Of today’s top-seven finishers, all but winner Campbell will be at the All-American 400 next weekend at Nashville which CRA is co-sanctioning with the Southern Super Series. Speed51 will have live trackside coverage for that event as well.

Brian Campbell flashes a smile after CRA victory #2 in 2013 (Speed51.com Photo)

5:26

Track officials told us earlier that NASCAR is not in the cards for the forseeable future as they would like to see if they could bring in a few more short track series to see how the facility fares that way. Certainly a return for CRA will not be ruled out.

Comment From [email protected]

congrats to Brian Campbell on the win and glad racing returned 2 Memphis hope the Nationwide and Truck Series return in a few years or so!

5:25

Anderson Bowen said his effort in the Super race, where he slid from 2nd to 6th in the waning laps, was hampered by a bad vibration. “It was like riding an old wooden roller coaster, it just kept banging your head around”, he said.

5:24

Ross Kenseth said his car really didn’t drop off in the second half of that race, just that Campbell stepped it up. It would have been a lot more fun race if it had ended at lap 75 he joked.

4:30

Lap 70: McGrath has been pressuring Wallace for the last few laps to take 11th, but remains in the #9’s tire tracks. Neither car is in danger of losing the lead lap before the break though they are the last two cars on the lead lap.

4:28

Lap 67: Looking at tire wear, pretty much every driver is running at a second off their fast lap of the race. Kenseth is running right around 23.4-23.5 every lap. Everyone else is pretty squarely in the 23.5-23.7 range.

Go McGrath 64!!

4:06

Lap 10: Top-five are now nose-to-tail.

4:06

4:05

Lap 8: Haseleu drives by the frontstretch with a very sick sounding motor.

4:05

Lap 7: Haseleu did not pit that lap as Kenseth continues to lead Bowen, Wilson, Hoffman, and now Stephen Wallace.

4:04

Lap 5 – LEAD CHANGE: Kenseth is to the lead as Haseleu is off the pace.

Comment From Lenny

Congrats to South on the win

3:49

South says that the team thought the tire was flat at the halfway break but officials did not deem it flat and thus they could not change it without incurring a two lap penalty. They held on as long as they could and the risk wound up paying off in a way despite a spin.

3:42

A great battle on the last lap gives 6th to Stephen Wallace over Trey Craig.

3:42

CHECKERED: Justin South wins the first late model race at MIR in four years, holding off Colt James and Willie Allen.

3:41

WHITE: Justin South has never competed with the CRA/JEGS All-Star Tour before, and competitors in this series may wish he never do so again the way he has dominated today’s race.

3:41

Lap 123: Allen completes the pass for third.

3:41

Lap 122: Now Allen pulls up alongside Bowen for third.

3:40

Lap 121: Justin South with a large lead as James fends off Bowen yet again for the runner-up spot.

3:40

RESTART: Justin South gets the best jump and clears James into Turn One. Bowen pulls up to challenge James for second.

3:39

RUNNING ORDER (5 Laps to go):

1 Justin South
2 Colt James
3 Anderson Bowen
4 Willie Allen
5 Eddie Hoffman

6 Trey Craig
7 Stephen Wallace
8 Cole Rouse
9 Dakota Stroup
10 Cory Deuser

11 Joe Ross (-1)
12 Bobby Pierce (-7)
13 Jerry Andrews (-8)

3:38

Deuser & Stroup will pit under this yellow.

3:37

Lap 120 – CAUTION: Cole Rouse makes contact with the lapped car of Jerry Andrews, sending Andrews for the spin cycle in Turn One.

3:35

Lap 118: James had to fend off another charge from Bowen, but hangs on to second for now as Justin South has driven away already.

3:35

Lap 117 – LEAD CHANGE: Almost left for dead when he spun with twenty-five laps to go, Justin South has rallied to the lead.

3:35

Lap 116: South is able to pull alongside James down the fronstretch.

3:34

Lap 115: Ten laps to go. South trails James by a single carlength.

3:34

Lap 113: Justin South, like a cannonball through 1 & 2, gets Allen for third and then by Bowen for second.

3:33

Lap 113: But Bowen put a fender inside of James entering Turn One. Nothing doing.

3:33

Lap 112: The first two rows still side-by-side, nose-to tail after the first lap. Finally down the back James clears Bowen back for the lead.

3:33

RESTART: Allen by a nose at the line but Bowen and South hang tough from up top.

3:32

Doubling up, one to go to the restart. James will start inside of Anderson Bowen. The next row is Willie Allen and Justin South, followed by Eddie Hoffman, Trey Craig, Stephen Wallace, Cole Rouse, Dakota Stroup, and Cory Deuser.

3:30

CAUTION – Lap 111: Jerry Andrews spins his #56 in Turn Four. He’ll dive straight onto pit road and does not appear to have any damage.

3:29

Lap 111: Justin South has the car but the question is if he has the time. He is a tenth of a second faster than James but will probably need more than that to catch him (plus getting by the two cars between him and the leader).

3:28

Lap 110: Bowen is now clear to second over James but here comes Justin South. He is by Hoffman for fourth and is only half a straightaway back of the lead.

3:28

Lap 109 – LEAD CHANGE: James goes back by Allen for the lead and now Bowen is going to move to the runner-up spot as well.

3:27

Lap 109: Pierce has come back out on track and runs 9 laps down in 13th. Griffith has retired from this race.

Lap 106: Rouse under and by Deuser for 8th.

3:26

Lap 105: South continues to march forward and may not be out of this yet. He takes 6th from Stephen Wallace.

3:26

Lap 103: Top three – Allen, James, and Bowen – are nose to tail. James seems to be sizing Allen back up as his car appears to take a few laps to come in after a restart.

3:25

Lap 102: Justin South is already back up to 7th, passing Cory Deuser who got back on the lead lap.

3:25

Lap 101 – LEAD CHANGE: Willie Allen to the front after making the pass from the high side. James, Bowen, Hoffman, and Craig remain your top-five.

3 Anderson Bowen
4 Eddie Hoffman

Right rear tire change for South (Speed51.com Photo)

3:22

Bobby Pierce has parked his car and the team has jacked up the left side now and are looking there for whatever befell their car’s handling after the Lap 75 break.

3:21

South pits and the team looks to believe the right rear was the culprit for his downfall.

3:20

He pulled away without damage. Certainly have to think he may have had a tire going down as he was the class of the field and to suddenly lose the handle like that. Right side tires were up as he pulled away.

3:20

CAUTION – Lap 95 : South spins out of Turn Four.

3:19

Lap 94: South back to fourth as Bowen is by and now Hoffman looks to compound the misery.

3:19

Lap 93 – LEAD CHANGE: Colt James has put the hammer down and takes the lead. South in trouble as Allen is by for second and Bowen is about to follow through for third.

3:19

Lap 91: Up front, Colt James has run down Justin South. This is the smallest South’s lead has been all afternoon.

3:18

Lap 90: Craig has fought back on Stroup for 6th as Wes Griffith goes by the frontstretch well off the pace.

3:17

Lap 89: Behind them Stroup gets sixth from Craig.

3:17

Lap 89: Allen can’t make it stick and now has Bowen all over him for third.

3:17

RESTART: Another fine start for South but this time Allen is able to pull back alongside James.

3:17

Getting ready for the restart. After a large shuffle in the last few laps the top ten is:

1 South
2 James
3 Allen
4 Bowen
5 Hoffman
6 Craig
7 Stroup
8 Rouse
9 Wallace
10 Deuser

Tire change for Pierce (Speed51.com Photo)

3:14

Right rear is also being addressed in the Pierce pit as it appears that he had a flat tire there and CRA has approved a change.

3:14

Deuser returns to the track after his team spent their pit stop looking under the right rear.

Mark Gibson pulled down pit road early as well and the rear end is jacked up on his race car. He will lose at least a lap here.

3:12

Pierce decided not to pit this lap. He will pit under caution to maximize pit time.

3:12

CAUTION – Lap 82: Pierce also comes to pit road as Stephen Wallace loops his car exiting Turn Four. Wallace pulls away without damage.

3:11

Lap 81: Deuser off the pace and comes to pit road.

3:11

Lap 79: South leads James, Allen, Bowen, and Hoffman. Sixth now belongs to Craig over Griffith, Stroup (the free pass), Gibson, and Rouse.

3:10

Lap 78: Bobby Pierce had a terrible restart and is now the last car on the lead lap in 13th. In fact, he may have a mechanical issue as he is slower than the lapper cars at the moment.

3:10

Lap 77: Bowen completes the pass of Hoffman for fourth while ahead James holds off Allen for now.

3:10

Lap 76: South really got a great run through 1 & 2, pulling away from the field. Allen has now pulled up to James to challenge for second. Behind them it’s Hoffmand Bowen door to door for fourth.

3:09

RESTART: Justin South with a good start but Colt James will tuck in right on the bumper entering Turn One.

3:07

Doubling up for the restart.

Comment From Belinda Malone

Watched Bobby run at Eldora Speedway for the first time. He was AWESOME!!!!

3:01

Always hard to get an estimate, but I think the promoters here will be fairly happy with today’s turnout. The frontstretch grandstand shows more people than empty patches and there’s a good number of campers here on the far end of the frontstretch.

The best part though, far and away, is the energy these fans here today have brought. They have cheered, they have roared, and they have been as enthusiastic of a crowd as you could possibly have. They just gave a pretty strong ovation to a mention on the PA that the track intends to again host racing in 2014.

No real damage as he goes by us in the tower, but a flat right front tire for sure for the #13.

2:51

Now he’ll pull away slowly.

2:51

CAUTION #2 – Lap 72 – Hunter Baize slides into the outside wall in Turn Four.

2:50

Lap 71: James has been the only person to really stay in South’s zip code thus far this afternoon. He is two seconds back but is able to pretty much match lap times. Everyone else is losing at least a tenth of a second to the lead duo.

2:49

Running Order – Lap 70:

1 South
2 James
3 Hoffman
4 Allen
5 Bowen
6 Pierce
7 Rouse
8 Wallace
9 Deuser
10 Craig
11 Griffith
12 Baize
13 Gibson

2:48

Lap 67: Stroup loses the lead lap to South.

2:47

Lap 64: Pierce draws a bead on Bowen for fifth.

2:46

Lap 63: Rouse takes 7th from Stephen Wallace and it looks like Cory Deuser will soon follow suit.

2:46

Lap 61: Wille Allen takes fourth place from Anderson Bowen in Turn One.

2:45

Lap 59: South’s lead holds at 1.9 seconds. Eddie Hoffman in third is 5.6 seconds back and fourth place Anderson Bowen is an even eight seconds back.

2:45

Lap 57: Now Rouse finally gets enough of a run to complete the pass by Baize for 8th. Deuser will also take 9th from Baize and it’s now door-to-door for 10th between Baize and Craig.

2:44

Lap 56: Trey Craig has joined the 8th through now 11th place battle. Rouse has gotten a fender inside of Baize a few times, but can’t complete the pass and falls back with lost momentum.

2:43

Lap 53: Now the battle is most intense from 8th to 10th. Baize, Rouse, and Deuser nose to tail as these three teenagers race together.

2:42

Lap 50: Allen gets fifth from Wallace and Pierce will follow Allen through to take sixth.

2:41

Lap 49: James has not lost any ground to South in the last few laps. He is still about 1.3 seconds back. Hoffman is 4.4 seconds back and then Bowen is 6.8

2:41

Lap 48: A better run for Bowen this time down the back will net him fourth place.

2:40

Lap 47: Bowen almost got a fender under Wallace for 3rd, but Wallace had more horses under the hood down the backstretch. 3rd to now 9th are nose to tail.

2:40

Lap 45: Justin South leads Colt James, Eddie Hoffman, Stephen Wallace ,and Anderson Bowen. The rest of the top-ten is Willie Allen, Bobby Pierce, Hunter Baize, Cole Rouse, and Cory Deuser.

2:39

Lap 43:  South leads by 1.373 seconds. Bowen chomping on the rear decklid of Wallace looking for fourth.

2:38

Lap 41: Hoffman back up to fourth and pounces on Wallace in Turn One for third. Five cars -Hoffman, Wallace, Bowen, Allen, and Pierce nose to tail from 3rd to 7th.

2:37

Lap 38: South already out to a nice lead. Willie Allen has gotten by Bobby Pierce for sixth.

2:37

RESTART: Justin South outguns veteran Hoffman on that restart, as Hoffman falls back to fifth. It’s now South, James, Wallace, and Bowen the top-four. Deuser likewise had a poor start and is back to 10th.

2:35

Field doubling up. Caution laps are currently counting with lap 35 being shown on the scoreboard.

2:31

CAUTION #1 – Lap 31: Joe Ross has spun in Turn Four.

2:31

Lap 30: Wallace, Bowen, and Pierce are all starting to come together in what will be the battle for fifth.

2:31

The invert for today’s ARCA/CRA race was a six, same as it was for this race. We’ll post the lineup later but Anderson Bowen, who set fast time for this race and then had to start 6th, winds up being the benefactor in the other race as he’ll go from P1.

2:30

Lap 27: South is just turning in some unbelievably consistent lap times. He’s running in the 23.4 bracket and able to put at least a tenth between himself and the field every lap at this juncture.

2:29

Lap 25: Justin South leads Eddie Hoffman by 2.5 seconds. Colt James is another second back in third. Fourth is Deuser, fifth is Wallace, sixth is Bowen, seventh is Pierce, eighth is Baize, ninth is Craig, and tenth is Griffith. Lap 14: Hoffman is now all over Deuser for second and Colt James is closing in on them both from fourth.

2:24
