As we switch back to our East coverage with time trials coming up in less than an hour we forgot to mention that Jimmy Weller will be making his East Series debut this weekend at New Hampshire. Weller is running the same car that Ryan Blaney ran two races with earlier in the season. The Dave Blaney machine will pilot one of Weller's rides this weekend as he will be at Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) for the PASS South race on Saturday.

Comment From DT

Good luck this weekend Eddie MacDonald, Bobby Santos, Woody Pitkat, Ryan Preece, DJ Shaw, Joey Pole, Andy Seuss, Matt Frahm (and you too TWISTY) from all of your friends from the DT100 for Make-A-Wish!

2:37
Scoop from the KNPSE: Eddie MacDonald's team is changing the motor but is in no hurry. They aren't exactly guaranteed a spot, but they do have provisionals in this series and it's very likely they will get in through provisional if needed, so they're not in a rush because they need to make sure they do it right.
2:36
The Modifieds of teammates Wade Cole and Glen Reen sit on pit road.
2:30
Strike that.....practice continues for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour after a brief lull in the action. Bryon Chew, Eddie Flemke and Richie Pallei, Jr. are among the drivers who have just got back on the track.
2:29
Earlier this week, NASCAR announced a list of the top ten drivers in the history of what is now known as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Since the series has been anchored at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for much of its existence, there couldn’t be a more fitting place for the list to be unveiled. All ten drivers on the list will be at the track this weekend to meet fans as well. Some of these drivers are still driving racecars and some are now in the shadows of racing. Each of the drivers though is no stranger to the track these days, whether retired or not. We’ve kept tabs on what each driver has been up to these days and will count down from ten during this week’s Trackside Now coverage with a few updates.

Here is number nine on the list...

9. Dale Shaw – The 1994 North Series champion might be even busier in racing these days than at any point in his driving career. His business, Dale Shaw Race Cars, builds dozens of ACT Late Models, PASS Super Late Models and weekly series Late Model and Sportsman cars every year. Shaw also turns wrenches on his son D.J.’s racecars – which range from NASCAR K&N Pro Series East machines to Super Late Models to racing cars. He occasionally even races a kart himself and his last touring series races were in 2008 when he ran a pair of PASS Outlaw Super Late Model shows.

2:28
Practice for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has concluded here at NHMS. Those teams will qualify a little bit later in the day. We will post practice speeds from this session as soon as they become available.
2:27
Ryan Newman's #7NY Modified sits on pit road.
2:21
Practice is still ongoing for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour teams . We have been clean and green so far in this session with no crashes or other mayhem taking place.

2:14
Right now, the grandstands at NHMS are empty but that won't be the case later this weekend. Tickets for all three days of racing are available by calling the track at 603-783-4931.

TC arrived, hopped in his car shortly after, and is now making laps.
1:37
Ed Flemke, Jr. and Patrick Emerling have been able to hit the track. Both were being held for fifteen minutes in practice because their Crew Chief's were late for a morning meeting.

Big East car count, How many will start tomorrow?

1:31
You'll have to forgive NASCAR K&N East Series driver Clay Campbell if he gets distracted this weekend by things like concessions stands, traffic patterns or any other aspect of how the NHMS facility operates. Campbell's other job is that of Track President at Martinsville Speedway (VA) - so there is no doubt that he'll be sure to notice many things here that your typical race fan or driver would never even pay attention to.
1:28
Bryon Chew is looking to make his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour start at the NHMS track this weekend, as he joined the Tour full-time this season. He's no stranger to the track though. Chew has a resume that includes 23 NASCAR East Series starts at NHMS. Of those, he ended one event in the top five and four within the top ten.

There is a "Cup Section" to pit road during NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice today. Former NASCAR Cup Series team owner Andy Petree's #5NC Modified is parked right next to current Cup Series driver Ryan Newman's #7NY Modified on pit road. Just because those two drivers have name recognition doesn't mean that they get any better real estate here at NHMS - pit road assignments are based on current WMT points and neither driver, or their teams, have run any Tour races so far in 2011.
1:26
Comment From Ron

Awesome, Love the mods, Couldn't get down from N.B. this weekend, but will be there in full force in Sept! Thanks guys for the coverage. Much appreciated!

1:25
Doug Coby has a freshly rebuilt engine in his #52 Modified this weekend. The engine was rebuilt with NHMS in mind and should have plenty of power for Coby to unleash once he goes out to practice.
1:24
Early in Modified Tour practice, many drivers are staying off the track. Matt Hirschman, Eric Beers and Doug Coby are a few of the notable drivers who are standing in their pits waiting for the rubber from the East Series cars to wear off a bit before going out. What about Ted Christopher, who has won five Mod Tour races at NHMS? He's not in his car...or his pit either. TC is nowhere in sight early during practice, which shows that he isn't in much of a hurry to log more track time here at NHMS.
1:24
No idea on that one, but both teams looked happy and confident on pit road prior to practice starting

We start with….

10. Dick McCabe – Every so often, the Maine racing rumor mill buzzes about a possible return to racing by the “Irish Angel” Dick McCabe. None of those rumors have proved to be true as far as McCabe returning to the driver’s seat, but you can still find him from time to time watching the action at short tracks like Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME). McCabe still runs a busy trucking company hauling seafood and bait throughout New England and the Canadian Maritimes. In fact, Speed51.com’s Mike Twist passed a metallic green McCabe Bait truck on his drive from Maine to New Hampshire Motor Speedway today.

12:41
We will have about fifteen minutes left in practice when it resumes.
12:41
The track clean up was because Eddie MacDonald blew an engine. We will try to see if he can get a backup motor. If the race was today, it might be tough for him to make the show but he can probably fall back into the field on a provisional and get a new power plant overnight.
12:39
Corey Williams makes laps as he attempts his debut this weekend (51 Photo)
12:34
Cars have slowed on the track for a caution. Might be debris as a quick scan of the track by us and the TV crew don't see any crashed cars.

We should note from earlier that Michael Cherry is back on the race track. Oil line issue fixed.

11:44
Right now we don't have any laps times to give you. We will have the speed chart at the end of practice.
11:42
Eddie MacDonald is on the track he has a busy week coming up as he will be looking to make history next week at the Oxford 250, Speed51.com will be there covering all the action. MacDonald is also a big gun here at New Hampshire with three wins, nine top 10s in 21 career starts at NHMS.
