Dustin Hubbard is rolling to the lineas we speak. It appears as if he will take time in his No. 21 machine.

5:18

Just spoke to Donnie Wilson. He says his #82 is struggling. He didn’t get to test so, as he said, “we’re doing our testing at the racetrack.” He said he is having trouble with turns one and two.

5:16

Correction, we reported that there were 41 states represented here at North Wilkesboro Speedway, but it is indeed only 21 states represented. On the other hand, there are also 5 provinces represented.

5:12

We are expecting 75 cars to take times in qualifying tonight. The only cars that we haven’t see on pit road are the No. 21 of Dustin Hubbard and the No. 14 of Casey Roderick.

Qualifying Notes :

– The top-15 in qualfiying will be locked into the show.
– The top-10 of those 15 qualifiers will redraw for starting position.
– Everyone else outside of the top-15 qualifiers will run in one of five 25-lap heat races.
– The top-3 of each heat race will transfer into the event.
– Everyone else not yet locked into the show will run one of two 40-lap last chance races tomorrow.
– The winner of each last chance race will transfer into the main event.

4:32

An interesting note about North Wilkesboro Speedway, the front straightaway here is slightly downhill and in contrast, the back straightaway is uphill. Not a trait common in short tracks.

4:30

Tomorrow’s race will have a competition caution at lap 100 for teams to change four tires. There will be another caution at lap 200 but teams can change another two tires at any time during the final 100.

On all PASS races this year, there must not be any loose wires on your car for a computer to hook up to. If officials find any loose wires of that kinds, that team will be immediately disqualified.

4:24

The Top-15 drivers who lock in during time trials must go immediately to tech. The top-3 will stop on the frontstretch for quick interviews for the fans.

4:23

There will be five heat races for this who do not lock in for qualifying. Three cars will transfer from each heat race.

4:20

Fuel must pass tech. Only Sunoco Fuel is to be used.

4:20

The top-15 in qualifying today must participate in tomorrow’s autograph session. If the driver does not, that driver will start at the rear of the field.

Comment From Twisty

I hit return a little bit too soon on that last post….I just talked to Ray Penfold, whose son Billy is running “THE RACE” this weekend. Ray is busy working on VIP Charter Coach up in Maine and this is the first time that he’s missed one of Billy’s races. He’s following along online today with Speed51.com though. An interesting sidenote is that Ray is back into racing himself this year. At 83 years old, he is running a mud truck in Maine and doing very well with it too. He’d love to see Billy make it into the show this weekend because it’s always been a dream of Billy’s to run at North Wilkesboro.

Justin Wakefield, who was fastest in first practice, is back out on the track in the last few minutes of this second session.

2:27

Ross Kenseth says his car is better than yesterday, they are making little gains in this second round of practice.

How close is North Wilkesboro to New Smyrna? I wonder because I see three guys who have won at Speedweeks in the top five of the last practice.

The No. 21 of Dustin Hubbard sustained front end body damage and a broken radiator in that last caution. The crew is surveying his car as we report this.

Way to go Stephen Nasse!!! Make us Floridians Proud!!! Were all cheerin for you!

2:13

Justin Allison told us they believe his #1 is leaking in the rear of the car. He has spun twice during this session. “It’s like it goes into the corner and acts like it’s going to stick then it just comes around.”

Great job guys! I can’t wait to get there.

2:04

We are under caution once again as Justin Allison goes around in the middle of Turns 3 adn 4. As Allison moved down the track, Dustin Hubbard slams the wall and has sustained major right front damage to his No. 21 Super Late Model.

2:03

Fellow Florida competitor, Stephen Nasse has moved around Jeff Choquette to take the top spot on the speed charts in the second practice. Nasse laid down a fast time of 19.146 seconds.

2:02

We are back to green here at North Wilkesboro.

2:01

2:00

We just checked in with Jim Carson from Late Model Digest to check on a few facts. We think this is the highest Super Late Model car count since the Oxford 250 switch to Crate Late Models in 2006. We saw 83 that day. As far as the south goes, it was way back in 2000 when there were 80 cars at the All American 400.
Also, this is the richest race since the Big Dawg Challenge at Wiscasset Raceway (ME) in 2003. That event paid $100,000 to Sam Sessions.

1:59

We’re under catuion once again in th second practice session. It looks like there’s debris up near the top of Turn 2.

1:57

Justin Allison spun by himself in turns three and four.

1:56

This second PASS Super Late Model practic session is back under green.

1:56

Caution is out for Justin Allison who goes around in Turn 4. He ended up right against the wall, but it doesn’t appear that he’s made any significant contact.

1:54

Michael Bilderback watches practice from the pits. Bilderback was sixth in first practice.

1:53

Jeff Choquette was surprised when we told him he was on top of the charts thus far in tthis practice. “We’ll see how it races,” he said.

1:51

Corey Williams and Sterling Marlin are both making another pass through the tech shed during this round of practice.

1:51

Jeff Choquette is currently fastest on the board with a 19.174-second lap. Jay Fogleman, Trey Mitchell, Ryan Moore and Ross Kenseth round out the top five right now.

1:44

Gary Smith and his #75 team made a few adjustments on their car after the first round of practice and weren’t happy with the reaction so they’ve returned to their original setup for this practice.

The No. 64 of Garrett Evans of Washington was great yesterday but not so good today. They are making big changes to that car as we head towards the second practice session of today.

1:20

The #08 of Chris Eggleston put some new springs on his car and didn’t like the way his machine responded. They still think they’ve got a good car for the race, but not necessarily a good qualifying car.
