6:18
Later this week, we will have more stories from Oktoberfest as well as photo galleries from the race. Thank you for logging in today and good night from a very chilly Lee USA Speedway (NH).
6:17
We congratulate the winners of the headlining feature races today – Stephen Masse (Modified Racing Series), Matt Frahm (Super Late Models) and BJ Piekarski (Late Models), the 2010 Modified Racing Series champion Jon McKennedy and all of the feature winners today here at Lee USA Speedway (NH) during Oktoberfest 2010. Because of logistical problems with the Modified Racing Series officials and the race rundown being in the infield pit area, a number of races left to run and the fact that there is no tunnel to get there and back, we will not be able to bring you the full field rundown of tonight’s race.
6:14
After all of the races are complete tonight, the feature winners from today will be allowed out onto the track to have victory lane photos taken. We still have feature races left for Mini Trucks, Small-Block Supermodifieds, Hobby Stocks, Ironman/Roadrunner/FWD cars and more.
6:13
Victory lane has been postponed for the MRS finishers due to the large number of feature races left to run today.
6:12
It appeared that the handling went away on Dwight Jarvis’ car as he dropped through the top ten.
6:12
Comment From Aaron from co

hat happen to the 28 car?

6:12
The unofficial top five finishers are Stephen Masse, Ken Barry, Max Zachem, Louie Mechalides and Andy Seuss.
6:11
Ken Barry caught Stephen Masse and the two worked through lapped traffic together on the last lap. Barry was faster, but Masse had the position and held onto it for the victory.
6:11
Stephen Masse has won the MRS feature.
6:10
Ken Barry has caught Stephen Masse.

6:09
There are now seven laps to go.
6:09
Ken Barry is catching leader Stephen Masse, but might not have enough laps to get to him.
6:08
We are now at lap 90.
6:08
Chris Pasteryak is also on the move. He is now up to seventh.
6:07
It appears that the handling on Andy Seuss’ car may have gone away a bit after the restart.
6:07
Max Zachem has caught Andy Seuss in a battle for third place.
6:07
Ken Barry is now second.
6:07

We are now at lap 80.
6:05
Stephen Masse now has a half-straightaway lead over Andy Seuss.
6:05
Comment From ISMA FAN

thanks for the great coverage today as always

6:05
Louie Mechalides is now up to fifth.
6:05
Louie Mechalides is looking under Dwight Jarvis for fifth.
6:04
Ken Barry is now fourth.
6:04
Stephen Masse is pulling away with the lead. We are now up to lap 75.
6:04
Comment From Aaron from co

hope the 28 car wins

6:04
No, JR Baril is done for today after crossing the line in the SLM race first and the LM race fifth and then being disqualified from both finishes due to tires that showed up too soft on the durometer.
6:03
Comment From Guest

is j r baril racing in this division or did he run out of tire softener?

6:03
Right now, everyone is looking to be cautious on the restart due to the unknown track conditions.
6:02
Restart – Stephen Masse still leads.
6:02
Thanks for following along.
6:02
Comment From Mike Ray

Thank you for your coverage today.

6:02
We will still be on lap 68 for the next restart.
6:02
The caution came out for Todd Annarummo, who slowed coming to the green flag and then dragged the left front corner of his car down the fronstretch and through turns one and two.
6:01
Green flag….No, wait, it’s back to caution again.
6:00
Restarting just outside the top ten in the MRS feature will be Jon McKennedy, Todd Annarummo, Rowan Pennink and Norm Wrenn.
5:59
No, it has not rained for quite some time. But it is very cold and lack of grip on the track is what seems to be the big problem.
5:59
Comment From jim mac donald

is it still raining?

5:59
MRS officials have decided to have a single file restart at this point.
5:59
There will be 32 laps remaining in the Modified Racing Series main event. Currently, Stephen Masse leads Andy Seuss, Max Zachem, Dwight Jarvis, Ken Barry, Kevin Iannarelli, Louie Mechalides, Mike Holdridge, Chris Pasteryak and Rob Goodenough.
5:56
With all of the schedule changes, we are not sure at this point.
5:56
Comment From Clayton

When are they running the ironman division

5:56
After a delay of more than three and a half hours, the Modified Racing Series cars are back on track for warm-up laps.
5:55
No.
5:55
Comment From bill hoag

have they run the small block supers yet

5:42
Reportedly, Kirk Alexander has told MRS officials that he feels the track is safe for competition with the Modifieds.
5:42
Next up will be the feature race for the Dwarf cars. This isn’t looking promising though as one of them managed to spin out between hitting the track in turn four and getting to the start/finish line during pace laps.
5:41
Five small-block Supermodified competitors also hit the track for hot laps to test out the track.
5:38
Right now, Kirk Alexander is getting ready to take a few hot laps with his Modified to try out the track and see if it is suitable to continue the MRS feature race.
5:06
There are now 31 four-cylinder Roadrunners being turned loose on the track for their feature.
5:04
The Roadrunners are now taking to the track as the Modifieds on pit road are getting covered up again.
4:56
The B-Main for the Hobby Stocks is over, which is a good thing since there was a hard wreck on the last lap that likely would have brought about a red flag and a lengthy clean-up. The driver involved hit the backstretch wall head-on and actually got airborne after the initial impact. Track officials are reporting that the driver in conscious and being attended to by emergency personnel.
4:54
The rain hasn’t been the only problem when it comes to getting a race-able track surface here late this afternoon. It has gotten so cold, that there is not much heat in the track and lack of grip has been a big issue – even in the lower divisions that run treaded DOT-approved, but not street legal, race tires.
4:51
We’ve had several caution periods in this Hobby Stock B-Main. At the same time, the skies beyond turn four keep getting darker and darker.
4:50
Drivers for the four-cylinder classes have been paged to their cars, so another schedule change could be coming soon.
4:48
Radar shows that there is rain in the area again.
4:48
The latest news from the Modified Racing Series is that Carl Pasteryak, one of the most experienced drivers in the field, will take a number of test laps right after the conclusion of the Hobby Stock B-Main. He will let the series know if he feels that the track is dry and safe enough to race on. At that point, a decision will be made whether to finish the last 32 laps of that feature or not.
4:44
The sky is getting grayer off turn four.
4:43
The B-Main for the Hobby Stocks is getting started with a familiar color – yellow. Two drivers wrecked going into turn one at the start and they wrecked hard. One driver looked ready to get out of his car to show his displeasure at the other driver, but as he started to climb out the window, his car started rolling down the banking. So he hopped back in and the other car drove away. Yup…it’s been that kind of afternoon here since the rain delay.
4:39
Victory lane has been called off for the LM Sportsman due to the fact that we are now so far behind on the schedule for today’s races.
4:38
The B-Main for the Hobby Stocks is up next.
4:38
Jesse Bousquet has won a wild Late Model Sportsman 25-lap feature.
4:37
Bill Ahern has a battered racecar, but he still has the lead with four laps remaining in the Late Model Sportsman feature.
4:33
We are still sorting out (under caution) the lineup for the restart of the LM Sportsman race.
4:32
Grant Athier has gone from the lead after that incident to being sent to the rear of the field for his role in causing the wreck to just parking his racecar.
4:32
Mark “Sparky” Mciver is showing his displeasure on the track at Grant Athier for his role in that incident.
4:31
Mark “Sparky” Mciver and Bill Ahern have wrecked to bring out another caution in the Late Model Sportsman feature. This happened during a battle for a lead after the latest restart.
4:30
We are now up to lap 20 of the Late Model Sportsman race. Predictably, we are under caution. Currently, 13 of the 22 starters are still on the track.
4:26
If this Late Model Sportsman feature ever ends, and we’re not sure that it will, the Hobby Stock/Strictly Stock B-Main will run before the conclusion of the Modified Racing Series main event.
4:22
Right now, we are 13 laps into a caution-plagued Late Model Sportsman feature. Currently, PASS Sportsman driver Mark “Sparky” Mciver is leadfing with his #58 over track regular Bill Ahern’s #51.
4:19
We caught up with Ben Lynch during the rain delay after he was involved in a hard wreck during the Late Model feature. Lynch had shifter problems, which put him back in the field, but was progressing back up when Jeff Zudiema spun on the frontstretch and shot back up the track in turn one. Lynch had nowhere to go and hit Zudiema’s car hard. Lynch told us that he is fine, but his car is not so good. He and his father will now have to reclip it for next season, when they hope to come up with sponsorship money to run the spring ACT Late Model here at Lee. Currently, Lynch is attending UNC Charlotte as an engineering student and came back north to his homestate of New Hampshire to run here this weekend.
4:04
The Late Model Sportsman cars in competition here are similar to the PASS Sportsman cars that tour Northern New England.
4:03
The track is now dry. The Late Model Sportsman/Street Stock feature is now on the track to dry it out a little bit more and put down some rubber before the remaining 32 laps of the Modified Racing Series event are contestedf.
3:15
The track is either getting drier or the drivers are getting braver, because the speeds of the street cars out there putting heat into the racing surfaced has picked up quite a bit in the past few minutes.
3:11
We are going to take another break while the race is still delayed here at Lee. The rain has basically stopped, then again it never really got to be too hard in the first place, but it is damp and cool – so drying out the track could be a challenge. We’ll keep you posted.
3:10
Cavaliers….Suburbans….Blazers….Maximas…even a Peterbilt! No, that isn’t what can be found in one of the used car lots on nearby Route 125, it is what is currently on track at Lee USA Speedway on a cold and wet Sunday afternoon trying to dry the racing surface so that the conclusion of the Modified Racing Series feature event can take place.
3:08
During the rain delay, we spoke to Matt Frahm and BJ Piekarski about their first big oval track victories, which came earlier today in the Super Late Model and Late Model divisions respectively. We will have those stories on Speed51.com in the near future.
3:07
Another thing that we have heard during the rain delay is that a four-race mini series for Super Late Models could take place at Lee USA Speedway (NH) next season.
3:06
If the track dries, the MRS feature will be put on hold while some of the other divisions hit the track and dry it out further and put down rubber during their feature events.
3:05
Currently, an interesting mix of vehicles are making laps to try and dry the track. There are Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Mini Trucks, street cars, SUVs, rescue trucks, pick-ups and even a semi truck circling the track right now.
3:04
We have learned that JR Baril was also disqualified out of fifth place in the Late Model feature today.
3:03
We are still under a rain delay.
2:18
We are going to take a brief break to talk to some of the drivers from the race held earlier in the day. Since it is so cold today, we don’t expect for the track to dry quickly. As one person pointed out though in the press box, “At least this isn’t snow!”
2:17
If the race cannot continue, it would be a completed event as we made it past halfway already.
2:17
The red flag is out and cars are being sent to the infield pit area to be covered up.
2:16
It has now started to rain.
2:15
Strike that, after spending several laps in the pits under caution, Jacob Dore has gotten back out just in time to restart the race. He’ll still be on the lead lap too as caution laps do not count in MRS competition.
2:15
Jacob Dore appears to be out of the race.
2:13
Just outside the top five are Kevin Iannarelli, Louie Mechalides, Mike Holdridge, Chris Pasteryak, Rob Goodenough and Jon McKennedy.
2:12
Currently, Stephen Masse leads Andy Seuss, Max Zachem, Dwight Jarvis and Ken Barry.
2:12
Carl Pastreyak, Rowan Pennink, Jimmy Kuhn, Jacob Dore, Kirk Alexander, Norm Wrenn and Joe Doucette are among those making yellow flag pit stops.
2:11
Jimmy Kuhn was the spinner. This is the first caution of the day and it will officially come on lap 68.
2:10
The caution is out at lap 69 for a spin on the backstretch.
2:10
Stephen Masse currently enjoys a full straightaway lead.
2:10
Still outside the top 10 are a number of guys who usually contend for victories on the MRS tour – including Jon McKennedy, Chris Pasteryak, Rowan Pennink, Les Hinckley, Kirk Alexander and Jimmy Kuhn.
2:08
Carl Pasteryak has gone a lap down.
2:07
We are now at lap 60 and there have been no major changes in the rundown.
2:07
Jacob Dore has now been lapped.
2:07
Michael Murphy is now pulling into the infield and might be done for the day.
2:07
Michael Murphy has been lapped.
2:06
Ken Barry is now up to sixth.
2:05
At lap 50 of 100, Stephen Masse enjoys a strong lead over Andy Seuss.
2:05
We are approaching the halfway point of this race, so if it does rain it will be an official show for the MRS.
2:04
Dwight Jarvis is now closing in on third-place runner Max Zachem.
2:03
Dwight Jarvis has passed Kevin Iannarelli for the fourth spot.
2:03
Stephen Masse has really started to stretch his lead.
2:03
Joe Doucette has been lapped by leader Stephen Masse.
2:02
Stephen Masse has raised the bar and started to pull back away from Seuss.
2:01
Andy Seuss is all over Stephen Masse for the lead currently.
2:01
Another driver struggling today is Jon McKennedy, who is also well outside the top 10 currently. McKennedy has already clinched the 2010 MRS championship.
2:00
We are now at lap 30.
1:59
A few of the regular hotshots of the Modified Racing Series are struggling today – Chris Pasteryak, Rowan Pennink and Les Hinckley are all deep in the field.
1:58
We are now up to lap 23.
1:58
Stephen Masse leads Andy Seuss, Max Zachem, Kevin Iannarelli, Dwight Jarvis, Norm Wrenn, Mike Holdridge and Louie Mechalides.
1:56
The leaders are currently single file.
1:56
Andy Seuss has passed Max Zachem for second place.
1:55
Jack Bateman has pulled into the infield and appears to be out of the race.
1:55
Stephen Masse is pulling out to a nice lead.
1:55
Stephen Masse is now leading.
1:54
We are now at lap 10 of 100.
1:54
Andy Seuss has moved up to third.
1:54
Currently, Max Zachem leads Stephen Masse, Kevin Iannarelli, Andy Seuss and Dwight Jarvis.
1:53
Several drivers, including Joey Jarvis, Mike Douglas and Eric Hudson, did not qualify for the MRS feature after Saturday’s heat races and consi.
1:52
Max Zachem has led Stephen Masse into turn one on the first of 100 laps.
1:52
Max Zachem will lead the 24-car field to the green flag.
1:52
Kirk Alexander is being sent to the rear of the field for leaking fluid during the warm-up laps.
1:51
The warm-up laps are now completed for the Modified Racing Series teams. It is bone-chilling cold here today.
1:51
If one becomes available, it will be shared. At this point, that is not something that is available.
1:51
Comment From Joe M

top 10 run down?

1:50
No, there will be another eight features races today although we won’t have live coverage of most of those events.

1:41
Now that the Late Model feature is wrapped up, the Modified Racing Series feature is next up.
1:40
BJ Piekarski has won over Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Donnie Lashua, Tom Fuller and JR Baril.
1:39
Two laps to go in the LM feature.
1:39
JR Baril is slipping back even further and is barely clinging to a top five run.
1:39
Donnie Lashua made slight contact with JR Baril in a battle for fourth, but gained the position.
1:38
Donnie Lashua has closed up to JR Baril for fourth place.
1:38
There are eight laps to go.
1:38
Tom Fuller has now gotten by JR Baril.
1:38
BJ Piekarski has pulled away to a big lead.
1:38
Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is now up to second.
1:37
Apparently, Wayne Helliwell, Jr. does not think that JR Baril got into him in the SLM feature because they are both racing very hard, but very clean, for second place in the LM feature.
1:37
Helliwell and Baril are side-by-side for second place.
1:36
Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is battling JR Baril for second place.
1:36
We are now at lap 35 of the LM feature.
1:36
BJ Piekarski has now slipped into the lead.
1:36
Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is still running third. Tom Fuller is slipping back through the top five.
1:35
BJ Piekarski is battling JR Baril for the lead.
1:35
BJ Piekarski is now up to second place.
1:35
On the restart, JR Baril maintained his lead.
1:33
This caution was very well-timed for Wayne Helliwell, Jr. – who got up to third-place but had quite a bit of ground to make up to get to the leaders.
1:33
We are now under caution at lap 30.
1:33
The caution is out for a spin by Seth Duval.
1:32
Currently, JR Baril has a slight lead over Tom Fuller. Further on back, Wayne Helliwell, Jr. has gotten up to third.
1:32
I’d guess too that tires are one of the first things checked in Late Model tech today.
1:32
Comment From Guest

i bet russ will find out………………

1:31
We are halfway finished in this 50-lap Late Model feature.
1:30
Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is now up to fourth in the #0NO Late Model.
1:30
JR Baril leads slightly over Tom Fuller.
1:30
We don’t know, but we can tell you that the Late Models were already lined up when SLM tech was finishing up.
1:29
Comment From Guest

you dont suppose that they would soak the tires on this late model too?

1:28
We are now at lap 15.
1:28
JB Baril is now closing back in on Tom Fuller for the lead.
1:28
Tom Fuller seems to be pulling away slightly from Baril.
1:27
JR Baril is now up to second place.
1:27
Tom Fuller has now come alive on the bottom and taken his #14 Late Model into the lead.
1:27
Chuck Colby is now back into the lead.
1:27
On the restart, Aaron Fellows inched ahead into turn one.
1:27
The full field of Modified Racing Series machines are lined up in the infield.
1:26
Ben Lynch’s car is now exiting the speedway surface on the back of a wrecker.
1:25
This will likely be a lengthy clean up period in the Late Model feature.
1:25
We are under caution at lap 10.
1:24
The caution is out again for a multi-car stack up. Jeff Zudiema spun into the infield going into turn one. He just spun back up across the track directly in front of Ben Lynch’s car. Zudiema’s car picked up speed across the wet grass and got T-Boned by Lynch. Zudiema drove away, but Lynch’s car is heavily damaged. Lynch exited the car and is not injured, but his car has very heavy front clip damage.
1:23
That is a good idea, but there are over 300 cars here today and the infield pit, fronstretch pit, lower pit, upper pit and backstretch pit areas are all being used.
1:22
Comment From Guest

when charlie crocco used to announce…. he went down into the pits and met all the drivers…to get thier names

The official word has just been received – if the weather cooperates, there will be a total of 14 feature races here today.
1:19
Currently, Aaron Fellows leads Chuck Colby, Tom Fuller, JR Baril and Dave Farrington, Jr.
1:19
Since this is an open show, there are not full rosters available for each feature. The track announcer just called “Not a Clue” as the driver of one car in the Late Model field.
1:18
The caution is now out for an incident involving Andy Saunders and Donnie Lashua.
1:17
JR Baril is already up into the top five.
1:17
Tom Fuller is up to third. Ben Lynch runs fourth.

1:12
White Mountain Motorsports Park (NH) Late Model regular Ben Lynch will start on the pole for the Late Model feature.
1:11
JR Baril was disqualified after his tires did not pass a durometer test after the 50-lap SLM feature.
1:11
Matt Frahm is now going to be the Super Late Model feature winner.
1:10
We have just just received word that JR Baril has been disqualified from the Super Late Model victory due to a “rules infraction” discovered in post-race tech.
1:10
We don’t have an exact number, but it is said to be in the mid to high 20s.
1:09
Comment From Guest

how many late models?

1:09
JR Baril, Donnie Lashua and Wayne Helliwell, Jr. are all doing double duty between the Super Late Model feature and the Late Model feature.
1:08
Twin State Speedway (NH) regular Aaron Fellows, who has made a few PASS North starts in his career as well, is also entered in the Late Model feature.
1:08
Former ACT Late Model regular B.J. Piekarski is entered in the Late Model feature today.

12:57
James Logan has passed Nick Sweet for the lead of the Allison Legacy North Series feature.
12:57
Considering the weather, the fan turnout today in the grandstands is respectable. The pit area is very full of racecars and people.
12:57
Comment From Guest

hows the crowd looking?

12:54
There were 11 feature races scheduled for today originally, but a few adjustments were made by adding a B-Main for the Hobby Stock/Strictly Stocks and adding the Mini Trucks to the schedule. So fans will get to see over a dozen racing events today so long as the weather holds out.
12:53
The Modified Racing Series teams are starting to line up in the infield. That feature is scheduled to be right after this Allison Legacy feature and a Late Model race.
12:52
Nick Sweet has the early lead of the Allison Legacy feature race.
12:52
Comment From Guest

did baril spin helliwell?

12:52
The trailers of the MRS teams that are parked in the infield blocked a good view of the backstretch where the spin happened, but it did not appear that Baril spun Helliwell as Baril was slightly in front of him as they exited turn two.
12:50
Thunder Road Speedbowl (VT) track champion Nick Sweet is starting on the pole for this Allison Legacy Series race as he helps out a fellow Vermont race team by shaking down their racecar for a few late-season events. He won the recent race at Waterford Speedbowl (CT) driving this same car.
12:46
The next feature up with be the Allison Legacy Series North main event.
12:46
JR Baril be be back in action later on for the Late Model feature race.
12:46
Comment From Guest

let us know who the top ten was when you get a chance

12:45
If we get a rundown, official or unofficial, from the track we will share it. At this point, I’m expecting that to be unlikely to happen though.
12:44
JR Baril held off Matt Frahm, Rich Eaton and Chris Wilk. Unofficially, Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is being announced as the fifth-place finisher. If Helliwell was in fact on the lead lap, Bobby Cabral will be the fifth-place finisher.
12:43
JR Baril has won the 50-lap Super Late Model feature.
12:42
Restart – JR Baril still leads.
12:42
Currently, JR Baril leads Matt Frahm, Rich Eaton, Chris Wilk and Bobby Cabral. if Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is being scored on the lead lap, he is sixth.
12:40
The race is still under caution at lap 47 as the field is reset by timing and scoring officials. We are not quite sure right now if Wayne Helliwell, Jr. is on the lead lap or one lap down after his spin. He is one of the drivers whose restart position is in question.
12:39
Running in the Super Late Model feature today, all of the way from Pennsylvania’s Mahoning Valley Speedway, is 14-year-old Austin Kochenash.
12:37
Currently, at lap 47, JR Baril leads Matt Frahm, Rich Eaton and Chris Wilk.
12:36
The caution is now out for a spin on the backstretch by Charlie Colby.
12:36
We are now at lap 45 of 50.
12:35
JR Baril now enjoys a strong lead over PASS North regular Matt Frahm.
12:35
The race is staying green. We think that Helliwell has lost one lap due to his spin.

Oktoberfest is a race that has been held here at Lee USA Speedway for decades. It is the season-ending event at the track and in true open show tradition, rules that are more flexible and open allow competitors from tracks all over to come and race. Today, we have seen cars representing tracks such as Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME), Canaan Fair Speedway (NH), Seekonk Speedway (MA), White Mountain Motorsports Park (NH) and several other facilities in the pit area.

We’ll be honest. Today’s weather here is geared more towards the dedicated race fan. The sky is gray and there is a nip to the air. However, it has not rained this morning and although is a potential for a passing shower or two, nothing major enough to wash out the day is predicted in the rain department. This morning, when checking the area radar though, it wasn’t just patches of green (rain) that needed to be worried about. There were a few pink patches showing sleet and freezing rain in the air. Thankfully, it is well above the 32 degree mark right now.
