Today’s Trackside Now is dedicated in loving memory of Robert Dillner, Sr. Mr. Dillner’s No. 51 Figure-8 race car that competed at Long Island tracks was the inspiration for the “51” in Speed51.com, but as a man he was an inspiration to many who knew him. Mr. Dillner passed on his love for auto racing to his sons, Bob Jr. and Matthew, who started Speed51.com 13 years ago and continue Mr. Dillner’s love for all forms of auto racing.

Even above Mr. Dillner’s passion for racing was his love for his family. Mr. Dillner was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He supported his sons’ careers in the racing industry. He supported his grandchildren in everything they did, whether it was racing, dance, cheerleading, baseball, basketball or just being there with a joke and a laugh. He was a friend to anyone who met him. They don’t make men like him anymore. He will be missed by us all.

Dozens of racecars. Two tracks. Two nights. Three championships on the line. That’s the story by the numbers for the first of four Gulf Coast Super Late Model weekends of the 2013 season. It all starts with the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco event at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway on May 24. The Southern Super Series 125 presented by Crane Cams at Five Flags will also be a points event for the track’s Blizzard Series and the hotly-contested Gulf Coast Championship. Then on Saturday, May 25, the top names in the Super Late Model scene will move about an hour across Interstate 10 to Alabama’s Mobile International Speedway for the second half of the Southern Super Series doubleheader. The Mobile event, the Southern Super Series 125 presented by VDL Fuel Systems, will also count for the track’s Super Late Model title and the Gulf Coast Championship. For ticket information and more details on the first Gulf Coast Super Late Model doubleheader of the season, visit www.fiveflagsspeedway.com and www.mobilespeedway.net.

Late Models are still making laps in the morning warm up. From what we can tell we have 16 that have practice. We are not sure if others are waiting till this afternoon for the next round to get out on the track.
12:04
In addition to the Late Models the track will also have features for the Legends, the Rim Runners, Tuner, Pro Mods, Super Street and Pure Stock. They will also get some practice time later on this afternoon.
11:52
We have looked down in the other end of the pits and some really nice looking support division cars have pulled in. At some point we will get an up close look at them.
