7:12

7:10

We are now at lap 97 – unofficially.

7:10

Trevor Bayne, John Donahue and Bruce Haley have gone additional laps down.

7:09

It is not an ACT points race. The event is supported by the ACT Late Model tour, has help from some of the tour officials and runs the same tire and basic rules package – although a few adjustments might be in the rulebook to grandfather cars that ran the OPS Late Model class prior to the ACT rules becoming popular.

7:09

Comment From John

If this is not an ACT race then why is it in the ACT schedule on their web site?

7:08

Ben Rowe has pulled off to the outside pit area. He appears to be done for the day.

7:07

Ben Rowe has slowed on the track again.

7:04

Lap 74 – Joey Pole leads Eddie MacDonald, Austin Theriault, Jeff Taylor and Wayne Helliwell, Jr.

7:04

Restart lap 69.

7:03

Ben Rowe is back out on the track. He does not appear to have lost a lap although we do not have a timing and scoring feed (only the track does), so that is unofficial.

7:03

TJ Brackett is fighting hard to get his lap back.

7:02

Green Flag – Restart – Lap 69 – Joey Pole leads.

7:02

An announcement was made by OPS several years back that ACT rules would be adopted for their Late Model class and that built engines would be phased out. Apparantly, that plan is not the case and has changed as these are the current rules. Practically speaking, most teams today are runnign sealed ACT spec engines.
3-4.1 Approved Eligible Engines

– GM 350 or 350 ZZ4 package (see below)
– Ford 351 W or 351 SVO
– Chrysler 318 or 360

The limited late model circle track engine P/N # 88958603-GMR-350/355 may be used as shipped from the factory with all seals in place. No alterations permitted.

A ZZ4 GM engine program using the following part numbers and sealed under the direction of the American-Canadian Tour (ACT).

– Crankshaft – 14088533
– Cylinder Head – 10125374 (58 cc)
– Connecting Rod – 10108688
– Block – 10105123

GM Bowtie, Ford SVO, (with the exception of the block and two barrel intake manifold) and Mopar Performance parts are not considered O.E.M. and are not approved for competition. Any other engines must be approved by Oxford Plains Speedway prior to competition.

7:01

Rowe’s team is reporting that he lost power steering.

7:01

Shawn Martin takes tires. (Speed51.com Photo)

6:59

Ricky Rolfe’s team goes under the hood.

6:58

Don Wentworth pits.

6:58

A power steering line let go on Ben Rowe’s car.

6:58

Ben Rowe is now moving under his own power – so it might not have been an engine problem on his car.

6:58

Don Wentworth, Bruce Haley, Tommy Ricker, Shawn Martin, John Donahue, Trevor Bayne, Shawn Knight, Jay Laquerre and DJ Shaw are pitting.

6:57

It is not an ACT race, but Oxford Plains Speedway uses ACT-style Late Model rules for their cars. Built engines are no longer an option in the OPS rulebook for Late Models.

6:57

Comment From 18rowdy

not all cars running crates this is NOT a act race

This race is important to anyone who grew up around it – even if they have moved far away. This weekend, we ran into former ACT announcer Troy Germain, who now lives in Florida, and former Mainely Motorsports co-host Amanda Leach, who now lives in North Carolina. Both of those ex-New Englanders plans their summer vacations around the 250.

Wish I could be there… GO EDDY MAC!

6:17

We asked Eddie MacDonald if he felt any pressure on him in his quest to become only the fourth ever three-time winner of the Oxford 250. He shrugged that off and said simply that he just wants to win the race again.

6:16

Most of the drivers who we talked to just now are expecting there to be an exceptionally quick pace to tonight’s race.

6:16

Ben Lynch will start his first career Oxford 250 tonight. He feels that his #7NH Late Model is very quick and he is very thankful to car builder Jeff Taylor for that.

6:15

Ricky Rolfe told us before driver introductions that while his car might not be the quickest one out there, it is very consistent over long runs – which might be a key to winning here tonight.

There could be others since the promoter has the option of adding cars to the field. That is unlikely though since Trevor Bayne is already in the field.

So with Eddie Mac winning his heat that puts Roger Brown in line for the past champion’s provisional?

3:24

Comment From Hanaford

what a boat load of talent! I can see drivers that are not even qualifyed yet, contending for the WIN. Hoar for instance, pit strategies should be interesting…..what a freakin show. Would have been nice to see Brad Leighton, but i read on FB Griswald post that hes celebrating an anniversary

3:05

Accordingly to our sources at Mainely Motorsports, Chris Reindeau was disqualified for being too wide. During the heat races, we are perched on the frontstretch to be able to see the action. Unfortunately, that means it is quite a distance to the technical inspection area and pit area – so we might be a bit delayed with some of the pit notes while we are delivering play by play commentary.

3:02

This is the starting lineup after the heats.  We’ll have more added to this after the consi and last chance races.

There are some Dion brothers and former crew members with the 27NH of Wayne Helliwell Jr. today. Car owner Bruce Bernhardt worked with Dion for years.

Before asking a question, please scroll through our coverage. We have heat race lineups, news, pit notes and much more starting from before 8am this morning and you’re question might have been discussed already.

Comment From BJ

What are the heat lineups?

1:53

They have been filling in nicely.

1:53

Comment From Matt

How full are the stands?

1:53

The time of the actual race depends on when the qualifying events and support races are over. The heat races start at 2pm ET and racing goes straight on from there. There have been no television or video rights granted for this race to the best of our knowledge.

1:53

Comment From Joe

What time is actual race and this is site for live video feed correct?

1:51

Big thanks to our presenting sponsor Dale Shaw Race Cars!

1:48

12 minutes away from the start of the 39th annual Oxford 250.

At least 38 will start the main race. Trevor Bayne is running a team car to John Donahue.

1:46

Comment From johnny racer

how many cars run the main race? is trevor bayne running one of john donahue’s cars?

1:45

It’s great to see that race fans are passionate about their favorite forms of racing, but we ask that everyone please try to stay respectful. We are very lucky to have different cars racing here this weekend – Late Models, Super Late Models and PASS Modifieds to name a few.

1:45

Comment From Jeff

Tobacco Ted – Thanks for staying home, we don’t need your kind at the track. Race fans go and don’t ACT silly like you.

1:43

Comment From Matt

This race should be televised!! Or atleasr on the radio!

1:42

There will be at least 38 cars that start the 250. A few additional provisionals or promoter options could be added.

Comment From Guest

Heats ARE better than the feature. If you’re fast you’ll make a hole and get to the front.

1:38

No, to the best of our knowledge there have been no radio rights granted for this race.

1:37

Comment From race 88

is there a radio station we can listen to the race on we’re going to be driving in and out of wifi areas so will lose the connection frequently

Thank you for doing this! I can’t attend with my husband this year but the updates are so great I get to feel like I’m there with him.

12:54

The heat races roll off at 2pm ET. The feature is dependent on how quickly the qualifying and support races go, but we expect that to be right after dinnertime.

12:54

Comment From BJ

What time do the heats start and what is the start time for feature?

12:54

Comment From Willettes#19

Good Luck Theriault and Taylor! Thanks Speed 51 for your coverage, as always!

12:50

Are Ben Rowe and Derek Ramstrom running today?

Yes, but we could not hear his result. We will have lineups available as soon as possible.

12:49

Did Theriault draw yet?

12:49

The draw is now complete. Ricky Rolfe and Mike Short will start on the front row for the first heat race.

12:49

Eddie MacDonald has drawn #53.

12:48

Eric WIlliams has drawn #10.

12:47

Larry Gelinas has drawn #52.

12:47

Richard Jordan has drawn #39.

12:46

Jon Brill has pulled #45.

12:45

Dave Pembroke has pulled #4.

12:45

Shawn Knight has pulled #30.

12:45

Matt Sanborn has pulled #18.

12:45

TJ Brackett has pulled #13.

12:44

This year, there are supposedly only 73 pills to draw.

12:44

Comment From Wayne

The draw usuallly has more numbers than entries. So till all are drawn and the missing numbers are removed you will not know the lineup.

12:43

Wayne Helliwell, Jr. has drawn #19.

12:42

Jimmy Hebert has drawn #34.

12:42

Trevor Bayne would most likely be awarded a provisional if needed. This would be considered a promoter’s option though as the only official provisionals available are for the most recent 250 winner and the driver ranked highest in the current Oxford Plains Speedway Late Model point standings.

12:41

Comment From barry

will trevor bayne have to race his way in or is he guranteed a provisional starting position

12:41

Ben Rowe has drawn #5.

12:40

Larry Reindeau has drawn #21.

12:39

Ryan Deane has drawn #50.

12:39

Jamie Aube has drawn #27.

12:39

Ricky Rolfe will start on the pole for the first heat race….the best draw of the day!

12:39

Ricky Rolfe has drawn #1

12:38

Tim Brackett has drawn #42.

12:38

Brent Dragon has drawn #32.

12:37

The draw order is random.

12:37

Comment From barry

how did they picked how they are drawing

12:37

Thom Bell drew #66.

12:36

Roger Brown has drawn #36.

12:36

Jeff Burgess has drawn #25.

12:35

Cris Michaud drew #33, but that number was also announced earlier….so keep in mind this is highly unofficial.

12:35

The combination of two people announcing the draw numbers and the PA system breaking up is keeping us from hearing all of the numbers.

12:34

TJ Watson’s team drew #55.

12:34

No, #1 starts pole for the first heat….#2 starts second…#3 starts 3rd….and so on. #14 starts pole for the second heat and so on.

12:34

Comment From joe

so i am assuming that numbers 1-6 get the pole position for thier heats??

12:33

Al Hammond drew #73.

12:33

Don Wentworth’s team drew #29.

12:32

Ricky Morse has pulled #40.

12:32

Travis Sterns has pulled #37.

12:32

Ben Lynch has drawn #6.

12:31

Jeff Taylor is up next….his draw? Number 11.

12:31

Chris Coolidge drew #43.

12:31

Nick Sweet drew #9.

12:30

Glen Luce pulled #61.

12:30

John Donahue pulled #64.

12:30

The PA is breaking up and not all draws can be heard…so a few drivers will be missed.

12:29

Correction – Bill Childs pulled #60, not #16…the PA is breaking up a bit.

12:29

Vanna Brackett pulls #16.

12:28

Billy Childs pulls #16.

12:28

Jeff White is up next….his rep pulled out #47.

12:28

Brian Hoar pulls out #48 in the draw.

12:28

Joey Pole has pulled #20.

12:27

The draw is underway.

12:27

Jimmy Childs has pulled #69.

12:27

Joey Laquerre is up next. He is drawing personally…he pulls out #38.

12:27

Kurt Hewins is up next and the draw for him is #41.

12:27

Scott Luce is up next….his team draws a 63.

12:26

The first driver to draw is Shane Green…and he draws…..number 62.

12:23

The TD Bank Oxford 250 trophy has been brought out to the qualifying draw – to tease the drivers a little bit. Only one of the 70 plus drivers will take it home and only 43 of them will even get the chance to make it into the starting field to race for it.

12:20

The drivers have walking en mass out of the pit area to the fronstretch for the all-important qualifying draw.

12:18

The first heat will have 13.

12:15

Comment From Derek Lynch

Good luck to all the teams and drivers from the 1994 winner. The 250 is a great race!

12:12

73 cars is the official count. 12 cars on all heats and one with 13.

12:12

Driver’s meeting is underway.

12:11

After practice, several drivers took to Facebook to communicate with their fans how their racecars are for today. Wayne Helliwell stated that he’s happy with the overall performance of his car, Corey Morgan has had trouble with a rocker arm but is hoping for a good draw and Ben Ashline has been giving his fans updates all weekend. If you are with a team and you are doing Facebook updates, let us know by using the comment button and we will share that information with the fans following along.

The #22VT was out for practice. We could not see from our vantage point if Roger was behind the wheel, but he was the one suited up earlier this morning so it is a safe bet that he was.

12:00

Comment From Bill

Did Roger Brown practice in the 22vt?

11:56

The all important drivers meeting will be up in a few minutes.

11:55

11:51

The #13 of Mike Short was just a tick late for practice and briefly shared the track under caution with the Strictly Stocks before having to come into the pit area. Short is a former Strictly Stock driver though, so it was probably natural for him to be on track at that time.

11:49

Practice for the Oxford is now complete – the last three cars that were on the track were Eddie MacDonald, Shawn Knight and Kurt Hewins.

11:22

Austin Theriault, Ben Rowe, Jeff Taylor and Brian Hoar are among those headed out onto the track now. It’s gotten down to crunch time for those preparing for the 250 and this is going to be a busy practice session.

11:21

Another round of Late Model practice is underway. Shawn Martin, Jay Laquerre, Cris Michaud, Vanna Brackett, Travis Sterns, Karl Allard, TJ Brackett, Chris Coolidge and Glen Luce are among those hitting the track.

11:12

The final 250 practice will be up at 11:20pm.

11:08

The track is now quiet – for the moment – as there is a break in practice sessions. The Strictly Stocks will be out next.

11:03

The track has announced that there have been 74 Late Models that have gone through technical inspection. At this point, that is as official of a car count as we are likely to get.

11:00

The Mini Stocks are now on the track for a practice session.

10:59

I hope so. The Auto Value 250 at Speedway 660 is one of my favorite events of the year. American race fans should consider taking a trip North of the Border to New Brunswick for that show on Labor Day weekend.

10:59

We checked in with the track and they are not posting practice times to save the transponders for the race.

10:41

Even though the heat races are not scheduled until 2pm and the feature will probably take place right after dinnertime, the fans have already started to stake out their seats for the 250. The most of the grandstands feature reserved seating, with the bottom rows being general admission seating.

10:40

10:39

Patrick Laperle has not practiced much today. He is very happy with his car so far and really only plans to scuff some tires.

10:38

Currently, there is a bit of a lull in practice. Only Ricky Rolfe, Travis Sterns and TJ Watson are on the track.

10:01

There is no Keith Rocco here today – the word in the pit area was that he might show up here for the 250, but that hasn’t happened yet.  Last night, Rocco finished third in the SK Modified feature at Connecticut’s Waterford Speedbowl.

10:01

Comment From J5

it doesn’t look like Keith Rocco made the trip. Any word on him?

9:50

All signs point to yes – even though Roger himself says no.  There is a piece of duct tape on the roof of the #22VT that says “Roger Brown” and the 2007 Oxford 250 winner is currently sitting in the team’s trailer in his firesuit.  When asked if he’s making a comeback, Brown was elusive with an answer.

“Nope,” he said with a laugh.  “I’m a figment of your imagination.”

We then pointed out that he is wearing a firesuit.

“I just want to look good,” was his quick response.

9:36

We’ll have more after the driver’s meeting.

9:36

Race Procedures

The TD Bank 250 will consist of 250 green flag laps.  Under caution cars may enter the pits when the pits are opened.  UNDER CAUTION, CARS IN THE PIT WILL NOT LOSE A LAP.  Cars that enter the pit when it is closed, will go to the back of the field, behind all cars, including those that pitted after them.

9:36

Provisional Starters

There will be two guaranteed provisional starting positions.  The first will go to the non-qualified competitor that is currently highest in the OPS Late Model Point Standings and has competed in all the OPS Late Model points races in 2012.  In order to receive this provisional, the competitor must make every attempt to qualify through the heat, consolation race, and last chance race.

The second provisional starting position with go to the most recent non-qualified TD Bank 250 Champion.

Additional starters may be added at the discretion of OPS.

9:36

Qualifying Procedure

Heats

There will be six 15 lap qualifying heats.  The top four finishing cars in each heat will qualify for the TD Bank 250.

Consolation Races

There will be three 20 lap consolation races.  The top three finishing cars in each consolation race will qualify for the TD Bank 250.

Last Chance Races

There will be three 20 lap last chance races.  The winner of each last chance race will qualify for the TD Bank 250.

9:35

Tire Policy

Each car will be allowed to buy up to 8 tires to compete in all qualifying races and the TD Bank 250. Tires will be on sale on Saturday, July 21, but tires purchased on Saturday will remain impounded until Sunday morning, July 22. Tires will also be on sale on Sunday, July 22. All 8 tires DO NOT have to be bought at one time. Teams can purchase less than 8 tires and if they make it into the TD Bank 250, buy additional tires up to a maximum of 8 total race tires.

Practice tires will also be available on July 21 and July 22.

The purpose of this tire policy is to make the event as affordable as possible for race teams.

9:35

While we have a chance we are going to cover the race procedures.

9:34

2pm will be the first heat.

Looking down the OPS points the top 24 guys are here to race this weekend.  That will make the previsonal a hard spot to come by.

Stay tuned.  We are hearing rumblings that Trevor Bayne has talked to a crew member for one of the Super Late Model teams here this weekend and a PASS South race or two in a strong car might be a strong possibility for him in the near future.

Comment From kmd207

Too bad Trevor Bayne didn’t run the PASS race last night. He was a stud in the Busch North(K&N East) cars, he would’ve put on a hell of a show in one of the pro stocks.

9:15

One of the new arrivals here today won’t get the chance to race, but has a good story to tell nevertheless.  Eric Drew, who is the oldest son of 2001 Oxford 250 winner Gary Drew, came here today with a black car that didn’t have a single decal or number on it.  They bolted on some American Racer tires that were hanging around the shop – just so they could roll through tech.  The team had been working until at least midnight every day this week on the car and finished it at 3am this morning.  But technical inspection didn’t go well and they won’t get to race today.

“The list was just too long,” said Drew.  “We had too much that had to be done and that’s disappointing after how hard this team worked.  Last week, this car was just a bare frame.  The team worked their tails off.”

Drew will be back though.  He is going to be allowed to turn some practice laps to shake his car down and plans to be entering some weekly shows here soon.

“We’re going to be coming back next week,” said Drew.  “We’ve come too far to give up now.”

Cassius Clark won last night’s PASS Super Late Model race over Trevor Sanborn and Derek Ramstrom.
