Comment From SLM Racer

I like the impound rule it saves work for the teams by eliminating special qualifying setups. However being DQed for the night if you need to work on your car is silly. The penalty needs to be you go to the rear of the field! Guys try to support a series and race with them but decisions like that hurt car counts and cost the racer significant $$$$$ with no reward...

THE IMPOUND

After qualifying, cars will be impounded until shortly before the race.  At that time, teams may only make air pressure adjustments, remove tape and tend to driver comfort/safety.

This was a hot issue last week at Mobile International.  Allen Karnes showed up to race.  The night before, Karnes was involved in a wreck during a caution that damaged his racer.  Karnes came to Mobile and spent most of the day repairing the damage from the night before.  After qualifying last, the cars were impounded, but Karnes' and company wanted to continue to affect repairs.  Not being allowed to do so, the Allen Karnes Racing team loaded up rather than racing for last and risking more damage to their car.

I asked Ricky Brooks about making changes to your car after it's impounded.  He said, "You cannot touch the car once it's impounded."  He added that if a car is pulled out of the impound lot before the race, that team's night is over.

There are several drivers not here today that are Show Me the Money Series regulars.  Clay Alexander, Daniel Bolden, and Rodney Benifield are all absent today. One reason, heat.  Some teams have decided that it's just plain too hot.  I talked to Hunter Robbins during the driver's meeting.  He said that in addition to the summer heat, this can be a rough time of the season for some guys.

Robbins added, "Stuff gets torn up, funds are low.  The busiest time is the Spring and the Fall."

THE DOMINATOR IS GONE.  WHO WILL RISE TO THE TOP?

With Augie Grill attending a wedding today, the door is wide open for someone to step up to the plate and rise above the rest.  Hunter Robbins took his shot in the first Show Me the Money race of the year after Augie Grill led most of the night and had a tire failure late.  Robbins got around Grill and won the race.  Who will win tonight?

Blake Ferguson didn't make it passed practice at the last Show Me event. Ferguson said that when he cranked his car a rocker broke and blew up the top end of his motor. He said it's all back together now and that he feels like he has a fast car. Ferguson hasn't turned any laps since the 2010 Snowball Derby weekend.

The driver's meeting just concluded. Pretty standard stuff for the Deep South scene. Race Director Ivo Estes did emphasize speeding on pit road. He said,"figure your pace speed with the pace car. There is no need to rush when you won't loose your lap."
1:17
The driver's meeting is scheduled for 1:20.  I'm going down to the garage for that, talk to drivers and snap some photos.  PRACTICE is NEXT!
