Speed51.com staff has just spoken with 2012 ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour champion Trevor Berry. We asked Trevor what it would mean to win tonight’s 7th Annual Sam Faur Memorial and here is what he had to say:

“It would mean everything to me to win the 7th Annual Sam Faur Memorial. I’ve wanted to win this race for along time stated Berry. A few weeks before Sam passed he actually bought one of my t-shirts. I think the stars are going to align tonight. It’s the 7th annual, Sam’s number was 7, my number is 7, $7,000 dollars on the line. What better way to end it then have a number 7 in victory lane?” said Berry.

QUICK FAUR BIO:

Sam Faur began his life in racing as a teenager sneaking onto the grounds at Auto City Speedway (MI) with good friend, John Belott Sr. The two would watch the races while sitting in the trees that line the back straightaway. Hhe knew he wanted to be involved more than just a fan.

In 1968 Sam finally got the opportunity to drive a Super Late Model at Auto City Speedway (MI), and as they say, the rest is history. Faur competed in his first race in 1968 and remained in the division for the duration of his career which ended in 1995.

During the time that was spent on track, he won more than 30 features across various racetracks. He also enjoyed a great deal of success on the dirt tracks of I-96   and Crystal Speedways (MI).

Faur started the IMCA division in 1988 in Michigan.. It was a racing series for modifieds — and won the IMCA’s first feature at Crystal Motor Speedway located in Crystal, Michigan.

He spent many years moonlighting at various shops, in 1981 it all changed. Faur opened his own business in Mount Morris, Michigan called “Windpusher Supply”. Faur was approached about building a IMCA Modified in the winter of 1986.

In 1987 the very first Windpusher Chassis was rolled out of the shop and competed at nearby Spartan Speedway, located in Mason, Michigan. Shortly after, the phone calls became very consistent and Faur was officially able to rename the business to Windpusher Racing Products.

Sam was known to give the shirt of his back to anyone that needed it. If someone needed a part or was involved in a crash, it wasn’t unusual to see him go back to his shop and make the repairs needed. to go back to his shop to get parts to make the repairs.

As a car owner Faur had many, many feature wins and championships. Names like Joy Fair, Tony Brabbs, and John Doering have all drove the familiar Windpusher #7 house car. Faur had built a excellent client list with drivers as far north as Canada, as far west as Colorado and as far south as Florida.

After retirement from driving, Faur stepped behind the microphone to give his analysis of racing with current Auto City Speedway (MI) announcer and good friend Larry Loynes.

Sam Faur passed away of a heart attack on November 2nd, 2007. The business closed just after Sam’s passing. A few months later son: Chad Faur and business partner Bobby Murany opened back up Windpusher as Windpusher Racing and Fabrication, LLC.

On September 15, 2012 local Modified driver Dave Christensen purchased the Windpusher Racing and Fabrication LLC. The original Windpusher garage is still open today, building Asphalt Modified Chassis and a full supply of high performance race parts.
