D.J. Shaw will not compete in tomorrow's NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event here. The New Hampshire native wrecked his #60 in practice today. The team does not have a back-up car at their disposal. The second car that is in their trailer is actually a Super Late Model that he will race in the PASS North event at White Mountain Motorsports Park (NH) on Saturday night. Shaw's team has packed up and his family is now leaving the track as he focuses on White Mountain - where he hopes to be strong on Saturday night - he finished second in the most recent PASS North race there.

2:57
This is it before qualifying is scheduled. There will be a practice session held on Saturday morning as well. No on-track activity is scheduled for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour teams tomorrow.

Is there a second practice scheduled or is this it?

2:52
Erick Rudolph, Todd Szegedy and Justin Bonsignore are working together to practice running in a draft together.
2:50
James Civali has moved up to third on the speed charts.
2:50
One of the veteran teams in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competition will be on the sidelines after this race. Don King's #28 operation will not run the final two events of the 2011 season, as reported by Shawn Courchesne of the Hartford Courant this week. So the race on Saturday will be the final race of the season for the team with driver Woody Pitkat."It could be our final race ever," said King this morning.

King has been a long-time car owner on the Modified Tour. He's had Pitkat, Doug Coby, James Civali and Tyler Haydt behind the wheel of his Modifieds throughout the years.

2:43
Checked in with 2011 SK Modified Champion Ryan Preece and they are already done for practice today.
2:43
Justin Bonsignore has rocketed up to second on the speed charts.
2:42
Currently, Ron Silk has been quickest in practice. Eric Beers, Ryan Newman, Mike Stefanik, Todd Szegedy, Doug Coby, Rob Fuller, James Civali, Justin Bonsignore and Erick Rudolph are behind him on the speed charts.
2:41
It is getting darker currently off turn four here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. We are under heavy overcast conditions, but it has not rained for several hours.
2:41
Mike Stefanik has now moved up to fourth on the speed charts.
2:40
Woody Pitkat and Mike Stefanik are currently working together to practice some drafting here in WMT practice.
2:40
Mike Stefanik only ran six laps of practice in the #36 Modified. It is currently ranked 19th on the speed charts.
2:39
Todd Szegedy has been the busiest man in practice so far. He has run 22 laps so far this afternoon and is currently fourth on the speed charts.
2:38
There were 29 official entries for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race this week. A 30th entry, by Hillbilly Racing for driver Daniel Hemric, was withdrawn.
2:37
Eric Beers is now up to second on the speed charts.
2:37
Currently, there have been 28 cars that have practice for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.
2:36
The team told our Bob Dillner not long ago that they do not plan on practicing the car, but it has since been uncovered and moved out to pit road. Stay tuned for further updates.
2:36
Comment From RePete

Doesn't the 4 have to make a practice lap to get a provisional? Other sites saying Todd will practice it today

2:34
Ryan Newman will be running the #77 Modified this weekend instead of the #7 that he has raced here at New Hampshire over the past few seasons. Newman crossed the finish line first with Kevin "Bono" Manion's #7 here in July, but was later disqualified from the victory. Manion was suspended from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour for the rest of the 2011 season, so Newman's entry is being listed with ownership by Marcy Putnam - the wife of Gary Putnam - a part-time competitor on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and close friend of Manion's. Putnam's number is #77, so that is what Newman is sporting this weekend.

2:31
After a few hot laps the Ted Christopher #36 car has been pushed back to the garage. TC did not practice it as Mike Stefanik took the wheel for a few laps.
2:31
One Modified driver who is not here this weekend is Andy Seuss. The New Hampshire native typically runs all of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races here at the Magic Mile, but this weekend there is a schedule conflict with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race at Tri County Motor Speedway (NC). Seuss is currently second in the NASCAR WSMT standings and will be racing in North Carolina.

LOVE Civali's new paint scheme

2:26
Ron Silk is currently the quickest driver in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice ahead of Ryan Newman, Justin Bonsignore, Doug Coby and Rowan Pennink.
2:25
So far today, the car has been covered up. However, there is a photo opportunity being planned for it after practice is completed along with the #36 NASCAR Sprint Cup car. Both racecars will feature a Richie Evans Memorial paint scheme this weekend.
2:24
Comment From Dave

any chance you could post a picture of the Mystic Missle?

2:24
We have confirmed that Bobby Santos, III is not here at the track today. He is stuck in Chicago at the airport on his way to New England. Santos' Mystic Missile team will not practice or attempt to qualify today, and he will have to start at the rear of the field for Saturday's race with a provisional.

2:21
Ted Christopher is not here at the track today. He is in Connecticut with his wife, who is undergoing some medical treatment. Mike Stefanik has stepped up to help Christopher's #36 team and is currently practicing that Modified. Christopher will not be able to attempt a qualifying lap today though and unless qualifying is rained out, he will start at the rear of the field with a provisional.
2:17
Bryon Chew is out on the track as well.
2:17
Todd Szegedy, the current NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour point leader, is also out on the track and has posted the quickest lap so far. But with only two other competitors to run against early on, that isn't a very telling statistic.
2:16
Rowan Pennink is also out on the track.
2:15
The Modifieds have fired and practice has begun, Ronnie Silk is the first competitor to make it onto the track.
2:14
After a quick lunch break we are back underway with practice.
2:10
Although it is cloudy and gray here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, it has not rained for awhile and if conditions remain the same, we should be able to have practice for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and qualifying for both the Mods and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East competitors this afternoon.
2:09
Darrell Wallace, Jr. ended up positing the fastest lap in that practice session. He was followed on the speed charts by Daniel Suarez, Max Gresham, Brandon McReynolds, Benny Gordon, Matt DiBendetto and Corey Lajoie.
2:05
NASCAR K&N Pro Series East practice has concluded. NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice is scheduled to start at 2:15pm.
2:04
We have been told by Dale Shaw that a cut right front tire is what caused D.J. Shaw's wreck. We are still not sure of their back-up car situation. That is currently being addressed by the team.
2:03
Chuck Buchanan had a scary moment in practice - if he was looking in his mirror. Buchanan was coming out of turn four when the faster cars of Dale Quarterley and one car that we couldn't see the number on, closed in quick and split Buchanan's car.
2:00
Only four drivers on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East entry list have won before here at New Hampshire - Eddie MacDonald, Matt DiBenedetto, Max Gresham and Dale Quarterley.

1:57
Rick Gdovic, in the #64 entry, has run the most laps of anyone in practice so far. Gdovic has turned 42 laps around the Magic Mile and is currently ranked 25th on the speed charts.
1:56
Over half of the NASCAR K&N East Series field, 22 of the 38 drivers entered in fact, are rookies here this weekend.
1:55
Matt DiBenedtto is back on top of the speed charts.
1:54
The ACT Late Models are not on track at all today, but will be a big part of our weekend of coverage.

Comment From Guest

pulling for "Old School" Dan McHattie in the ACT Race this weekend!

1:54
The rush is on! With only a few minutes left in practice, a number of cars are trying to get some laps in during this sesssion. Julian Albarracin, Ryan Gifford, Chase Elliott, Brandon Gdovic and several others have just taken laps or are currently on the track.
1:53
The Modifieds are up next. (Speed51.com)
1:50
D.J. Shaw has been released from the infield care center. After the conclusion of practice, we will try to get a word from him on what happened to his #60 machine.
1:50
The green flag is back out in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East practice. The #6 of Darrell Wallace, Jr. is the only car currently on the track.
1:48
The red flag is currently out - although we don't see any incidents on the track. There could be some moisture out there to bring out this stoppage.
1:45
We will have the full rundown once that information is released at the conclusion of the practice session.
1:45
Comment From Guest

run down in practice speeds?

1:44
The green flag is back out in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East practice.
1:43
A number of former East Series drivers have found their way to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as well. Joey Logano and Martin Truex, Jr. are the best known of that bunch however the most successful one this season so far has been Paul Wolfe. Wolfe is the crew chief for the #2 Penske Racing team of Brad Keselowski and he's a former driver in the East Series as well.
1:42
Several drivers entered in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race this weekend are graduates of the East Series. Among those drivers are Austin Dillon, Ricky Carmichael, Miguel Paludo, James Buescher, Cole Whitt, Peyton Sellers and Todd Peck.
1:40
The red flag is currently out in this practice session.

D.J. Shaw's #60 is being hooked up to a wrecker. It will need to be towed into the pit area. Shaw quickly got out of the car and walked around, so he does not appear to be as damaged as his car is.
1:38
Shaw's #60 has heavy damage to the front end.
1:37
D.J. Shaw has just wrecked on the frontstretch in practice. He is out of the car, but the machine is heavily damaged. The caution is out.
1:35
Corey LaJoie has just posted the fastest lap of this session so far. Matt DiBendetto and Alex Bowman are right behind him on the speed charts.
1:34
Alex Bowman has rocketed up to second place on the speed charts so far.
1:33
The #88 of Corey Williams was black-flagged during this practice session for a currently-unknown reason.
1:31
Robert Johnson looks to make his third NASCAR K&N Pro Series East start this weekend. The son of NASCAR Hall of Famer Junior Johnson finished 24th at Bowman Gray and 17th here at NHMS earlier this season.
1:30
So far, practice for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East teams has been clean and green - with no spins, wrecks, exploding engines or other incidents.
1:29
Unofficially, the current top five in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East practice are Matt DiBenedetto, Brett Moffitt, Daniel Suarez, Corey LaJoie and Max Gresham.
1:28
If any driver in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series field has a "hometown advantage", it would be D.J Shaw. Shaw hails from the nearby town of Center Conway, New Hampshire - just over the White Mountains from New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
1:26
There is a long history of Maine drivers competing in what is now known as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East division here at New Hampshire. Kelly Moore, Andy Santerre, Ricky Craven, Dick McCabe, Joe Bessey, Ryan Moore and Mike Rowe are just a few. Today, there is one driver from the Pine Tree State who is looking forward to making his second series start here at NHMS. Corey Williams, from Boothbay, is driving the #88 entry this weekend. Williams' day job is that of a fabricator for the #24 Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR Sprint Cup team. He is also a proven winner in PASS South Super Late Model competition.
1:23
The championship battle in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East division might not be too close, but the battle for Rookie of the Year honors is a little bit tighter. Currently, Alex Bowman leads Chase Elliott and Corey Lajoie by only 14 points. Andrew Smith and Cody Hodgson are another 11 and 12 points further back respectively.
1:23
Checking with NASCAR officials it looks as if most if not all the cars have been on the track.

Cars are going around the speedway with rain drops still coming down.
1:11
Robert Johnson, Andrew Ranger and DJ Shaw are among those out practicing right now.
1:10
NASCAR Timing and Scoring is not presently available for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East practice session. We do expect to have results of the session after its conclusion though.
1:08
It was a few minutes past one before the East Series cars hit the track for practice. A little bit of extra track drying was needed, so even the revised schedule isn't able to be followed to the minute. We expect that given the changing weather of the day, there will be a somewhat fluid schedule with changes being made on the fly this afternoon.
1:08
Comment From Smith Racing

Well it is 1, any update?

1:06
A small group of NASCAR K&N Pro Series East cars are now out on the track to start their practice session.
1:06
If there is going to be someone visiting victory lane at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the first time after the conclusion of tomorrow's NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race, it would be a good bet that Brett Moffitt would be the best bet to break on through.Moffitt's #00 Michael Waltrip Racing team swept both 2010 races here at the Magic Mile with Ryan Truex behind the wheel. Moffitt finished second in the early summer race here at NHMS and he has momentum on his side. Moffitt has placed second in the last three events on the East Series schedule - here at NHMS, at Columbus and at Greenville-Pickens.

We haven't seen one of the "ELGIN" street sweepers yet today, but we can tell you that the smell of jet fuel is heavy in the air as track drying is underway. It has not rained for a little bit here, but the humidity is still very high - which is making the drying process a challenging one.
12:38
Comment From Matthew Dillner

Is ELGIN out on the track drying it? By Elgin, I mean "ELGIN" the track service truck, NOT "Stat Boy" 51's Elgin Traylor. See you all tomorrow. Hoping this weather improves today and this weekend.

Modified teams were all basically waiting on the weather, but activity has started up strong as the skies are dry and the track is coming along. We were told by one East team that they HAVE to have at least a short practice in order to get cleared to race. It's part of the series rules.

11:45
Track drying crews are making progress.
11:39
There is a mathematical possibility that Max Gresham could clinch his first NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship this week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. If Gresham wins, he would eliminate Brett Moffitt if Moffitt finishes 35th or worse in the 36-car field, Darrell Wallace Jr. if Wallace finishes 23rd or worse and Matt DiBenedetto if DiBenedetto finishes 13th or worse. Other elimination scenarios come into play depending on which driver leads the most laps,
11:39
Last week Todd Szegedy too the point leader after picking up the win at Lime Rock Park (CT). The point battle with him and Ron Silk is super tight coming into New Hampshire.
