We’re closing up shop here for the night.  It’s still raining here at Orange County Speedway and there is no track drying effort going on.   There are severe storms on their way here to OCS and our staff has a two-plus hour drive home right into the storms, so we’re going to hit the road while still relatively safe to do so.Thanks for joining us here on Speed51.com’s Trackside Now.  Stay tuned to Speed51.com all next week for more from this race, plus all the Short Track Draft picks, of which the top-10 picks will be announced live on Speed 51 Radio this Tuesday night at 6pm on RaceTalkRadio.com and live at Buffalo Wild Wings in Concord, NC.

9:19

Matt Murphy was the overall winner, a Bandit division driver, while third-place Ryan McIntosh was the Outlaw division winner.  Stephen Johns was second.

Comment From Jeffrey S. Who won the Bandolero car feature, Thanks in advance

9:17

Track drying efforts have stalled here at OCS, but there’s not been any updates here as far as to if they are still going to hold the Limited Late Model feature.

9:15

Indeed, kudos to Tom Mayberry and the entire PASS organization, as well as Kim Foushee and the whole staff here at Orange County Speedway for their efforts to get tonight’s show in.  Earlier in the day, it didn’t seem possible that the whole PASS South race would get in before the rain, but it sure enough did much to the delight of the packed house here at OCS.

9:14

Comment From mike im so glad to see a series change the running order because of rain bravo

8:33

Top five are single file on lap 103.  Moore, Hemric, Peltier, Lawler, Gase, Loden.

8:33

Moore has held the lead on the restart with Hemric following in second.

8:33

GREEN FLAG lap 100

8:33

8:31

Peltier and Hemric are side-by-side under caution awaiting a scorer’s decision about who’s in the runner-up spot.  They were door-to-door for several laps before the yellow.

8:30

TJ Reaid’s day is done as the KBM team has pulled the #51 to the back of the trailer.

8:30

YELLOW FLAG lap 100: George Gorham has pounded the turn-one wall with his #10s.  He has driven away from the scene.

8:29

Preston Peltier is running a lower groove than the other top-five competitors and it seems to be working.  He just moved to the inside of Hemric on lap 95 and  they remain side-by-side now on lap 100

8:27

Preston Peltier has just pulled to the door of Joey Gase on the inside for third on lap 92.  Give Peltier third.

8:27

TJ Reaid has brought the #51 back to pit road under green on lap 90.

8:27

Now everyone up front is single file.  It’s Moore, Hemric, Gase, Peltier, Lawler, BLaney, Loden, Jackson, Jones, Legendre, Wakefield and Nooner.

8:26

Gase, using the high side, has pulled even with Hemric now for second as they run side-by-side for second on lap 87.

8:26

Ryan Moore remains in the lead with Hemric second, but here comes Joey Gase into third.

8:25

GREEN lap 84

8:25

TJ Reaid reports that he thinks a tire is going down on his #51.  KBM team has checked pressures and Reaid is back out on the track.Heath Hindman’s #91 was just pitted by Kenzie Ruston’s crew, who are pitted right next to Hindman and out of the race.

8:23

CAUTION lap 85.  Alex Fleming has pounded the outside wall in turn one with his #05.

8:22

Lap 78, TJ Reaid, Ryan Blaney and Andy Loden are three-wide for sixth.  Loden has backed out now, but Reaid is fallin gback himself.  Give sixth to Blaney, seventh to Loden and eighth to Reaid, who is sliding back like a rock.

8:20

Battle for 13th and 14th on lap 75 saw some heavy contact between Trey Mitchell and Steve Legendre.  Both have continued on and we stay green.

8:19

Ryan Moore has just put Dylan Presnell a lap down on lap 72.

8:19

Preston Peltier has just rocketed around TJ Reaid for third.  It’s Moore and Hemric up about four carlengths on Peltier, Reaid and Gase.

8:17

We’re halfway of the Orange Blossom Special 125.  The race is now official, but we remain under green without rain.

8:16

Preston Peltier has jumped to the inside of Reaid for third.  Behind them, Joey Gase and Ryan Lawler are door-to-door, as well.

8:14

GREEN FLAG lap 53

8:14

Restart order:  Moore, Reaid, Hemric, Lawler, Peltier, Gase, Loden, Blaney

8:14

On pit road under this yellow:  Jimmy Weller and Tayla Orleans

8:12

YELLOW FLAG lap 53: George Gorham has spun in turn four.

8:11

TJ Reaid is making his first PASS South start here at OCS with Kyle Busch Motorsports, but this is not his first time here.  He set fast time for the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour event here in 2009 with his family-owned #41, but that event was rained out and never made up.

8:10

TJ Reaid jumped to second on the inside on the restart as Hemric didn’t get a good run on the drop of the green flag.  It’s now Moore, Reaid, Hemric and Lawler who has moved to fourth around Peltier.

8:04

The leaders are approaching lapped traffic.  First to go down a lap is Tim Pinion.

8:03

Kenzie Ruston has slowed with a puff of smoke on her #39 on lap 35 and she’s on pit road.

8:02

Give fifth to Lawler now on lap 32.

8:02

Top four are single file.  Fifth is a battle between Lawler on the inside and Loden on the outside.  They’re door-to-door.

8:01

Battle for third as TJ Reaid jumps to the bottom of Peltier in turn three and has it a lap later, taking over third on lap 27.

7:58

YELLOW FLAG lap 24: Jimmy Weller has spun in turn four.

7:57

Peltier got a run on the leader on lap 19, got into Jones’ door, but let off to allow Jones to collect it and continue leading.  That allowed Hemric to make a move to the outside to take the top spot on lap 21.

7:57

GREEN FLAG lap 18: Devin Jones has gotten clear of Daniel Hemric, allowing Preston Peltier to jump to the inside of Hemric for second.

7:55

Lucky Dog is Justin Wakefield, who is now on the lead lap.

7:55

Running order: 1) Jones  2) Hemric  3) Peltier  4) Moore  5) Blaney  6) Loden  7) Reaid  8) Gase  9) Lawler  10) Fleming

7:54

YELLOW FLAG lap 18:  Tayla Orleans has spun off turn four.  She has continued on, remaining on the lead lap.

7:53

7:49

Kyle Benjamin has emerged from his #71 and appears to be okay.

7:48

Cars on pit road: Heath Hindman, Tim Nooner, John Stancill and Jimmy Weller.  The hood is up on Nooner’s car, while there’s fender repairs going on on the other cars on pit road from the mass check-up on the backstretch.

7:47

YELLOW FLAG lap 13:  A major checkup off turn two sent Kyle Benjamin into the outside wall.  Heath Hindman, Jody Lavender and a few others got some damage trying to avoid the crash.  All drivers except for Benjamin have pulled away.  They are hooking Benjamin’s car up to the wrecker.

7:45

On the restart, Kyle Benjamin slapped the outside wall for the second time in this race so far.  He has continued on and is running at the back of the pack.

7:45

GREEN FLAG (double file…all restarts in PASS are)

7:44

Tayla Orleans has hit pit road with her #93.  Her only crew member, her father, is making an air pressure adjustment in the right-rear tire.

7:43

We’re working lap nine under caution  1) Jones  2) Hemric  3) Peltier  4) Moore  5) Loden  6) Gase  7) Blaney  8) Reaid  9) Gale  10) Weller

7:03

The Legends Car feature has started, but it only took two laps for the red flag to come out for an eight-car pileup in turn one.  All drivers have emerged okay.

Comment From Stiggy A full house despite bad weather! Looks like PASS is onto something here.

6:20

Fans are flocking here to OCS.  There’s a line of cars deep onto Highway 57 right now trying to find room in the parking lot.PASS Officials offered free admission with $10 per car parking tonight and the response so far has been incredible.  There’s proabably about 2,000 fans here in the grandstands with even more on the way.

Limited Late Model time trials are complete.  Next up was supposed to be the Street Stocks, but they are now drawing for their feature staritng spots due to a low car count.  Legends Cars are now on the track for their qualifying session.

5:57

Comment From Mary Candace Hey Guys!!! We are loving the updates from the living room!! Wish we were there but we wish everyone luck! SLM #18 BMR

5:56

Many people inside the pit area today wanted us at 51 to express get-well messages to Bradley McCaskill, a PASS South regular that was entered into today’s event, but was injured in a four-wheeler accident last Sunday.  McCaskill is back at his Raleigh, NC home after spending a night in the hospital watching today’s Trackside Now coverage.  On behalf of all of us here at OCS, get well soon Bradley and we hope to see you back in your Grafix Unlimited #18 car real soon.

5:52

Time Trials for the Limited Late Models are on the track right now minus perhaps the fastest car of all the LLMs here today.  Young Matt Daley was quickest in early practice sessions, but he experienced problems beneath his #9 machine earlier today.  They have diagnosed the issues to be either with the axle or the transmission, but they have loaded the car up and will be back to compete at OCS at another time.

5:49

We have double Trackside Nows running right now here on Speed51.com.  We appreciate you checking out PASS South Trackside Now here at Orange County, but we suggest opening another web browser and checking out Tucson 200 Trackside Now from “The Madhouse,” Bowman Gray Stadium just down the road in Winston-Salem, NC.  Elgin “Stat Boy” Traylor is at BGS covering all the action on Trackside Now.  To check it out, click the following link:  http://www.speed51.com/2010_Stories/Mods_Other/Trackside_Now_Bowman_Gray_Stadium_4-24.html

5:45

Yup…as mentioned previously, Jay Fogelman, Spencer Wauters, Steve Legendre and Jody Lavender were all late to the pre-qualifying grid, so they received only one lap of qualifying.  Originally, they were supposed to not even get to time trial if they were late, but that was amended.  With weather in the area, officials are not wasting, nor are they allowing teams to waste any time here today.

5:29

Wauters was in a backup car, as they had an oil pump fail in their primary #5 machine in practice and the team pulled out the backup for qualifying.

5:28

Wauters, Jay Fogelman, Steve Legendre and Jody Lavender only received one lap of qualifying because they were all late to the grid for qualifying.

5:27

Spencer Wauters spun on his one and only lap, but did not hit anything. He pulled into pit road off turn four before completing his lap.

5:01

Comment From chris vandergriff Hey Duke. Finished a new exhaust system at Hedman Husler Hedders for justin wakefield late thursday. Glad to see him in the top 3 practice times. Thanks for the entertainment on a crappy, wet atlanta day!!! Much respect to you my friend.

5:00

It appears that Justin Wakefield will be the first car to time trial.

4:56

Time trials are scheduled to take place in about 5 minutes.

4:55

After the driver’s meeting, we caught up with Ryan Lawler, who is running on fumes right now today. Lawler is once again piloting the #74 Hamke Race Cars house car owned by Robert Hamke just like he did at Hickory in the Easter Bunny 150 earlier this week. Like at Hickory, Lawler had a hard time getting the handle on his car in practice yesterday, so he and the team loaded up after practice and worked on the car at the Hamke shop in Mooresville, NC until 2:30 this morning. They left their shop around 8am, so the entire team is quite tired, but hoping for a good result here today.

4:51

There was a slight mist during the driver’s meeting and for a few minutes afterwards here at OCS. There are now track drying efforts ongoing and the track is looking relatively dry. The good news is that there is a brief shower coming through on the radar now with a decent-sized window before the main blob of rain and storms hits us later tonight.

4:51

Comment From Guest how does the weather look now?

4:50

Corey Williams helped the Jimmy Weller team quite a bit in recent weeks. The former PASS South regular and a former winner here at OCS has jumped behind the wheel of Weller’s car in a recent test and is here at the track assisting the Weller team today.

4:50

Comment From Guest Goodluck to Jimmy Weller! Corey Williams is a great mentor!

4:50

Indeed, Evan Jackson is a friend of David Stremme’s and a familiar face to the CRA Super Late Model fans in the Midwest. Jackson is behind the wheel of Stremme’s #35 machine here today.

4:49

Comment From Greg Wood – CRA Hey Duke! Good work today! Lots of rain in Indiana, so I get a chance to follow along for a little while. Great to see Evan Jackson back in a racecar! Hope you’re able to get the show in today.

4:45

We just got back from the driver’s meeting, here are some notes:- Qualifying is set to begin at 5pm. If cars are not in line in their necessary position for time trials, they will have to compete in the last-chance race.

– The top-20 will be locked in during time trials. The top-10 will redraw for their starting positions.

– There will be a 20-lap last-chance race. The top six finishers in that will transfer to the feature. Then, there will be two PASS provisionals, making for a 28-car field tonight.

– Weather is in the area (it started misting during the driver’s meeting, in fact). If the feature gets to the halfway point, lap 63, then it is an official race.

4:05

The driver’s meeting is scheduled to start in just a few minutes. We’ll go check in on things down in the pits and be back with all the news.

4:00

We checked in with some of Mitchell’s camp and as of this point, none of the stolen merchandise from the team’s trailer in Mooresville, NC last week has been recovered. There’s still a reward out for any information that may lead to the arrest of the thieves or the recovery of the stolen merchandise.Tools, radios and other equipment were taken from Mitchell’s rig, which was kept in Mooresville, NC, last week. For more information regarding this issue, or a better description of the items missing contact Trey Mitchell directly by calling 512-496-7845 or emailing [email protected]

4:00

Comment From Guest Any word on if Trey Mitchell has found any of his stuff that was stolen?

3:56

On track now is a 10-minute scuff session for PASS South Super Late Models.

3:48

PASS Officials just informed Speed51.com that on Saturday, June 5th, the night after PASS South runs at Ace Speedway in North Carolina, there will be an open test at North Wilkesboro Speedway for PASS Super Late Models and any other divisions that wish to run at the famed track in North Carolina. Fees will be $20 per person.PASS South Super Late Models will hit North Wilkesboro for a feature event on September 3rd and 4th, the Labor Day Classic.

Another driver making his first-ever PASS South race is Daniel Hemric.  Hemric made one Pro Late Model start in 2009 with BDI Racing, where he set fast time with a new track record and finished second at Concord Speedway in a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event.  Hemric has now teamed up to drive for Jeff Fultz Racing in the #66 machine that Fultz himself has run in Pro Late Model events from time to time.

NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour fans checking in to see our Trackside Now coverage after checking out Spring Sizzler qualifying at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) today may recognize one name here in the OCS pit area.  Joey Civali, brother of WMT regular James Civali, is here handling the spotting duties for Kenzie Ruston.  Civali has spent the last few years serving as manager for NASCAR racer Joey Logano and still does, but he took this weekend off from Talladega and is here helping out the 860 Motorsports team for Ruston.Civali’s brother James qualified 22nd for the Spring Sizzler.  Bobby Santos III set fast time at Stafford earlier today.

Several fans have asked on our live comments how today’s weather is holding up.  Right now, it’s cloudy and mild here at OCS.  Much like the rest of the Southeast today and tonight, there are threats of showers and storms, but models that we’ve seen have the majority of the rain coming through Rougemont, which is just outside Durham, NC, around or after the start of features tonight.  Everyone here is hoping that the rain stays away a few hours longer so we can get a full racing card in here tonight.

Comment From carson IS THE RACE ON RTR LIVE ALSO GO CAR#48 BATTEN RACING WHISH HAD TO SEE IT LIVE BUT I AM STILL THERE WITH SPEED51

2:47

The second practice was slowed once for the spun Kyle Busch Motorsports #51 driven by TJ Reaid.  Reaid broke the trailing arm bracket on the #51 in turn one and slid to a halt between turns one and two, but he never hit the wall.  The KBM team, led by crew chief Chris Gabehart, is hard at work making the repairs under the rear of the #51 as we speak.
