The Chet Championship Weekend, which began yesterday, honors the founder of Berlin Raceway, Chet Mysliwiec who in 1950 along-with the rest of his family began the legacy of what is Berlin Raceway, which then was a 1/5 mile oval. From its humble dirt track beginnings, to 1957 when Mysliwiec built a 1/2 mile around the original track, until 1966 when the Marne, Michigan speed plant was paved and became the 7/16 mile oval with 13-degree banking in the turns and Nine degree banking on the straight-aways that it is today, the track is widely considered one of the premier short tracks in America.

Also racing tonight are the Super Stocks (Muscle Bodied Template Pro Late Models) and open-wheeled Modifieds. In the Super Stocks, Seth Moody is in line for his first career Track Championship, however, Will Olmsted, Jeremy Munniksma and Nate Walton all have a mathematical shot at the title as well. In the Modifieds division, Defending Track Champion, Billy Shotko is looking at repeating, but Kevin DeGood and Billy Eppink both still have a chance at dethroning the reigning champion. However, DeGood is not in the line-up leaving only Eppink with the opportunity to dethrone Shotko for the title.

In the Budweiser Super Late Model Series, Meeuwsen is on the verge of a career night as the Zeeland, Michigan veteran, a four-time Outlaw Super Late Model Track Champion, will look to add his first Template Super Late Model crown to his impressive Berlin resume. Tom Thomas, a former three-time Outlaw Super Late Model Track Champion himself, is the closest pursuer to Meeuwsen for the Template title and will need some outside help in order to catch Meeuwsen in the points chase as will Tim DeVos and Dave Lake.
2:10
The Port City Racecars Outlaw Super Late Model Series see Berrien Springs, Michigan standout, Steve Needles leading the points as he will duke it out with Defending Series Champion, Ross Meeuwsen, who will be on the verge of a career night as it is, and former NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series and NASCAR Craftsman (now Camping World) Series Champion, Johnny Benson Jr., as both Meeuwsen and Benson Jr., are right on Needles’ heels in the chase for the 2013 crown. Tom Thomas also has an outside chance at the title, but needs some help.
