1:52

Notably missing from today’s PASS Mason Dixon Meltdown 250 is 14-year old series rookie, Devin Jones.   Jones was looking forward to competing here this weekend with a new motor in the car but unfortunately he has fallen ill and diagnosed with the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu, and will be out of the car for a while.   Jones and his team are hoping to be back in competion condition for the PASS event at Greenville Pickens Speedway on October 24th.

1:55

In an unexpected twist, Phillip Morris will not  be leading the field to the green flag today,  but when we spoke with him  moments ago,  he was confident that his position will only improve as he feels that the car will perform even better  during the race.

2:03

After shocking the crowd  yesterday by  knocking the elusive  Phillip Morris off the pole, David Triplett has a defined strategy to maintain his pole position.”The last couple of times that we’ve come here, we’ve been able to run well and since we unloaded yesterday, we’ve still been good,” said Triplett.   “250 laps is a long race, so I’m looking to hang out in the top five for the first 200 laps and then go all out in the last 50 laps.’

2:09

After qualifying fourth, Ben Rowe will start the PASS Mason Dixon Meltdown 250 in fifth due to a re-draw of 5.   Rowe is happy with his #4N machine and the fact that we are under clear skies here today.   He was all smiles as he joked that the hard part is over and only the race is ahead.

2:15

After setting the fast time and drawing a #2 for an outside pole starting position, Corey Williams credits his throw-back paint scheme for his success. Williams and his team have been working hard all season making changes to get the “Batmobile” back to victory lane and they feel they have the  setup do to so today.

2:15

2:15

2:17

John Stancill is looking to bounce back after an unfortunate 10th place re-draw (Stancill previously qualified third based on time). He knows it’s going to be a long race so he’s saving all of his momentum for the end.

2:30

2:30

PHOTO : Ricky Bobby says,”If you ain’t first, you’re last”  – that is the motto that Cale Gale’s crew expected him to drive by today. Although still wearing a “Cale Gale Racing” suit, the roof of Cale’s #95 National Guard late model reads otherwise.

2:36

We asked Cale Gale about his identity crisis.”The crew surprised me with all of this when we got here and unloaded it out of the trailer,” laughed Gale.   “They say, “If you ain’t first, you’re last,” and I guess that’s the truth.   We qualified almost last and I guess that’s what  makes the rookie stripe appropriate.”

3:17

In addition to the havoc raised on the track, only a few laps into the event pandamonium erupted in the pits.   A large object (possible a wrecking ball)  fell from a crane, which is  present to hold a camera used for the shooting of a commerical here today, and fell onto the top of Bruce Anderson’s trailer.  Crew members were present but luckily no one was injured.

3:19

It appears the falling object has actually punctured the roof of the trailer.  The trailer belongs to Bruce Anderson who was also involved in the first caution of the race.

5:57

Quote from winner Eddie Johnson : “It just feels awesome to be able to get out front and race these guys and be able to pull away,” said an elated Eddie Johnson.   “We’re a family-run team without a lot of sponsorship.  We’ve probably got the smallest trailer here, but we’ve got a lot of heart and put in a lot of hard work – it’s just icing on the cake.   At the first of the race I was just trying to get in a situation where I wasn’t too close to other cars so I could stay out of trouble.  That’s where I stayed for like the first 75 laps and then everybody started backing up, which is usually what happens and we just started slowly working our way to the front.  There were a couple mishaps, but we were lucky to avoid all of them and get it in the end.  At the end [of the race] the car was better than it had been all day.”

5:59

The cars have taken the track for the PASS Mason Dixon Meltdown 250 and are now making their pace laps.
