Keith Rocco has won tonight’s SK Modified feature, two nights after having to completely rebuild the rear end of his car after Saturday’s crash.  Patrick Emerling held on to second, with Jeff Choquette, Chris Jensen, Nichole Morgillo and Ronnie Silk rounding out the top-six.
10:16
Five laps to go and Rocco is still in command.  Choquette has closed to Emerling’s bumper for the runner-up spot.
10:15
Lap 8 and Jeff Choquette has moved to third.  Keith Rocco now has opened up a full-straightaway advantage on Emerling in second.
10:13
Five laps in, Keith Rocco has a sizable advantage over Emerling with Chris Jensen third and Jeff Choquette fourth.
10:11
GREEN FLAG
Patrick Emerling again holds the advantage into turn one, but Keith Rocco rocketed ahead down the backstretch to lead lap one.

Ronnie Silk has pulled away from the wreck.  He was stuck on top of Jimmy Zacharias’car.  Silk is on pit road without much visible damage.  Jeff Choquette remains on track, as well.
10:04
GREEN FLAG/YELLOW FLAG
A big pileup on the start of the race involves Ronie Silk, Jimmy Zacharias, Dave Salzarulo, Jeff Choquette and Nichole Morgillo.  Positions three, four, and five were three-wide into turn one and everyone was wadded up.Morgillo has pulled away, but Choquette and Silk are stuck on the track and are going up on a hook.

Comment From Guest

Stephen Nasse is a heck of a driver CONGRATS to him on another fabulous finish! Sounds like maybe he had the edge, but Kirkpatrick was too busy “blocking” rather than driving clean 🙂

9:26
Comment From Guest

Speed 51 GREAT JOB

9:22
Top five (unofficial): Austin Kirkpatrick, Stephen Nasse, Dustin Delaney, Kurt Jett, Brandon Johnson
9:20
We will have the full results at the end of the night as well as the victory lane photo of Kirkpatrick’s car with the nose all beat up.
9:19
According to the officials, the cars did touch past the finish line, but there will not be a penalty to Nasse as they were both battling and Kirkpatrick was driving down the track trying to block for position.
9:18
Austin Kirkpatrick’s car is being pushed to victory lane.
9:17
Contact was made on the final lap between Stephen Nasse and Austin Kirkpatrick.  They battled hard, door to door for the lead coming to the checkered flag.  From our vantage point in the booth, neither driver touched past the flag stand as Austin Kirkpatrick took the checkered, but appeared to still be correcting as he went past the flagstand, nosing into the inside wall.
9:14
CHECKERED FLAG
Austin Kirkpatrick won the race, but paid the price as his car wrecked past the finish line.
9:13
Stephen Nasse is on the inside for the lead.  WHite flag.
9:13
Dustin Delaney is third, followed by Kurt Jett.
9:12
Five laps remain and it is a two-car battle for the win.
9:12
Austin Kirkpatrick still leads, but Stephen Nasse has rocketed to second.
9:11
GREEN FLAG
9:10

9:07
YELLOW FLAG: LAP 18
Patrick Laperle and Eric Jones tangled in turn one as they spun.  Another driver spun as well, but everyone was able to drive away.Just before they wrecked, Laperle made a great save in turn four as he went sideways after trying to go three wide through the corner.
9:05
GREEN FLAG
9:05
Kurt Jett appeared the jump the start, so down the back stretch, they threw the yellow to restart the field.
9:04
GREEN FLAG
9:04
Top 10: Austin Kirkpatrick, Kurt Jett, Brandon Johnson, Sean Bass, Dustin Delaney, Stephen Nasse, Patrick LaPerle, David Wagner, Cardell Porter, Eric Jones
9:02
YELLOW FLAG LAP 17
Wayne Smith and another driver had trouble in turn two.
9:01
Kurt Jett is still second with Brandon Johnson third.  Sean Bass is now fourth with Dustin Delaney fifth.
9:00
Austin Kirkpatrick still leads with the field scrambling behind.
8:59
GREEN FLAG
8:59
We are one lap to green again.
8:56
Top five: Austin Kirkpatrick, Kurt Jett, Dustin Delaney, Brandon Johnson, Stephen Nasse
8:56
The cars are rolling again.
8:53
Officials are checking under cars to see if someone is leaking fluid as they are stopped here on the front stretch.
8:52
Dustin Dunn’s car was just hauled away from the accident area and all the other cars have pulled off.  Right now it is just fluid cleanup happening.
8:52
Correction, it wasn’t Dustin Delaney.  It was Dustin Dunn.
8:51
The RED FLAG is being brought out for cleanup.
8:50
Brandon Watson was involved as well as Michael Pilla and others.
8:50
We are thinking that it started with the #44 of Wayne Smith getting sideways, but we are not sure.
8:49
All drivers are ok, but some race cars were torn up.
8:49
YELLOW FLAG LAP 12
Dustin Delaney spun in turn four, causing a major pile-up.
8:48
GREEN FLAG
8:47
This time AUstin Kirkpatrick chose the outside.
8:43
Top five: Austin Kirkpatrick, Kurt Jett, Dustin Delaney, Brandon Johnson, Stephen Nasse
8:43
YELLOW FLAG LAP 12
Thor Anderson received a tap and went around.  The cars slowing up behind saw Brandon Sweet getting damage to his second car of the week.
8:41
Austin Kirkpatrick is trying to lead once again and does down the backstretch as he passed Kurt Jett on the inside.  There are 11 laps complete.
8:41
Dustin Delaney is third with the rest of the field side by side behind.
8:41
Kurt Jett has the lead now as Austin Kirkpatrick is probably second-guessing that inside lane choice on the restart.
8:40
The leaders are still side by side for the lead, one lap after the restart.
8:39
GREEN FLAG
8:39
Austin Kirkpatrick chose the inside line for this restart, something that is different from what drivers yesterday were doing.
8:39
Top five: Austin Kirkpatrick, Kurt Jett, Thor Anderson, Dustin Delaney, Brandon Johnson

He has worked his way to the pits.
8:38
It was James Novak III.
8:38
YELLOW FLAG LAP 6
A car has hit the wall in turn four.
8:36
Thor Anderson is third, followed by Dustin Delaney.
8:36
Austin Kirkpatrick has worked his way by Kurt Jett for the lead, and crossed the stripe on the third lap out front.
8:35
Kurt Jett got out to the lead, but behind him it has been a mad scramble.  Cars have been bouncing off each other the first few laps.
8:34
GREEN FLAG
8:34
This will be a 25-lap feature.

how will that durometer work on chords? haha

8:32
The Antique Racecars were supposed to be next, but they did not show up to race, so we are moving on to the Crate/ASA Late Model race.
8:29
In victory lane, Duke with Speed51.com saw that the right rear tire on Ronnie Silk’s Modified was down to the cords, so he might not have lasted more than a few more laps.Silk did comment on it and it will be on our video recap tomorrow.
8:24
We will have the complete results later in the night as well as the victory lane photo.
8:24
John Jensen finished third in the Tour race.

Comment From Guest

wtg ronnie

8:23
On the last lap, Eric LeClair, who was getting lapped every few laps, was on the low side going into turn one, giving Ronnie Silk a bit of distance on Ted Christopher.  TC tried to gain back the time he lost by driving back to Silk’s bumper in turn four, but the lapped car cost him too much time.
8:22
CHECKERED FLAG
Ronnie Silk wins the Tour Mod feature with Ted Christopher second.
8:21
The white flag is out and the leaders are tied together.
8:21
Two laps remain as Ronnie Silk leads Ted Christopher.
8:20
Gary Putnam has slowed on the track.
8:20
Eric LeClair has been lapped multiple times and seems to be in the way as he has just about wadded up the leaders multiple times.
8:19
During the pass, it looked like TC slowed a bit, but he is right on the back bumper of Ronnie Silk for the lead.  This is a two-car race at the moment.
8:19
Ronnie Silk has taken the lead from Ted Christopher at lap 15.
8:18
Kevin Goodale is putting pressure on John Jensen for the third position.  Rob Fuller runs fifth.  11 laps are on the board.
8:17
A lapped car just about caused the leaders to wreck.  At lap eight, TC leads Ronnie Silk, who just took the position from John Jensen.
8:16
The top four are tied together for position.
8:16
Russ Savoy and David Roys headed down pit road.
8:15
Ted Christopher got out to the lead again, but the top three just about wrecked at the flagstand on the start.
8:14
GREEN FLAG
8:11
There will be a complete restart.
8:11
YELLOW FLAG LAP 0
Tim Sullivan has hit the wall in turn one.
8:11
Ted Christopher got out to a big lead on the first lap.
8:10
GREEN FLAG
8:10
During the driver’s meeting, the SK and Tour drivers voted to not allow the leader to choose on restarts, so for those two divisions on the restarts, the leader will always be on the inside line (other divisions here the leader chooses).
8:08
The Tour Mods are warming up their tires now and we should be going green in moments.
8:05
Ted Christopher, who is starting on the outside pole, is going for his fifth win in a row.  He won the opening race here this year as well as the last three races in last year’s Speedweeks events.
8:04
Results of all races are at the end of each night’s action in Trackside Now.

Comment From Guest

Good to see Charlie Pasteryak racing tonight. He is one of the nicest guys in racing.

4:16
Another Tour-Type Modified addition to this evening’s festivities is longtime Modified campaigner Charlie Pasteryak in the #5 machine.Gary Putnam and Kevin “Bono” Manion are here with their #7 Tour-Type Modified as well.  In the past, the two principle crew members of the #1 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car have had drivers such as Ryan Newman and Kyle Busch drive their black #7NY Tom Baldwin tribute car here at New Smyrna, but the car is now blue and will be piloted by Putnam himself tonight.

Actually, the time frame is inaccurate.  According to the time stamp from our Trackside Now, the race ended at 6:35pm.  Up in the booth we heard about the issue at 6:58pm and by 7:24pm we were already back up in the booth after interviewing drivers, including winner Lonnie Sommerville, after he was declared the official winner.

Comment From slm cew

Actually it was about 50 minutes from when the race ended to when they checked the 23,and 78’s tires.The fast guys will still be fast because they all soaked but only 5 of them got caught. If they were wrong they should have been thrown out after tech, not after the race, Oh can you say…..Mr. Brooks trying to get revenge and showing the NSS guys he wants to be the man

3:54
Thompson International Speedway (CT) regular Tim Sullivan is here tonight driving the backup Joe Brady #80 machine as a teammate to Ted Christopher.
3:52
Also, Ricky Brooks and Jeff Choquette will be on Speed 51 Radio at 6pm Eastern on RaceTalkRadio.com and 454.5000 at the track today.
3:51
There are a lot of opinions on this controversy and topic.  Later today we will have a video with driver reaction and information from Ricky Brooks on Speed51Video.com.Make sure to head to the forums and discuss this topic.  There are a lot of comments coming in, but we cannot post them all due to time restraints.  In the forums you can discuss this topic 24/7.   www.247lounge.com/speed51

Jeff Sutcliff, the regular tech man for NSS has all but held ricky’s hand all week. The local regulars at NSS better step up and be right for the regular season.

the call to let 6th 7th and 8th be considered the winners was complete bulls[edited]. everyone knows tires get harder after they cool, there was atleast 25 minutes between the race and there tires bein checked, even a few tires had been pulled off and already stored away in trailer

Comment From ned

It”s only illegal if you get caught and 5 of them got caught

Comment From Lefthander Chassis

I think Ricky Brooks can save Speed Weeks and make it a more desireable place to go. Its got a bad rep in the midwest that the southern guys get away with cheating and soaking tires and the travelers dont. This is what speedweeks needs. Go Ricky Brooks

3:49
We were told last night that they get zero points, but we will verify that later today as the officials are not in the booth at this time.
3:48
Comment From Guest

Do disqualified drivers get points as Speed Direct is reporting ??

3:48
Up next is qualifying at 4:30pm.  The SKs and the Tour Mods are the only classes qualifying today.  Other divisions will start based on their previous race finish with an invert thrown in for fun.
3:46
Practice has concluded for the day.

Comment From Terry

It’s a shame R. Brooks can’t be the tech guy at all Fla. tracks

3:31
It depends on how you look at it.  Do you blame the police officer for writing you a ticket for going 65mph in a 35mph zone, or do you blame yourself?
3:30
Comment From Guest

I think what happened last night with the 5 SLM is very sad, that one person controls their wins or not…

3:30
Jeff Choquette was out on the track in practice earlier with a different car.  It was his 9:1 engine car he was practicing.  He is not sure which car he will use for their next race. While the Super Late Models are off tonight, Choquette might race anyway tonight.  He told Speed 51 that he is contemplating racing the Fountain Motorsports SK Modified that Gary Fountain drove the other day.
3:28
The TBARA Sprints are back on the track for their final practice of the day.
3:16
Comment From Tom. S

They need a ricky brooks and every track!

3:13
Jeffrey Gallup, who was involved in a crash in Saturday night’s SK Modified feature, has repaired his #44 car for action tonight. All cars involved in “the big one” in the SK Modified feature, including Gallup, Keith Rocco, Nichole Morgillo and Ronnie Silk, are back here for tonight’s race.
3:13
Comment From Alex

Is the 44 sk all back together?

Racing is a family sport and that showed up today here at the track.  While Crate / ASA Late Model racer Jerick Johnson is on the track turning laps in practice, his family is up in the booth watching.  His kids were cheering “go daddy, GO!” while he drove around the track.

If you missed last night’s action here at the track, you missed a big story at the end of the Super Late Model feature where the top-five drivers were thrown out of tech for having too soft of tires on the durometer check.  That gave the win to sixth-place finisher Lonnie Sommerville.Check out the Trackside Now coverage from yesterday:

12:48
Travis Eddy is the son of the legendary Mike Eddy.
12:48
Travis Eddy just bounced his Florida Modified off the wall on the front stretch after possible contact with another car.  His right front tire came off the car and bounced down the track, hitting the side of his car before jumping the wall seperating the track from pit road and landing near the safety truck down by turn one.  He is ok and no one got hit by the tire.
12:31
