he was very optimistic on the day, but it appears his day is over early.

2:26

We are currently working lap 54.

2:26

Comment From Gardrfan I shake my head at how fare racing has come. I’m here in Wisconsin and injoying a race that I would have no chance of getting to. Thank you 51.

2:26

Comment From malcolmrspears why is chuck barnes driving this year for justin drawdy instead of drawdy driving his own car

2:27

We do not have the complete answer, but it could be the same reason as to why Jeff Fultz is not in his #67.   It is more economical to rent out your car rather than racing it yourself.

2:28

Comment From mbolden09 how bad is tommy joes car

2:28

Unfortunately it appears to be quite bad as they are putting it on the rollback.

2:31

Comment From Guest justin has taken over the family owned business and is not able to get away as much to race he will be back at govenors cup and derby

2:32

Comment From Colleen Choquette My son, Jeff Choquette is in the #33 Car Fountain Motorsports and I’m here listening to the race, very nervous…… I wish him the best of Luck !!

2:34

There have been a few cars on and off pit road under this yellow.   One is Dylan Presnell, who appears to have some sort of issue the team has been looking at under the car, but he is back on the track now.

2:35

We are at lap 64, one lap to green.

2:35

Augie Grill leads Jeff Choquette as Grill got the lead on the last restart.

2:35

GREEN FLAG

2:36

Augie Grill spun the tires on the restart, giving the lead to Jeff Choquewtte.   Ryan Sieg is second.

2:36

Augie Grill and Ryan Sieg have been side by side for the past few laps for second while Jeff Choquette is getting away in the lead.

2:37

Augie Grill slid up in front of Ryan Sieg to take the second position.   Behind them, TJ Reaid is fourth with Chase Elliott fifth.

2:38

TJ Reaid has worked his way around Ryan Sieg for the third position.

2:39

YELLOW FLAGRussell Fleeman and Jerrick Johnson have come together on the front stretch, brining out the yellow.

2:39

We are at lap 77.

2:41

Russell Fleeman and Jerrick Johnson are both rolling around the track.   Fleeman did hit pit road, but it looks like they will be able to continue.

2:41

Cassius Clark, Beau Slocumb and a few other drivers are hitting pit road for adjustments.

2:42

The track looks like they have the scoreboard fixed.   We are working lap 81 with Jeff Choquette leading Augie Grill, TJ Reaid, Ryan Sieg and Chase Elliott.

2:43

LIVE COVERAGE CONTINUES ON RACETALKRADIO.COM

2:50

We apologize as we had an Internet connection issue, but we are back.   We did have a yellow for a car up high on the front stretch and into the corner, but we are back to GREEN

2:51

We are at lap 95 with Jeff Choquette leading Augie Grill, Ryan Sieg, TJ Reaid and Austin Hill.

3:18

We apologize for the delay in updates.   We had an Internet equipment failure here with our Trackside Now coverage.   We are hoping we have fixed the issue, but if we do go offline again, make sure to keep listening to the action LIVE on RaceTalkRadio.com.

3:21

While we were away, right before the 100 lap mark, Ryan Sieg appeared to have broken a wheel, slamming the wall in turn two.   The complete wheel bounced up into the fence and ended up landing on top of his car in turn two when it came to a rest.

3:22

3:22

PHOTO: Ryan Sieg’s tire landed on his roof.   (51 Sports Photo)

3:22

Also, while we were away, Jimmy Garmon wrecked, which caused some cleanup.

3:23

We are back to GREEN FLAG racing, but we are confused.   Instead of a double-file restart, the green flag was thrown with the field all strung out and no one really ready to go.   We aren’t sure what happened on that restart, but crew members were throwing their hands in the air on the front stretch to the flag man.

3:24

Jeff Choquette leads Cassius Clark, TJ Reaid, Taylor Satterfield and Paul Kelley at lap 131.

3:27

The field is pretty well strung out around the track here at GMP.   Crews on pit road have been walking back and forth talking with each other and a lot seem confused as to what happened with that last restart.

3:28

TJ Reaid has moved around Cassius Clark for second, bringing Taylor Satterfield with him.

3:30

YELLOW FLAGGreg Simpson has spun on the front stretch.   He was able to get his car going straight and no one else was involved.

3:31

We are halfway in the race.   Lap 151 is on the board.   Jeff Choquette is leading TJ Reaid, Taylor Satterfield, Paul Kelley and Austin Hill

3:33

Sixth through 10th: Cassius Clark, Augie Grill, Fredrick Moore, Chase Elliott, Colt James

3:34

GREEN FLAG: LAP 156

3:35

This restart was a normal two-wide restart, but Jeff Choquette has worked his way to the lead with TJ Reaid following along in second.

3:35

LIVE COVERAGE CONTINUES ON RACETALKRADIO.COM

3:36

Paul Kelley has been putting the pressure on for second behind TJ Reaid.

3:37

Paul Kelley has worked around TJ Reaid for second, while Austin Hill has worked around Taylor Satterfield for fourth.

3:37

Austin Hill is working the outside now and has worked around TJ Reaid for the third spot.

3:39

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 169Fredrick Moore has stopped in turn two.   He is now moving under yellow, so we are not sure what happened.   As he rolls by the front stretch, his car looks ok.

3:40

It looks like a bunch of drivers are heading to pit road.

3:40

Beau Slocumb, Augie Grill, Cassius Clark, Chase Elliott and Austin Hill are all on pit road.

3:41

Chase Elliott, Augie Grill and a few others took four tires.

3:42

The stategy is interesting as some of the drivers that pitted now might not pit under the lap 200 competition caution.

3:43

Top five: Jeff Choquette, Paul Kelley, TJ Reaid, Taylor Satterfield, Colt James

3:44

We are one lap to green.

3:45

GREEN FLAG: LAP 178

3:45

Jeff Choquette got out to a huge jump on the restart and leads the field under the flag stand.

3:46

The top five are all nose to tail, except Jeff Choquette, who is out to about a five car length lead.   Paul Kelley, TJ Reaid, Taylor Satterfield and Colt James round out the top five.

3:48

Augie Grill is back up to the 10th position after pitting under the last yellow.

3:49

While the leaders are out ahead of the pack here at lap 193, there are some hard side by side battles back in the pack around the 10th position.

3:51

Max Gresham has worked his way to sixth around Bubba Pollard.

3:52

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 201The competition caution is out.

3:52

We expect pit road to be a busy place.

3:52

LIVE COVERAGE CONTINUES ON RACETALKRADIO.COM

3:53

They have moved the scoreboard back to lap 200.

3:55

Pit stops are happening.   Most of the leaders are in.

3:56

It appears that Max Gresham, Augie Grill, Austin Hill and Beau Slocumb stayed out and will be the top drivers when they go back to green.

4:00

Comment From Jessica Is there any way we could get a complete running order (or at least top 20 or so)? Thanks!

4:01

Unofortunately we do not have scoring available to us completely where we are at, and the printer has run out of ink that they have been giving us.

4:01

Top five: Max Gresham, Augie Grill, Austin Hill, Beau Slocumb, Chase Elliott

4:02

GREEN FLAG

4:02

Augie Grill has taken the lead from Max Gresham on the restart.

4:02

Jeff Choquette is currently running ninth.

4:03

Back in the pack, Dylan Presnell was able to save his sideways race car and continues on as he is trying to work his way up through the traffic.

4:04

Chase Elliott has worked his way to fourth around Beau Slocumb.       Meanwhile, Jeff Choquette has worked his way back up to seventh.

4:06

Augie Grill has about a half straightaway lead on Max Gresham at lap 216.   Austin Hill runs third with Chase Elliott fourth and Beau Slocumb fifth.

4:07

Max Gresham now has pressure from Austin Hill for the second position as the two cross under the flagstand at lap 222.

4:09

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 224Bubba Pollard has flipped over on the front stretch after getting tangled up with Colt James.

4:09

RED FLAG                                                                                                                           The red flag has been put out as Pollard’s car is resting upside down in turn one.

4:11

Bubba Pollard is out of the car and has walked down the track.   He appears to be ok.

4:14

4:15

PHOTO: Bubba Pollard’s car upside down in turn one.   (51 Sports Photo)

4:18

Also, during the red, it appeared that a rescue truck was trying to get across the track at the same time Greg Simpson was rolling around the corner in turn two, and the two collided, damaging both vehicles.   Everyone is ok.

4:18

4:18

PHOTO: Greg Simpson’s car and a fire truck both are damaged after an incident.   (51 Sports Photo)

4:23

We are back to YELLOW FLAG conditions as the clean-up crew has done their job and we should be back to racing here soon.

4:24

Top five: Augie Grill, Max Gresham, Austin Hill, Chase Elliott, Beau Slocumb

4:24

LIVE COVERAGE CONTINUES ON RACETALKRADIO.COM

4:26

We are one lap to green.

4:27

They have waved off the green, so it will be a few more laps before we go back racing.

4:29

Tyler Millwood has worked his way to the pits and is taking on two right side tires.

4:29

We are now one lap to go.

4:29

GREEN FLAG: LAP 230

4:30

Augie Grill still has the lead, but the battle is back around fourth through 10th.

4:31

Augie Grill, Max Gresham and Austin Hill have a lead over Chase Elliott, Paul Kelley, Beau  Slocumb and Jeff Choquette.

4:33

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 238Brandon Johnson, David Hole and a few others all tangled in turn two to bring out the yellow.

4:33

Top five: Augie Grill, Max Gresham, Austin Hill, Chase Elliott, Paul Kelley

4:34

Right before the yellow, Augie Grill seemed to be losing the handle a bit on his car as he was drifting up a bit in the corners and Max Gresham was closing in on his bumper.

4:35

Beau Slocumb is sixth, followed by Jeff Choquette, TJ Reaid, Taylor Satterfield, Colt James, Cassius Clark

4:36

We are one lap to green.

4:36

GREEN FLAG: LAP 243

4:37

AUgie Grill did not come up to speed and is slow.   Everyone got by him, but he is slow around the track.

4:37

Max Gresham is now the new leader with Chase Elliott getting to second.

4:37

It appears there might be a gear issue with Augie Grill as he was able to maintain a speed, but slow, to the pits.

4:38

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 246TJ Reaid has spun in turn four, possibly all by himself, from within the top five.   He did get back going, but it appears he has a bit of rear-end damage.

4:38

Comment From dray how did 711 get his lap back racetalk side he was a lap down

4:39

There is a lucky dog here, and we assume during one of the yellows earlier he got his lap back.   Also, there is a wave-around, from what we understand, if the leaders pit.We weren’t able to catch that information from timing and scoring.

4:39

From the second position, Chase Elliott has pitted.

4:41

The crew is not sure what is going on, but they looked under the car and he went back on the track.

4:41

One to green.

4:41

GREEN FLAG: LAP 251

4:41

Max Gresham is back out to the lead with Austin Hill second.   Jeff Choquette is third.

4:42

Cassius Clark has slowed and is motoring around the track under a lot less power than before.

4:43

Cassius Clark has made his way to the pits.

4:43

Up front, Max Gresham is still leading Austin Hill, Jeff Choquette, Beau Slocumb and Paul Kelley.

4:44

Chase Elliott about wrecked with Michael Phelps in turn four as the two tried to get into the same spot on the track.

4:45

Beau Slocumb has worked his way around Jeff Choquette for third.

4:46

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 267From the second position, Austin Hill has spun and smacked the wall on the front stretch.

4:47

A half lap before, Max Gresham and Austin Hill had trouble working his way around David Hole.   Hill had to go way up high in the second turn.   Whether there was some contact or if he had junk on his tires, we aren’t sure.

4:48

Max Gresham leads Beau Slocumb, Jeff Choquette, Paul Kelley and Colt James.

4:49

Chase Elliott, who didn’t appear to make up any ground on the restart, is back on pit road.

4:50

Chase Elliott has changed all four tires.   We are not sure, with 29 laps to go, if Elliott will be able to work his way up through the field with the fresh rubber.

4:52

We are one lap to green.

4:52

GREEN FLAG: LAP 276

4:53

Jeff Choquette has worked his way to the lead around Max Gresham for the lead.

4:54

Max Gresham has worked his way to the inside of Jeff Choquette as they are side by side for the lead on lap 281.

4:55

Behind them, Beau Slocumb and Paul Kelley are right behind in third and fourth.

4:55

Colt James rides in fifth as Jeff Choquette is back solidly in the lead, but Max Gresham is stalking him for the top spot.

4:56

Max Gresham seems to have slipped a bit and Beau Slocumb has worked his way next to his car.

4:57

Paul Kelley has worked his way to third now brining Colt James with him and knocking Beau Slocumb to fifth.   Up front, Jeff Choquette still leads Max Gresham.

4:57

LIVE COVERAGE CONTINUES ON RACETALKRADIO.COM

They are being very thorough in tech, so we are still waiting for the word from the tech area.

7:10

Ok folks, here is the current update:We headed down to tech as most everyone except a few teams have left.   They are being very extensive with what they are checking.   They had just pulled Max Gresham’s engine and were just working on pulling Jeff Choquette’s engine.

Since it could be a while, we are packing up and leaving the track.

However, we are not closing out our coverage.

While we were in the tech area, we saw third-place finisher Paul Kelley walking around with a camera.   Kelley is going to be our tech reporter, and will call us when they clear tech or if there are any issues.   We will either post an update at that time from the road or when we get back to our headquarters in North Carolina, sometime around the 11pm Eastern time frame.   Check back for updates later tonight before we close out our coverage.

Welcome back to some breaking news on Speed 51’s Trackside Now coverage of the World Crown 300.   We have spoken to our tech reporter Paul Kelley as well as a few other people, and here is what we know so far.A few hours after the end of the World Crown 300, Jeff Choquette, who crossed the finish line first, has been deemed illegal and thrown out in tech.   We spoke to Choquette, who said they threw them out for an unapproved transmission in the car.

That would declare Max Gresham the winner, but he was also deemed illegal and thrown out in tech.   According to what we have been told, he was thrown out for the heads not being legal.   Gresham indicated to Speed51.com’s Ally Fulson that tech felt that the heads were ground on.

As it stands unofficially now, Paul Kelley would win his fourth World Crown 300, if he passes tech.   Second would then be Colt James, followed by Beau Slocumb.

We are still stopped and awaiting more news.   Stay tuned.

9:38

We have heard rumors that Paul Kelley was also thrown out in tech, but we have spoken to Micky Cain, head of tech, just a few moments ago, and he said that Kelley’s car hasn’t been thrown out and they are still teching his car.

9:40

Folks, we are going to get back on the road and continue our journey back to the Speed 51 headquarters in Concord, North Carolina.   As it stands right now, Jeff Choquette and Max Gresham have been thrown out in tech, giving the unofficial win to Paul Kelley with Colt James in second and Beau Slocumb third. We are keeping Trackside Now open and will update late this evening once we get back to the Concord HQ, which should be between 11:30pm and midnight.

Comment From scott mickey is tough but fair

Comment From Don This is a ongoing problem. Why don’t they check all these cars before the race. I know that would take awhile but now the problem is this track and drivers will have a bad name. Especially with Gresham found illegal. Last year at the snowball derby the guy who won was found illegal due to brake blowers. No pre-race tech. This doesn’t happen on dirt for the most part. One more thing… All those people who paid to watch this race went home thinking that one guy won… Then they will find out more than 1 cheated…You may get this letter over and over again :((((

12:46

We are back in Concord, North Carolina, with the results everyone has been waiting for.

12:47

At 10:30pm Eastern, about five and a half hours after the  checkered flag,  Speed 51 received word from Paul Kelley that his car passed tech and he has been declared the 26th Annual World Crown 300  winner.   This is Kelley’s fourth World Crown victory.
