3:04

The Fast and Furious Fours are on the track for their practice session.   There are four of them on track at the moment, and they do not look so furious, but they are on the track anyway.

3:47

Wow, that was a bit scary.   The second practice for the Fast and Furious Fours was completed about maybe 10 minutes ago and there were USARacing officials on the track by the flagstand, when one of the Fast and Furious Fours drivers pulled onto the track in turn one and accellerated to speed to practice.   Thankfully the series officials were able to scramble off the track as he flew by, so no one got hurt.   The car then exited the track and there were no further issues after that.

3:48

The Pro Cup drivers are lining up for their scuff, then qualifying session.

4:02

The Fast and Furious Fours will be going out for their qualifying session here in a few moments.   There are only a handful of cars for that division here, so it shouldn’t take too long.

4:12

The Fast and Furious Fours are off the track.   Next up at 4:30pm is the scuff session for the Pro Cup racers at 4:30pm, followed by their qualifying session.

4:31

The Pro Cup cars are now on track for their scuff session.

4:37

We are going to attempt some live qualifying updates.   As the cars are crossing the line taking their time, we will post them per driver.   This will allow you to follow along at home as each driver hits the track.

4:42

The first car is hitting the track now, which is Derek Kale.

Qualifying has been completed.   Caleb Holman has won the pole position for tonight’s event.     We will have the full rundown shortly in order.Of note, Bryce Walker was supposed to go out 19th, but a piece of his car fell off on the backstretch, so he came in and ended up going out last.

5:07

Here is the complete qualifying results, and the starting grid for tonight’s Concord 250 Pro Cup event.

One cool note.   Wix Filters has put up a bonus during the four-race championship series.   If a driver wins the pole and the race, they get a cool $5000 bonus.   If a driver doesn’t win it, it rolls over to the next race.   So, if no one takes it during the first three races, the fourth race could earn a driver $20K for winning that final event from the pole.

5:13

We have some downtime here at the track, so we are going to take a break from the PC.   We will be back  before the start of tonight’s race.

7:08

The autograph session has come to a close and the drivers are getting ready to race.   The opening ceremonies are about to begin.

7:22

We found out what the situation was with the Fast and Furious Four driver going on the track when the USARacing officials were also on the track.   Normally here at Concord, when practice is done and there isn’t any action on the track, the track flagman puts the caution lights on.   They were not on and the practice seemed to end earlier than the scheduled time.   According to “Hollywood” Barry Canter , the driver that went onto the track, there were still five minutes left in their scheduled practice.   When he entered the track, no one stopped him and the caution lights were not on, so he thought the track was “hot” for practice.   According to a track official we talked to, they do not use radios, rather they use one-way Raceivers, so he must not have heard practice was over.

7:28

Four cars are going to the rear for the Pro Cup race for various reasons: Bryce Walker, Ronnie Souders, Shane Hall and Michael Ritch.

7:30

The prayer has been said and the National Anthem has been sung.   The command was just given and the engines are hot.   We will be racing shortly.

7:34

The field is currently on the first of five pace laps before the green flag drops.

7:34

For the starting lineup, look back just a few posts to the 5:07pm update.

7:37

We are one lap until the green flag, in which Caleb Holman and Drew Herring will lead the field of 24 cars under the flag stand to begin tonight’s 250-lap event.

7:37

GREEN FLAG

7:38

Caleb Holman got the jump on Drew Herring and is currently leading the field around the track.

7:39

Practically the entire field is now single file around Concord Speedway with six laps down.

7:40

It is still light out here at bit at the track, but a set of lights have gone out in turn three.   We are still green, but we are not sure if that will affect things once the sun goes further down behind the trees.

7:41

On the track, with 10 laps complete, Caleb Holman still leads Drew Herring.   Clay Rogers is third, followed by AJ Frank and Brandon Ward.

7:43

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 13Billy Bigley Jr tried to get under Brandon Ward for fifth in turn three, but Bigley got sideways.   He tried to save it all the way through to turn four, but his car finally broke completely loose as he went around.   Derek Kale caught a piece of his car as he spun.

7:44

Top five: Caleb Holman, Drew Herring, Clay Rogers, AJ Frank, Brandon Ward

7:45

GREEN FLAG

7:46

Caleb Holman still leads Drew Herring after the restart.   The top five have not changed.

7:48

25 laps are in the books.   Caleb Holman is out to a bit of a lead, while Drew Herring is being pressured for second by Clay Rogers.

7:49

Clay Rogers has taken second from Drew Herring at lap 28.   AJ Frank is sitting in fourth, a bit behind Drew Herring.   There is a large gap back to Brandon Ward, who is being pressured for fifth by Jeff Agnew.

7:50

The leaders are weaving their way around the lapped traffic, and at times, it has been a bit hairy.

7:53

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 40Michael Ritch went around in turn four off the front bumper of Billy Bigley.   He was able to get righted and continue on.

7:55

GREEN FLAG: LAP 45

7:56

Caleb Holman still leads Clay Rogers, Drew Herring, Brandon Ward and Jeff Agnew.   AJ Frank pitted during that last yellow.

7:59

Clay Rogers has closed in on Caleb Holman as there is a battle for the lead.

7:59

The leaders are side by side for the lead.   Officially Clay Rogers lead lap 57.

8:00

Clay Rogers has cleared Caleb Holman and is trying to get some distance out from him.   Meanwhile, Drew Herring has worked his way up to right behind the two leaders.

8:01

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 62A lot of smoke on the backstretch happened after a spin.   A few cars involved were AJ Frank and Ronnie Souders.

8:02

Just about all the leaders are pitting.

8:05

The new top five after the pit stops are: Derek Kale, Mike Mason, Larry Wilcox, Clay Rogers, Caleb Holman

8:05

GREEN FLAG: LAP 68

8:07

We are seeing some shuffling on the leaderboard as if some of the drivers they listed in the top five were actually a lap or so down to the others.   Currently Derek Kale is out ahead of the field.   Beyond that we are not sure.

8:08

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 75John Gibson went around in turn four.   It appeared to be off the #1 car of Brett Butler.

8:09

There are more pit stops happening.   We will sort out the top five momentarily.

8:09

Caleb Holman and Bobby Gill are some of the drivers on pit road during this stop.

8:11

GREEN FLAG: LAP 79

8:12

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 80A car has spun in turn two back in the field.   Meanwhile, up front there has been a big scramble for the lead.   We are still trying to sort out who is who since what was on the scoreboard isn’t what we see on the track.

8:13

This is the top five as we know it: Derek Kale, Mike Mason, Clay Rogers, Drew Herring, Brandon Ward

8:15

GREEN FLAG: LAP 85

8:17

Derek Kale still leads with Mike Mason second, but there have been some anxious moments up front as Michael Ritch tried to race his way back onto the lead lap.   So far he is out in front of the leaders.

8:18

Clay Rogers is currently in second as he has worked around Mike Mason.

8:20

Derek Kale has put Michael Ritch back down a lap as he still leads at lap 101.   Clay Rogers in second with Mike Mason in third, but Drew Herring is all over him for the position.   Brandon Ward is in fifth.

8:21

Drew Herring has taken the third position from Mike Mason on lap 106.

8:22

Up front, Clay Rogers has pulled within a couple car lengths of leader Derek Kale, but he hasn’t been able to do anything with him yet.

8:25

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 114Ronnie Souders and AJ Frank got into each other on the front stretch, which also involved Bobby Gill.   During the yellow, Frank doored Sounders, so he didn’t seem to thrilled with him for that.

8:25

Meanwhile, the top five are all on pit road as well as others.

8:28

Top five: Caleb Holman, Jeff Agnew, David Wilson, Brett Butler, Derek Kale

8:29

Well, Caleb Holman was up front, be he repitted.   It appears a right rear tire might have been loose.

8:29

We are hearing the Caleb Holman was possibly leaking, so he was sent to the pits to check.   He was listed as ok, so he was sent back out on the track and got his position back.

8:30

Bobby Gill is in the garage and appears to be done for the night.

8:31

GREEN FLAG: LAP 122

8:32

Caleb Holman still leads, but there is a mad scramble back in the field as the fast cars are trying to work their way around slower cars that started inside the leaders on the restart.

8:33

We are just past the halfway mark in the race.   Caleb Holman leads Jeff Agnew, JP Morgan, David Wilson and Brett Butler.

8:34

Jeff Agnew is pressuring Caleb Holman for the lead.   He is all over his bumper.

8:35

Jeff Agnew has taken the lead on lap 135.

8:36

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 136Derek Kale has hit the wall in turn two.

8:37

It appears that Derek Kale was racing close with Matt Lofton, because after he exited his wounded car, which is parked in turn two up by the wall, he walked down the track towards one, then ran up on the track at Lofton.

8:38

Meanwhile, Bobby Gill is back on the track.

8:38

JP Morgan has pitted from the third position for tires.

8:39

Top five: Jeff Agnew, Caleb Holman, David Wilson, Brett Butler, Clay Rogers

8:42

GREEN FLAG: LAP 145

8:43

Jeff Agnew leads off the restart.

8:44

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 147Debris in turn three has brought out the yellow.

8:44

Top five: Jeff Agnew, Caleb Holman, David Wilson, Brett Butler, Clay Rogers

8:46

GREEN FLAG: LAP 151

8:47

Jeff Agnew still leads Caleb Holman after the restart.

8:48

Brett Butler has been going the wrong was as many drivers have worked their way around him for position.

8:49

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 158Dana White looped his car in turn two to bring out the yellow flag.

8:50

Top five: Jeff Agnew, Caleb Holman, David Wilson, Clay Rogers, Brandon Ward

8:55

GREEN FLAG: LAP 166

8:56

Jeff Agnew still leads the field as the top six cars all cleared the inside lapped-down line after the first lap back to green.

8:57

David Wilson has gone from third to sixth as Clay Rogers, Brandon Ward and Drew Herring all worked their way around him.

8:58

Drew Herring has been all over the back of Brandon Ward for the last few laps, trying to get the fourth position away from him.

8:59

Meanwhile, Clay Rogers is on a mission.   He has just worked his way past the two top cars to take the lead at lap 178.   Jeff Agnew is now second with Caleb Holman third.

9:01

Brandon Ward has caught Caleb Holman and is trying to work his way to third.

9:02

Brandon Ward in now third with Drew Herring in fourth, kicking Caleb Holman back to fifth.   Up front it is still Clay Rogers and Jeff Agnew in the top two spots.

9:02

There are 189 laps on the board.

9:04

Drew Herring had been trying for multiple laps to get around Brandon Ward, and finally did on lap 194, moving himself into the third position.

9:05

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 198Debris in turn one brought out the yellow flag.

9:06

Top five: Clay Rogers, Jeff Agnew, Drew Herring, Brandon Ward, Caleb Holman

9:06

Caleb Holman has pulled out of line and will be heading to the pits.

9:08

Matt Lofton is now the new fifth-place driver.

9:08

GREEN FLAG: LAP 203

9:09

Clay Rogers still leads, but Drew Herring is trying to get second from Jeff Agnew.

9:10

At lap 206, Drew Herring has worked his way to second and is going to try and catch Clay Rogers for the lead.

9:11

Brandon Ward has just worked his way under and by Jeff Agnew for the third position on the track.

9:11

Drew Herring appears to be slowly catching Clay Rogers.

9:12

There are 35 laps to go.   Lapped traffic could make the difference on who win s this race.   Whichever driver up front works around it the best could be the winner.

9:14

Brett Butler and David Wilson have been having a battle on the track.   That battle has ended at the moment as Butler gave Wilson the bumper and moved him to the high groove to get by.   If Wilson gets back to his bumper, it could be an issue.

9:16

There are 25 laps remaining.   Clay Rogers has a decent-sized lead over Drew Herring.   Brandon Ward is third, followed by JP Morgan and Matt Lofton.

9:17

YELLOW FLAG: LAP 232A hard wreck happened in turn four.

9:19

RED FLAG: LAP 232Mike Mason hit the wall hard with the backend of his car in turn four.   It appeared that he went into the wall off the bumper of David Wilson.

9:19

He appears to be ok as has gotten out of his car and has waved off the ride on the ambulance.

9:23

Mike Mason’s car went by the front stretch on the hook, and we see why the red flag was put out.   There was nothing left of the backend of his race car.   Thankfully the driver is ok.

9:23

Top five: Clay Rogers, Drew Herring, Brandon Ward, JP Morgan, Matt Lofton

9:27

There is a lot of fluids they are cleaning up in turn four, so we are still under red flag conditions.

9:31

We are now back to  YELLOW FLAG conditions.

9:34

9:35

The front six cars have cleared the lapped traffic and are nose to tail with Clay Rogers still leading.

There are 10 laps remaining and the top five haven’t changed.   Clay Rogers has moved out a bit from Drew Herring, and looks to be en route to another Pro Cup win in 2009.

Everyone appears to be ok as the cars have either left on their own, or in Larry Wilcox’s case, his car has been hauled away on the hook.   The track crew is cleaning up fluids and debris on the front stretch just before turn one.

We are now back to  YELLOW FLAG conditions.

9:45

In the Pro Cup Series, there will be as many green-white-checkered flag attempts as needed to complete a race, so whether it takes one or 50 or 100 times, we will see a green flag finish.

9:46

On the restarts, Clay Rogers has had the field covered as Drew Herring just hasn’t been able to keep with him.   We will see if that continues again on the next restart.

9:47

GREEN FLAG: LAP 252

9:48

Clay Rogers leads the field to the white flag.
