I think Steve needs to run the Winchester 400 next. He could win that too with his success rate!

10:40

Anderson Speedway officials tell us a phase from the electric block around the Anderson, IN area went out, but it only affected certain buildings. Our building here at the speedway was one of them affected. We apologize for the radio broadcast cutting out.

10:38

The CRA Super Series will be at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, MI on Friday night August 19th. If you are in town for the NASCAR weekend at Michigan Int’l Speedway, make the short trip up to Dixie for a fantastic show. We will also feature the race on Speed 51 Radio.

It’s Dorer’s second-career win in CRA.

10:14

Dorer jumped to the outside of Elliott, who was blocking the bottom groove in the final lap, but Dorer snookered the youngster on the high side for the win.

10:14

Dorer only led five feet, but it was the most important five feet of the night for the win.

10:13

CHECKERED FLAG: STEVE DORER PASSED ELLIOTT OFF TURN FOUR ON THE HIGH SIDE FOR THE WIN.

10:13

White flag: Elliott is blocking the bottom.

10:13

Two to go: Dorer is on Elliott’s back bumper.

10:13

Three to go: Elliott leads Dorer by a carlength.

10:12

GREEN FLAG Five to go: Elliott gets the jump and Dorer slides up to second past Campbell.

10:12

One lap to green: Elliott will lead Campbell, Dorer, Tweedy, Pierce and Dietsch to green. Mark Lambert is next one lap down.

10:12

The final five laps must be green-flag laps here in CRA. Five laps to go when we go back to green.

10:09

YELLOW Lap 291: Jim Crabtree, Jr. has gone up in smoke and the yellow is now out.

10:09

Lap 291: The leaders clear the Fisher lapped car.

10:09

Two lapped cars, Terry Fisher, Jr. and Derrick Griffin stand in Elliott’s way with 10 to go.

10:08

Lap 287: Campbell has eaten into Elliott’s lead…it’s now down to two and a half carlengths.

10:08

Lap 284: Elliott is up six carlengths on Campbell and Dorer is right on the back bumper of Campbell.

10:07

Comment From Guest

Darn people no power is no power, just go along with this, they are doing a dang fine job!

10:06

Twenty laps to go for Chase Elliott.

10:06

Lap 277: Now it’s Campbell six carlengths behind Elliott in second with Dorer now third.

10:06

Lap 274: VanDoorn has slowed with an issue. Tires are up but he has gone to the pits, giving up second.

10:05

Lap 272: Elliott leads by three carlengths on VanDoorn with Campbell, Dorer and Tweedy behind.

10:05

Still no power, therefore no broadcast. We’re hoping that our computer battery lasts to the end of the race as well at this point.

10:05

9:58

9:57

Under yellow, Derrick Griffin tried passing the whole field to get to the rear and almost collided with leader Chase Elliott as Elliott was scrubbing his tires.

There is no fluid coming from Miles’ car, so he’ll get his spot back in the running order.

9:56

Mark Lambert is the Lucky Dog.

9:56

Once again, Scott Hantz has returned to the track under yellow. In two laps, he will pass Ken Schrader in the running order, which means more points.

Lights are out on the pace car. One lap to green.

9:51

Mingus has gotten a push to the pits and is apparently out of this race. Jeff Lane has gotten the car re-fired and will join the field at the tail.

9:50

As we mentioned several times earlier, the power has gone out to the entire press box/suite area here at Anderson. Track officials are trying to work on it, but that has knocked our broadcast off and also knocked out power to all electronic items here.

9:50

Comment From Tim

9:49

Both cars had been on the lead lap in the top-10 before the incident.

9:49

9:48

It’s still Elliott, Campbell, VanDoorn, Pierce, Mingus, Lane, Tweedy, Dietsch, Miles and Dorer.

9:48

GREEN FLAG: Elliott holds Campbell off, but VanDoorn gets to the bottom of Campbell. Some bumper tag ensued, but VanDoorn lifted to let Campbell collect it.

9:47

One lap to green, which will come on lap 234.

9:47

Restart order:
1. Elliott
2. Campbell

We hope the track staff can get power back in time for the end, but it’s totally out of our hands.

9:38

Comment From Blaze

do you think you will get the power up before the end of the race

9:38

Derrick Griffin will get a lap back as the Lucky Dog.

9:36

Scott Hantz has returned to the race many laps down and still with significant damage, but he’s thinking championship and hopes to pick up a couple spots for as many points as possible.

9:35

YELLOW Lap 204: Jim Crabtree, Jr. has gone for a spin in turn two.

9:34

With 200 laps in, there are 100 laps remaining.

9:34

Lap 200: Elliott gets by Griffin to put him another lap down.
1. Elliott
2. Pierce
3. Campbell
4. VanDoorn
5. Mingus
6. Tweedy
7. Lane
8. Dorer
9. Turner
10. Dietsch

9:33

Elliott has put Robert Maynor, Mark Lambert and soon-to-be Derrick Griffin another lap down.

9:32

Lap 190: Elliott still leads by 10 carlengths, while Pierce is hanging on to second with Campbell, VanDoorn, Mingus and Tweedy in tow.

9:31

Still no power in the press box. We apologize for that, but it’s out of our control. The track staff is trying to locate and rectify the issue. That is why you’re not hearing the broadcast.

9:31

Comment From Matt

Still no power?

9:30

Lap 180: Mason Mingus had caught up to VanDoorn for fourth, but slid up the track in turn four to lose a couple carlengths, but still rides fifth.

9:30

Lap 178: Campbell took a look under Pierce, but the lapped car of Mark Lambert stopped his progress.

9:29

Jason Dietsch – 4

Rick Turner – 3

9:28

Lap 175: Elliott is almost a full straightaway ahead of Pierce, who is hanging on to second despite the best efforts of Campbell to get around him.

9:26

Lap 160: Elliott leads Pierce, Campbell, VanDoorn, Mingus, Tweedy, Dorer, Turner, Lane, Crabtree, Dietsch.

9:25

Lap 157: Elliott has opened up a five carlength lead on Pierce, who has a rear-view mirror full of Campbell.

9:24

We are making every attempt to get the radio broadcast back, but it is out of our control as the power is out in our suite at Anderson Speedway.

9:24

Lap 153: Elliott gets under Pierce with a nudge. Give Elliott the lead.

9:23

GREEN FLAG: Pierce holds off Campbell and Elliott for the lead.

9:23

The lack of power may interrupt our coverage as well….we’ll do our best.

9:23

NOTE: POWER HAS GONE OUT IN THE BROADCAST TOWER – THE BROADCAST IS NOT WORKING AT THIS TIME, NOR IS ANYTHING PLUGGED INTO AN OUTLET. IT IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL

9:22

That’s as we see it on the track. Officials have not been able to provide who took how many tires beyond Aaron Pierce with 0 tires.

9:16

Comment From Rudy

Has the fisher crew repaired the car? Will they make it to the start of the 2nd half?

9:15

They are working on the line up as some cars did not take 4 tires.

9:15

Aaron Pierce has taken 0 tires. He will start at the front on the restart.

9:09

An ambulance has been called to Joe Beaver’s pit. Beaver is exhausted and the heat has gotten to him. There will be a driver swap and Brett Miles, Jr. will be taking over for Beaver. Miles finished second to Chris Gabehart in a CRA race here several years ago.

9:08

There are eight minutes left in the halfway break.

9:06

No, the broadcast is lead play-by-play man Greg Rakestraw, joined by CRA Super Series announcer Adam Mackey and SPEED and Speed51.com’s Bob Dillner.

9:06

Comment From schmoe

was that former asa announcer Mike Miller on the pa?

9:05

During each caution period the lucky dog or “free pass” is awarded to first car a lap down. It gives them their lap back.

9:05

Comment From sandy

What is lucky dog

9:05

Those listening in to our broadcast, you’re likely not hearing any announcers. The TV broadcast that we are pulling audio from is at break during halfway and will be back in a few minutes.

DID THEY TELL THEM THIS RACE IS 300 LAPS IN THE DRIVERS MEETING

Fisher’s crew is working hard on the nose of the #81, but they’ve got some serious work to do as the radiator is pushed up.

8:47

Steve Dorer is the Lucky Dog.

8:46

This is not a good night for CRA championship contenders as point leader Scott Hantz was involved in a crash earlier and is out of the race and it appears that Fisher’s night is over now too.

7:38

7:36

We’re now getting ready for the national anthem and invocation.

7:35

Those listening in on our live broadcast will hear moments of dead air with just cars in the background. That’s the TV broadcast going to commercial break. As we mentioned earlier, our Speed 51 Radio broadcast is simulcast for a later television broadcast. Scroll down to check out where you can see the race locally in Central Indiana or to download the race later this week.

7:31

Each pit stall has a maximum of eight tires in it. Teams must start with the four tires they qualify on and can put on a maximum of four tires at the lap 150 halfway break. The other four tires can only be used if there is an approved flat.

At the halfway break, cars that take 0 tires will start ahead of the drivers who take one. The cars that take two will start ahead of the ones who take three, and cars who take three will start ahead of those who take four.

7:31

Drivers are now strapping into their cars right now. We are just moments away from the command to fire engines.

7:30

Tonight’s race is 300 laps and yellow flag laps will count. But, under each yellow, if the field is under yellow for more than five laps, scorers will consider it a “rolling red” and laps will not count until the green flag flies again.

Comment From Matt

Any info if Cra will be traveling to same of the cool racetracks Arca travels to?

7:15

Comment From Mike Ray

Thank you for tonight’s coverage Speed51.com

7:15

Before we get started tonight, we wanted to catch folks up on the new partnership for the 2012 season between the Champion Racing Association (CRA) and ARCA that was announced last Thursday. Fans will be happy to know that CRA is not going anywhere and, in fact, there is no change in series ownership nor personnel with CRA. CRA will be known as the ARCA CRA Super Series. CRA will have the marketing power of ARCA’s staff (ARCA has three full-time marketing people that will also help find support for CRA in 2012). The only tangible change for the drivers is a slightly higher license fee in 2012, but in exchange for that, CRA competitors will have the benefit of better insurance coverage through ARCA.

4:07

Drivers have been called to their cars for the start of qualifying.

4:03

Man, you’ve taken a lot of drivers out of the running by excluding those guys! But, I would have to say, outside of some of those guys, Jeff Lane would be a great story. Last year, Scott Hantz won this race just a few weeks after the passing of his car owner, Richard Poe. With Lane sporting a tribute scheme to his lost friend and former spotter William Mefford, you’d be hard pressed to find a dry eye in the pit area should Lane pull the win off tonight. But, there’s a ton of great cars out here, it’s going to be one heckuva race!

4:03

Comment From Matthew Dillner

Duke… who do you think, besides the “name” favorites of Cambell, Elliott, VanDoorn, Schrader, R. Kenseth, Ryan Blaney will be a standout for tonight’s main event? – On another note, have fun up there and I hope for a good race at Anderson. Cool cool place. Old School short track!

4:00

Brad Keselowski Racing Development Driver Landon Cling, a native of Arizona, is making his first start tonight here at Anderson. Cling has been getting seat time in the PASS South Super Late Model tour this season. Cling told Speed51.com that he thinks this track drives somewhat similarly to Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina. He has noted short track crew chief Gary Crooks tuning on the #29 BKR entry.

Tennessee native Mason Mingus started off his rookie campaign on the CRA Super Series with an impressive second-place finish in the season opener here at Anderson back in May. Mingus told Speed51.com that he, with crew chief Chuck Barnes, Jr., brought a totally different setup here to Anderson and they were fairly happy with the car’s performance, but still looking for a bit more speed.

Next on the track will be CRA qualifying at 4:15pm.

Practice for the Redbud 300 is now complete. Stay tuned for final practice results.

Comment From R. J. Scott

Officially speaking…From CRA and track owner Rick Dawson: the event was run in 06, 07, & 08: 08 was a 300 lap event with Scott Hantz winning a rain shoretned event. For 2 years it was a 250 lap event: 07 was one by Johnny Van Doorn and 06 was won by Jeff Lane…the track apologizes for any errors in its record keeping…and would like speed51 to honor and acknowledge the winners from those years as well.

2:38

We talked with several drivers earlier today about yesterday’s practice. While transponders were not used, many folks pointed to Chase Elliott, Johnny VanDoorn and Ross Kenseth as some of the quickest in practice.

When we approached Kenseth about his day yesterday, he was surprised to hear that people thought he was quick.

“We weren’t very good at all,” said Kenseth. The #25 team started off extremely tight, then worked and made it too loose. The team was hoping to find a happy medium in practice today.

2:34

Comment From Statboy

Chase Elliott learned a ton last year at Anderson. His dad Bill came on the radio at one point in the race and said “You can’t drive thru them son.” Elliott was sent to the tail twice and later wrecked and took all the blame. Elliott grew up so much in one race that day.

2:27

Other former CRA winners here include current Outlaw Super Late Model car owner and crew chief Bobby Blount, current Kyle Busch Motorsports crew chief Chris Gabehart, former ASA and NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Joel Kauffman and former ARCA drivers Matt Hagans and Ken Weaver.

2:26

Andy Ponstein, Peter Cozzolino, Rick Turner, Lane, Hantz, Tweedy and VanDoorn are all on the all-time Anderson win list and are here competing today.

2:24

Anderson Speedway has hosted more CRA Super Series events than any other track with 49. Brian Ross is the all-time leader in victories here with nine, followed by Kenny Tweedy with four. Five drivers have three wins: Junior Hanley, Scott Hantz, Jeff Lane, Bobby Parsley and Johnny VanDoorn.

2:23

Ken Schrader’s #52. (Speed51.com Photo)

2:23

The CRA qualifying track record is held by Jeff Lane, set on August 9, 2008 with a lap time of 11.922 seconds (75.491mph) around this quarter-mile.

2:22

There are about 40 minutes remaining in the only CRA practice. Currently Chase Elliott is the quickest, followed by Johnny VanDoorn, Derrick Griffin, Joe Beaver and Jeff Lane.

This is the third running of this generation of the Redbud 300. The race was brought back to Anderson after a hiatus that began when Eddie Hoffman won the last 400-lap event here in 2005. Before that, the Redbud 300 was an annual stop for the ASA National Tour.

2:17

We have been informed of two cars withdrawing from tonight’s race after issues in practice. The #44 of Ben Tunny had a timing belt issue, while the #99 of Fred Hopkins has ruptured an oil pan and withdrawn

2:13

Comment From Mr. Whipple

Gosh, with ol’ Schrader and young Chase Elliott in the field – that’s quite an age spread for this one!

2:13

And to answer your other question, no, 2009 Redbud 300 Champion Kyle Busch did not make the trip to this year’s event.

2:12

Tonight, the top-20 qualifiers in time trials will be locked into the field. The fast qualifier will then draw a standard three-to-eight redraw pill. Positions after the redraw will start as they qualify.

Positions 21 and 22 will be set by CRA owner’s points. Positions 23 and 24 will come from the top-two finishers in the 15-lap Last Chance Race. Positions 25 and 26 will be set by Promoters’ Option. The event promoter also has the option to add additional starters at guaranteed half starting pay.

We do know that Colin Nickolai did make laps, but perhaps he had a malfunctioning transponder.
