5:34

It’s time for Speed51 to join the teams in hitting the road as we have a long drive back to North Carolina tonight.

Thanks for tuning into tonight’s race. Congrats to Mike Garvey and the Tracy Goodson team on the big payday.

Happy Labor Day and 51 hopes to see you at the track soon.

5:33

All in all, lots of body work will have to be addressed when teams get home this week . When we looked at the sheet, only two drivers avoided being involved in a wreck, and those two (Spencer Davis and Chris Serio) left the race early with mechanical woes.

5:32

For Garvey, today’s victory is his third in a row. His team is picking up momentum at the right time as we head into the prestigious and rich fall stretch.

5:29

Speed51 will indeed have more on today’s race on our site later this week.

5:29

Well folks, we tried to get you both sides of the Grill-Pollard story. Unfortunately, Grill is feeling very poorly after this race (all those cautions added up to over two hours in a very hot racecar on a very hot day) and has asked Speed51 to follow up with him later in the week when he feels better enough to give his side of today’s race.

Pollard for his part accepted full responsibility for the wreck, saying he hit Grill square from behind. He did apologize but also firmly stated it was simply a racing deal and one of those things you might have to expect will happen in the closing laps.

5:07

Tech has apparently cleared. Mike Garvey is officially your winner

Steve Wallace’s right front door ended up in the pit box

4:19

It’s the left front down on Boyett.

4:18

Comment From Dan

This reminds me of last year’s Alabama 200. Small field beating and banging every lap. Survival is going to be the key to winning this race.

All cas on the lead lap.

Out:

10 John Wilkinson, III
11 Hunter Robbins
12 Allen Karnes
13 Chris Serio
14 Spencerr Davis

3:33

Pollard will restart 9th.

3:33

Bubba Pollard’s team may lose their position on the track as they have yet to rejoin the field due to a broken wheel stud.

3:31

If so, good strategy for pit boss Freddie Query after having to call an audible when Benjamin thought they had a left front flat.

3:31

Because Benjamin did not pit, he will inherit the lead. Perhaps that is why he was hanging back in 7th that last run, not wanting to put any more wear on the tires than necessary.

3:30

Ken McFarland will be awarded the lucky dog. If Wilkinson does not return to the track, all 9 drivers on the track will be on the lead lap.

3:29

Here comes everyone down to pit except for Kyle Benjamin who already took his two tires on.

3:28

John Wilkinson, III parks during this caution.

3:27

CAUTION – LAP 75: Halfway break. Drivers may pit during this break without losing their current position. There will be five laps to pit.

3:26

LAP 72 – Three laps til the halfway caution. Brandon Odom (8th) must hustle if he wants to stay on the lead lap before that time.

3:25

LAP 70 – Hunter Robbins will officially retire wit ha broken distributor. He will finish 11th today.

3:25

LAP 66 – Grill and Pollard are the classes of the field this first half. Benjamin seemed to be the only other car in their class earlier, but he is still far behind the field in 7th. As he goes by, his car seems to have a slightly  different pitch but we’re not sure if that is indicative of their issue.

3:23

LAP 62 – Robbins falls down the track as he loses power again.

3:22

LAP 61 – Lapped machine of Robbins is giving third and fourth place Garvey and Boyett fits as they can’t find a way around.

3:22

LAP 60 – Grill by five carlenghts on Pollard.

3:21

LAP 58 – Augie Grill turns in a 19.278, the fastest lap of the race thus far.

3:21

LAP 56 – Bolen by Odom for sixth.

3:20

LAP 55 – Robbins loses a lap as he got back to speed.

3:20

LAP 54 – Pollard right back by Garvey for second.

3:20

LAP 53 – Robbins got it refired on that restart and because no green flag laps had been completed during those cautions, is still on the lead lap.

3:19

LAP 53 – Garvey takes advantage of Pollard’s issue to take second.

3:19

RESTART – Grill wiggles in two and forces Pollard up the track.

3:19

RUNNING ORDER:

1 Grill
2 Pollard
3 Garvey
4 Boyett
5 Wallace
6 Odom
7 Bolen
8 Benjamin

3:17

SUPER LATE MODEL RACE PROCEDURES:

The Super Late Model 150 will have a competition caution on lap 75. The caution will only be 5 laps before the “one to go signal” is given.Teams may choose to pit, but are not required to.

Teams that pit during this caution ONLY will not lose positions on pit road to other teams that pit. Teams may also pit on any other caution at their own discretion but those will be live stops.

The only caution period that you cannot lose positions to other pitting cars is the competition caution at lap 75.

Teams have been allotted six tires for today’s race – 4 to start and 2 more to put on when needed.

3:17

After the team verified the left tires were good, they came back in and will change their two tires now.

3:16

Benjamin just pitted out of 3rd with a believed left front tire down.

3:16

Karnes threw his helmet at John Boy Wilkinson, III’s car as Wilkinson’s by. The irony is that McFarland was who turned Karnes, but McFarland and Wilkinson have identical cars.

3:15

We did not complete a lap that go round and will revert back to LAP 51

3:13

CAUTION – Ken McFarland turns Allen Karnes hard into the Turn One wall, right front first.

3:13

RESTART – Pollard again bests Grill at the line.

3:12

We are on to go for the restart. Looks like Robbins will not make it back onto the track.

3:10

Robbins’ team is reporting that the car has fire, but something is not cranking.

3:09

Meanwhile, Hunter Robbins in seventh has just stalled at the exit of Turn Two.

3:09

Odom may have been a clutch as his team is trying to push the car back going.

3:07

John Bolen will get the Lucky Dog.

3:06

CAUTION – LAP 51 – Odom has stopped at the exit of 4.

3:06

LAP 51 – Garvey continues to use the high line to his advantage, taking third from Benjamin.

3:06

LAP 50 – Grill, Pollard, and then Garvey and Benjamin side-by-side.

3:06

RESTART – Pollard beat Grill to the line, but Grill will slide right back by in One and Two.

3:04

More of the running order:

7 Brandon Odom
8 Hunter Robbins
9 Ken McFarland (-1)
10 John Wilkinson, III
11 John Bolen
12 Allen Karnes

13 Chris Serio (OUT)
14 Spencer Davis (OUT)

3:03

Chris Serio will park his car after this caution.

3:02

LAP 49 – RUNNING ORDER:

1 Augie Grill
2 Bubba Pollard
3 Kyle Benjamin
4 Mike Garvey
5 Logan Boyett
6 Steve Wallace

Hunter Robbins is the only car on the lead lap to pit.

3:01

The track does award a Lucky Dog, but since Bolen caused the caution he is not eligible and will not be given the lap back.

3:00

CAUTION – LAP 49 – Bolen, who had been freefalling through the field, cuts down a tire and slides softly into the Turn Two wall. Ken McFarland also spun trying to avoid.

2:59

LAP 49:

1 Grill
2 Pollard
3 Benjmain
4 Garvey
5 Boyett
6 Robbins

2:59

LAP 48 – Grill has used lapped traffice to open up a six-eight carlength lead, his biggest lead thus far.

2:58

LAP 46 – Karnes loses a lap. Odom and Bolen are just half a straight from facing the same fate.

2:57

LAP 44 – The Super LMs seem to be dropping off the Pro LMs usually do at Montgomery. Lap times are currently in the 19.8 bracket versus the normal 19.5 bracket for the Pros at this part of a race.

2:56

LAP 40 – Garvey is the only one using the high lane to his advantage, as he moves to 4th past Boyett.

2:56

Tight racing among three talented drivers

2:56

LAP 36 – Grill leads by two carlengths still over Pollard. That lead has held steady since the last restart. Benjamin is about 3/4ths of a straightaway back from that duo.

2:55

LAP 34 – Garvey used the outside lane to easily clear Robbins for fifth. Wallace by Bolen for 7th.

2:54

LAP 33 – Garvey now going to try the outside to break the logjam from 4th to 6th.

2:54

LAP 31 – Davis’ car is being pushed to his hauler. He is done for the day and will finish 14th.

2:54

LAP 30 – Robbins starting to zero his front bumper onto Boyett’s rear as Boyett is clearly holding up the field behind. Boyett maintains 4th for now.

2:53

LAP 29 – Wallace has caught the pack of cars with 4th to 8th now clumped together.

2:52

LAP 28 – Garvey under Hunter Robbins looking for fifth, but Robbins pinches Garvey down to hold the spot.

2:52

LAP 26 – Benjamin easily clears Boyett who is quickly in the clutches of Robbins and Garvey.

2:51

LAP 25 – Benjamin starting to get impatient with Boyett. Boyett’s car is pushing quite a bit and finally Benjamin works his way under.

2:51

LAP 24 – Wilkinson goes a lap down. Pollard maintains a two-carlength deficit.

2:50

LAP 22 – Grill has a two carlength lead on Pollard. It’s then half a straight back to a developing battle between Boyett and Benjamin for third.

2:49

LAP 20 – Wallace has recovered now to eighth after his early flat.

2:49

LAP 17 – Garvey is now hounding Robbins for fifth.

2:48

LAP 16 – Augie Grill (19.395) turns in the fastest lap so far this race.

2:48

LAP 15 – Boyett is up to third after this restart, Benjamin fourth.

2:47

2:47

LAP 13 – Pollard and Grill still side by side after one lap.

2:47

LAP 12 – RESTART – Pollard will try hanging tough on the outside again.

11 Brandon Odom
12 Paul McFarland

All drivers are on the lead lap. One to go at the line.

2:40

McFarland and Serio will pit under this yellow.

2:39

Karnes will pull away with minor rear damage.

2:38

LAP 7 – Benjamin has completed the pass of Bolen for 6th.

2:38

LAP 6 – Pollard completes the pass of Robbins for second. Serio’s car sounds like it has some sort of motor issue as it goes past near the rear of the field.

2:37

LAP 5 – Grill by three carlengths as Pollard takes a peek under Robbins.

2:37

LAP 3 – Boyett also passed Garvey easily. Garvey finally settles down in fifth.

2:36

LAP 2 – Pollard trying to work the outside past Garvey and will do so to take third.

2:36

RESTART – Another good jukp for Robbins and he is clear in one.
