In 1979, Clyde Hart set out to have a big early-season race at his New Smyrna Speedway in Florida. The track needed a big event to draw equally big names to the Florida half-mile and the Cracker 200 was it. From 1979 to 1998, the Cracker was one of the biggest events race in Florida. Mr. Hart passed away in 1998 and the race went away from the schedule.

Fast forward to the 2013 season and Clyde’s son Robert Hart has brought the race back to run on March 23rd. Veteran racers such as David Rogers will be trying to best some of the young kids working their way up in a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model event at NSS. Some of the top names in Super Late Model racing will be helping the Cracker 200 get a new life in 2013. For more details, visit www.newsmyrnaspeedway.org

Some driver’s have gone as far as saying this certain batch of tires are the best they have ever had at South Alabama, and praised Hoosier for the rubber.

5:27

51 asked over a dozen  Pro and Super Late Model drivers why the speeds were considerably faster this year despite the warmer temps. The consensus answer was that the tires are better. The tires are the same compund, Hoosier F-40, as they teams ran the majority of last season, but the drivers say they are better now, than they have ever been.

Lee USA Speedway, located on Route 125 in Lee, New Hampshire, will open its season Sunday April 14th with the ACT Governor’s Cup 150.  Despite winning four track titles, and the prestigious ACT Championship last season, Dover’s Wayne Helliwell Jr. has yet to claim the Governor’s Cup Trophy at his home track despite two dogged attempts. Helliwell was leading last year when tire woes relegated him to a top five position.

Over fifty cars from all over the northeast US and Canada are expected. Helliwell’s primary competition is likely to come from Pelham, NH driver Joey Pole and four time ACT champ Brian Hoar who has also won the Governor’s Cup twice.

Also on hand for Governor’s Cup Weekend will be the Northeast Mini Stock Tour, Four Cylinders, a 50-lap Late Model Sportsman event and more.

Supers are rolling through tech. and we are scheduled to begin time trials in about 35 minutes. Before we get that started, let’s try a little trivia to pass the time.

There are three former Rattler champions currently on the list of drivers roster. Who are they?

A lot of the Rattler 250 driver’s racing in other divisions this weekend. Bubba Pollard, Augie Grill Brandon Odom and Hunter Robbins will race tonight in the Pro Rattler 125. Also, Pollard will drive Jimmy Hammonds’ No. 07 Modified in tonight’s feature.

We have followed along with Brandon Odom’s venture for a Rattler tropy all weekend. Last night, Odom battled carb issues in the Street Stock race and did not visit victory lane. Odom will have three opportunities to caputre a trophy tonight as he is competing in the Modified feature, Super Stock race in addition to the Pro Late Model race. He will also take part in the Rattler tomorrow afternoon.

2:36

Bubba Pollard and Chris Wimmer have cleared Tech.

This summer, the highly-anticipated event returns to the Milwaukee Mile with the ARCA Midwest Tour and moves to the second Monday and Tuesday in July. Event organizers, building on the success of last year, are adding a Monday night concert featuring the heritage Southern rock band 38 Special.
