We caught up with John Smith about his earlier mishap with the throttle of the No. 25.

Smith told us that he radioed to his crew as he pulled onto the track from pit road that something felt “different’ about the throttle pedal. Going down the backstretch, he put his hand up at the throttle kill switch just in case an issue arose, which it did as he entered turn three. Smith said the throttle pedal never returned when he let off it, so he immediately killed the ignition and was able to skid to a stop before he hit the outside wall.

Smith said he and the crew found a problem quickly and the issue never came up again for the remainder of practice.
