Every day during the 2014 Snowball Derby, Speed51.com will award the "Cool Under Pressure" Award, presented by Fluidyne. This award will go to the driver who kept his or her cool when the going got tough. The winner each day will receive a product certificate from Fluidyne. For more on all the performance cooling products available from Fluidyne, visit www.fluidyne.com.

Thursday's "Cool Under Pressure" driver was Johnny Van Doorn simply because of his ability to keep his car away from disaster after getting big-time sideways in front of a big pack of cars in practice. VanDoorn's car all but wrecked and several cars, including Corey LaJoie and Jeff Choquette, were right behind VanDoorn and narrowly averted disaster as well. But for keeping his car straight after being anything but, VanDoorn was Thursday's "Cool Under Pressure" Award winner.

D.J. Vanderley was fastest among Snowball Derby cars. He said it felt good to be fastest in practice on qualifying day, but added "Nobody really got a clean lap in. It was all about how you caught traffic."

Vanderley also said that he and his team are going to monitor how the temperature of the race track changes before the afternoon session to decide whether or not to even make a run.

Each day during the Snowball Derby week, Speed51.com and Five Star Race Car Bodies will present the "Tested Tough Award" to the driver who overcomes the most adversity or battles back from some bad luck. Sunday, after the Snowball Derby, the annual 51 "Hal Goodson Award" will go to the driver "Tested Tough" in recognition of Goodson, who finished the Snowball Derby several years back with a car that was torn to pieces, yet still saw the checkered flag.

Thursday's Five Star "Tested Tough" driver was Derek Thorn.

Thorn is no stranger to this award, having won it previously in recent Snowball Derby appearances after flipping in the Derby three years ago and seeing more bad luck in visits following. Thorn again broke several pieces beneath his No. 43 Super Late Model early in practice, but he rebounded to post sporty times later in the day during Thursday's practice sessions, finishing sixth overall on the speed chart.

For his "Tested Tough" day Thursday, Thorn will receive a product certificate from Five Star Race Car Bodies.
