8:20
Unfortunately, only six renegades here for the feature. Green flag flies.
8:18
Gresham was a track they considered from what we were told. It’s just a little too far south for most of these teams to consider travelling economically.
8:18
Comment From Robbie Henry

I would love to see the Wilkesboro race go to Gresham but Anderson is still a nice track for the series.

8:16
Renegades are up next with a thirty lap feature.
8:11
The Vintage cars put on a whale of a battle between three cars in the final five laps. The race was won by one carlength by Bruce Vincent.

We have nine of them tonight.

Qualifying will begin in about three minutes.
5:25
We also talked to Clay Alexander, who we mentioned earlier is making his first UARA start here tonight, will also be competing tomorrow night in a PLM event at Fairgrounds Speedway of Nashville. His father, Mike, is shaking down the car in Clay’s absence tonight.
5:24
There was also some discussion about qualifying tech. The series is none too happy about teams that are late to qual tech and are reviewing ways to fix the situation. As incentive, the series is looking into a “first-through-tech, last-car-out” situation.
5:22
As for tonight’s race in of itself, drivers were reminded to race with respect towards others and to keep careful watch of their tempers. Tri-County Motor Speedway is a rough, high banked oval that tends to promote rough racing.
5:21
For you stat fans, Poole’s average finish is 1.4 this year.
5:20
This year has been a dream season for Bennan Poole.  In seven starts he has four wins and the times when he did not win he came home second.  Poole comes into tonight 73 points up on Kyle Grissom.  This is the same race where Poole was DQ’ed last season for a tech infraction that cost him the championship.
5:20
We are back from the driver’s meeting. A couple of notes:

This is the first race with a number of rule changes for the series. After discussion with teams, UARA officials have changed the tech bulletins on brake coolins. Liquid coolants are no longer allowed and teams must instead use a maximum of one cooling fan.

Also, rookie test session limitations have changes. Rookies can only test twice a season but there is no longer a limitation on how close they can test to a race day in so long as they get special permission from UARA officials.

We’re going down to pit road to get some scoops and attend the driver’s meeting.

Coleman is currently serving on the Team X Racing pit box in the K & N Pro Series East when he does not drive, so being a crew chief is now out of the ordinary for the defending UARA champ.

Comment From Duke

Coleman Pressley is serving as crew chief and spotter for Randy Hawkins.

More drivers:

#22 – Jimmy Simmons – Making his first UARA start since the inaugural season of 2002 and first start here. A regular at Hickory Motor Speedway

#32 – Jerry “Doc” Miracle – A regular driver from Concord Speedway, making his second start in the UARA after finishing 5th at Concord last year. He was second in Concord points last season.

#36 – Harrison Rhodes – A youngster from High Point NC, this Caraway and Hickory driver makes his second UARA start.

#1 – Clay Alexander – Son of NASCAR All-American Series national champion and former NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series regular Mike Alexander. He’s been running down mainly in the Deep South for the Southern Superstars Short Track Series and the Ken-Ten Series. But today, he gets the call for the #1 Don Satterfield racing team.

4:26
A number of guys on tonight’s roster may not be names you recognize from UARA competition in 2011. Here’s a bit of a fill-in.

#03 Randy Hawkins – Making just his second start of the year, this Greenville-Pickens regular is making his first series start here.

#09 Darrick Coomer – A driver with a lot of experience from Kingsport Speedway, making his first UARA start since 2008. His best finish thus far in this series is 16th.

#71 – Thomas Beane – A Hudson driver who has lots of experience in Late Model Truck racing at Hickory Motor Speedway. As far as we can tell, this is one of his first ever Late Model stock car starts.

4:21
We see the #09 of Darrick Coomer getting a courtesy lap on the track. His team got here late and was unable to compete a lap of practice. He’s getting a few circuits in now.
4:19
One thing of interest caught our eyes in the pit. It appears that Marcos Ambrose Motorsports’ #9 team is also helping out the #04 team as #9 crew guys worked on both cars. We’ll try to see what brought this about on our next walk through the pits.
4:16
The weather here today maxed out at about 95 degrees. As a result, very few teams made multiple runs in final practice. Candace Muzny was the only driver we really noticed really taking advantage of track time. Some drivers like Alex Yontz and George Miedecke only made a quick “shake-down” run.
