10:05
With just five laps to go:

Moris
Sather
Justin Johnson
Anderson
Hardin

10:04
After a scoring review, Morris gets the nod after going back to the last completed lap.
10:04
We have the final finishing order from the PASS South race and will post them at the conclusion of the Late Model Stock feature.
10:04
Take your pick, folks. History on the line right now at South Boston. Philip Morris trying to win his sixth consecutive Late Model race at South Boston. Natalie Sather trying to become the first female driver to claim a Late Model victory at SoBo.
10:02
It seems like a lot of fans are suddenly Natalie Sather fans.
10:01
Lap 70 – CAUTION – Tim George, Jr. has spun in turn two.
10:00
Lap 70: Morris finally squeaks ahead. Sather lays a little chrome to Morris.
10:00
Lap 69: Morris by a hair at the stripe.
10:00
Lap 68: Sather is THROWING it into the corner. STILL side-by-side.
10:00
Lap 67: Sather at the stripe.
9:59
GREEN – Lap 66 – Sather accelerates out of two. Morris missed a gear. Side by side.
9:57
We will have a ten-lap shootout. Here’s the order as they run on the track:

Morris
Sather
Johnson
Burton
Anderson
Hardin
Bowling
Holden
Tim George, Jr.
Thomas Scott
Caruthers
Deiny
Peregoy

9:55
CAUTION – Lap 66 – Frank Deiny, Jr. lost a tire it appears and slowed dramatically in Turn two. He’ll hit pit road.
9:54
Lap 65 -Ten to go. Quick top-five: Morris, Sather, Johnson, Burton, Anderson. Anderson and Burton at it heavy for fourth.
9:54
Lap 64: Once Morris pulled away by about three carlengths, Sather has not let Morris get any further.
9:53
Lap 60: Frank Deiny is falling back quickly. Justin Johnson has taken third, with Burton fourth and Anderson 5th.
9:52
LAP 58: The top-two are gone. Lots of contact between 3rd – 8th.
9:52
GREEN – Lap 57: Morris cuts off Sather’s run on the outside line.
9:51
To the best of my recollection, a female driver has never won a feature race at South Boston.
9:51
Sather does indeed choose the outside line.
9:51
Remider: Choice restart line. Will Sather choose the outside or play it safe on the inside? It looked like she might be catching Morris on the final restart.
9:48
CAUTION – Lap 56: Debris (?)
9:47
Lap 52: Somehow, Burton has held off Johnson and Anderson. Top-five: Morris, Sather, Deiny, Burton, Justin Johnson.
9:47
Lap 51: Sather is a lady on a mission. Second place past Deiny.

9:45
Lap 45: Justin Johnson and Anderson now beginning to bypass Burton’s fading car.

Lap 44: In the back of the top-ten, Leigh Caruthers has just been passed by Bowling and now might slip into the clutches of Dennis Holden
9:43
Lap 40: Sather pulls alongside Jeb Burton for third.
9:43
LAP 38 – HALFWAY:

#26 Morris
#5 Deiny

Nice recovery for Hardin after crashing out of the first race.

9:42
Lap 33: #9 Bruce Anderson now on the back of Natalie Sather to try to break into the top-five.
9:41
Lap 30: #4 Nick Smith parks it.
9:40
Lap 27: Morris now inching away again, still about ten laps from catching lapped traffic. Oakley parks it for the night after reporting a miss.
9:39
Lap 24: Johnson drew alongside for half a lap, but now falls back to Natalie Sather.
9:39
Lap 22: Johnson all over Burton for third. He looks inside in the third turn, but doesn’t have the momentum.
9:38
Lap 20: Morris’ lead on Frank Deiny has stabilized and is possibly even shrinking a little.
9:38
Lap 18: Oakley’s hood is off. He was second in track points entering the evening.
9:37
Lap 17: As a result, it’s Burton third, just over Justin Johnson and Natalie Sather.
9:37
Lap 15: Josh Oakley slows when running third. He hits pit road.
9:36
Lap 12: Morris didn’t lead lap one, but it’s going take a lot for him not to lead the final lap. He is now visibly putting one or two carlengths on the field every lap.
9:35
Lap 10: Philip Morris by three carlengths on Deiny
9:35
Lap 8: Oakley clears Burton for third.
9:35

8:37
Last year’s winner Jimmy Weller hits pit road.
8:37
Lap 80 – Top Ten
1 – Philip Morris

5 – Stpehen Nasse
6 – Ryan Blaney
7 – Preston Peltier
8 – Heath Hindman
9 – Cale Gale
10 – Gray Gaulding
8:37
From our vantage point, it looked like Quackenbush was the one who drove into James, so maybe there’s more of a story there.
8:35
Quackenbush takes a swing at Colt James car as it limps past on Pit Road.
8:35
Weller will get back on the lead lap thanks to the Lucky Dog.
8:35
Trey Mitchell was on a “frugal plan” this weekend. He said that they only bought one set of practice tires for the entire weekend, yesterday and today. That plan does not appear to be hurting him thus far by any means.
8:34
Lap 79 – CAUTION: Quackenbush makes contact with Colt James in four. James backs it hard into the wall. Quackenbush smacks the inside wall as many make casual contact trying to avoid.

8:31
Lap 69: David Quackenbush’s run back to the front includes contact with some of the backmarkers.
8:31
Lap 68 – Mitchell is now in third and is attempting to catch up to Wakefield.

Lap 65: Trey Mitchell rocked to third on the restart.
8:30
Lap 64 – Nasse and Blaney battle for fifth.
8:30
Kenzie Ruston is now out of the race due to overheating. She overheated at North Wilkesboro, as well, then had the same engine rebuilt before today’s race only to have the same result, according to her crew.
8:29
GREEN – Lap 63 – Morris gets a better restart this time, instantly claiming his lead.
8:29
A few rain drops are falling here at South Boston Speedway.
8:28
No, Ruston is still in the pit area.
8:28
Just before going back to green, there was a skirmish on pit road. Richie Wauters, father, crew chief and owner of Spencer’s #5, confronted Ryan Reed’s crew. Some shouting ensued and Wauters was eventually shooed away by a Reed crew member wielding a saw that was going to be used for cutting sheet metal away from the Reed’s #04.
8:28
Comment From Karli

Did Ruston go green on the last restart before Saunder’s spin?

8:27
Morris holds onto his lead followed by Wakefield, Loden, Mitchell, Blaney, Nasse, Peltier, Lavender, James, and Gale.
8:27
Legendre was around first after contact with Fleming. Wauters came in late and just barely tapped the front of Legendre’s backwards car with the hood of his.
8:26

8:25

8:21
Andy Loden and his Hamke racecar had a great restart, beginning at the back of the top ten, and used the high line to work his way up to third.
8:20
The PASS series policy is always to not count cautions causing a mix up on the scoreboard.
8:20
CAUTION – Scott Saunders and Legendre’s battle finally concludes with Saunders looping it in turn two.
8:19
Lap 58 – Loden uses the high line to work up to third.

Earlier today we caught up with Alex Fleming, who did not practice here yesterday because he was scheduled to compete last night with his #05 Super Late Model in a weekly event at Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, North Carolina.  That show was rained out in the early afternoon, but the storms were out of the area shortly after the plug was pulled and the weather was perfect at night, but there was no turning back once the races were called at Wake County.  Fleming won the opening WCS race and is here today to keep up his luck.

One car not in attendance today, but was here for practice yesterday, is the #51 BDI Racing of Becca Kasten. Yesterday in practice, the #51 machine developed some issues and the team returned back to their Mooresville, NC shop last night to further diagnose the problems. The BDI Racing team won the one and only previous PASS South race at Motor Mile Speedway (VA) back in 2008, so rather than come back out to SoBo to further research a fix to the issues today with only one hour of practice time before the race, the team will instead prepare and test for the Motor Mile race on May 28th.
