Thank you to all of those who tuned in from home today. We hope you enjoyed the action enough to want to make the trip to Lee USA Speedway soon for some great short track racing action.

Thank you to Performance Engines by Billy the Kid for supporting our coverage of today's event.

All cars have now cleared technical inspection and Matt Hirschman is the official winner of the Bullring Bash.
7:13
While enjoying his favorite snack, Oreo cookies, Ryan Preece discussed his day driving "Ole Blue":

"To be with the three car, this was nice," said Preece. "I haven't been with them since 2010 so it was a lot of fun for them to have me back in the car. To finish second and do everything we did, it was a great day. It wasn't a win, but when your car is in one piece and you had a good day at an open show like this, it means a lot."

7:10
7:10
Hirschman on what makes him so successful in these types of races:

"First of all, these are all on short track bullrings. The quarters, third, three-eights mile race tracks. I think that is what I'm the best at. So they're at tracks that really suit my style and I really have fun racing on these little short tracks. That's part of it right there. Just being confident and enjoying what we're doing, as well as making use of all the experience I have in these type of races over the last few years."

7:07
Matt Hirschman spoke about his success in big money Modified shows after the race with Speed51.com:

"These open shows have been good to me," said Hirschman. "It's probably what I'm best at. At this time, I'll just ride the wave and try to keep making the right decisions to get these wins when we can. It seems to be working out for me with these deals."

6:46
We're going to head to the pits for more information and will be back shortly with more.

Spencer Davis was very happy with the result of his first Modified race in the Northeast and said that he learned a lot today about how to use the nerf bar to battle for position.

"It was definitely intense," Davis said about today's race. "You could feel a lot more pressure racing around. Here, it was just all out from the start. Sideways, beating and banging, and using those nerf bars for what they're intended to be used for.

"I learned a lot about how to get people out of my way without wrecking them like the way guys like Ryan Preece are able to."

Steve Masse, who started shotgun on the field, led a number of laps and was running second on the last lap when he was involved in a scary accident in turn four coming to the checkered flag. Masse discussed the incident with 51.

"It's just a let down," said Masse. "One corner away and now the whole car is wrecked instead of just finishing the race. That's part of racing. The whole roof got torn off, the body panels, and the air cleaner. Besides that, it's just a couple of bolt-on parts."

One driver who is not here today is sorely missed. That is Les Hinckley.

Hinckley withdrew his entry this week to attend to something more important than racing. His eight year old son Allen recently started to have severe headaches. The third grader was then diagnosed with a Congenitial Arachnoid Cyst in his brain. He had two surgeries in March, but ran into complications. Future surgeries might be needed as Allen prepares to meet with doctors in Boston.

On June 7th, there will be a benefit dinner at Sonny's Place in Somers, Connecticut to benefit the Hinckley family. Food, drinks, music and dancing will be on tap. For more information, go to the Facebook page "Benefit for Allen Hinckley" and you can find more details.

Small Block Supermodified victory lane ceremonies aren't even finished yet and a number of the teams have already loaded up and towed out the infield pit area. They have an incentive to move quick - if they don't cross over when the track is "cold", they might be waiting to go out of the track for quite some time. Lee, like most Northeastern race tracks, does not have an infield tunnel.

Giving credit where credit is due, Lance Bartholemy just made one of the best saves you'll ever see in a Super Modified. Bartholemy looked as though he was headed for the turn two wall at a very high speed. He was able to turn the car, drift through the corner sideways, and barely miss the outside wall as he punched the gas and continued on down the backstretch.

Ryan Preece has already had a busy weekend. On Friday night, he was scheduled to race a SK Modified at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT), but got rained out. On Saturday he headed to Riverhead Raceway (NY) and ran a double feature there for the Modified division.

Preece qualified second, started near the rear after a field inversion, got involved in a wreck and finished ninth in the first race. In the second race, he started ninth and finished seventh.

Preece got home to Connecticut around Midnight, caught a little bit of sleep and was at the track here in New Hampshire at 8am.

Another NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competitor, Spencer Davis, is here for today's event. Davis' Hillbilly Racing Team made the trip from North Carolina yesterday afternoon and arrived at the track around 3:00 AM this morning.

Davis has talked to a few competitors such as Valenti Modified Racing Series driver Dylan Kopec about the track here at Lee USA Speedway. He told 51 that it reminds him a little bit of Hickory Motor Speedway (NC), but he also compared it to Five Flags Speedway (FL) because of how rough the track can be on tires at times.
