Martin Truex, Jr. is now in the media center chatting about the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase for the Championship, but reflected on one of the series he graduated from on his way up the ranks, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.

“It’s changed a lot since the days when I was in it. When I was in it, it was mostly Northern-based teams. Now it’s a lot of Cup teams owning cars with a lot of young kids making their way up. Eddie MacDonald, for an example, was someone who was competitive and did really well. Nowadays he’s getting out-moneied. But, it’s a great developmental series and a lot of great young drivers coming up through the series.”

1:46
Two-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Champion Mike Olsen, who is making his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut this weekend in a car owned by fellow New Hampshire native Frankie Stoddard, was 44th of 45 in Sprint Cup practice.
1:43
Thanks…we love being here and bringing all the action to those who can’t be here with us. But, if your travels ever allow, don’t miss these short track series here at NHMS. It’s perfect weather, in the 60’s right now, and not a cloud in the sky. Absolutely gorgeous here in the Granite State!

Yes, Matt’s brother Tony is the spotter for Kyle Busch in the NASCAR National Series ranks, while their dad, also Tony, was a five-time NASCAR Modified Champion.

Is Matt Hirschman related to Kyle Busch’s spotter?

Matt Hirschman told us that he plans to finish out the NWMT season with Goodie Motorsports. He said that with what he and the team learned in their first race together at Thompson, they should be pretty good when the Tour holds its season finale at the Connecticut 5/8-mile next month.

He drove the Boehler “Ole Blue” No. 3 this season before injuring his wrist and undergoing surgery following an SK Modified crash in July. Ted Christopher replaced Rocco in the car and will finish up the season in the No. 3, but Rocco is expected to return and will be in a second Boehler Tour car beginning next week at Stafford.

The weather down in the Deep South is getting noticeably cooler. For most down here it means football season, but i have a different take. It means we are getting closer and closer to “the daddy,” the Snowball Derby. Hope all is well up non-fender territory.

We have confirmed with NASCAR that the much-talked-about Yates Racing SPEC engine that drivers such as Ron Silk and Bryon Chew have competed with this season is NOT in Silk’s car this weekend. After the first WMT race here at New Hampshire, NASCAR changed the restrictor plate measurement on the SPEC engine. Silk’s team felt that it was a disadvantage and have gone back to a built engine for this race. Chew and Rowan Pennink have the SPEC engine in their cars here this weekend.

Pitkat, a former driver of the Sandra Hill-owned No. 79 team, replaces Jon McKennedy in the ride this weekend. McKennedy took over on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour when Daniel Hemric elected to vacate the 79 to focus on his Late Model career in the Southeast and Midwest after the second race of the NWMT season. While Spencer Gallagher is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada and has been a competitor in the K&N West and the ARCA Racing Series this season, he does have some Northeastern crew members at his side this weekend. David Hirsch, former crew chief for championship-winning Late Model driver Jim Peterson at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) and crew chief for former K&N East regular-turned Nationwide Series driver Charles Lewandoski, is the crew chief for Gallagher. One of Gallagher’s crew members, Stephen D’Hondt, is the son of former NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour regular and current Sprint Cup Series spotter for Jeff Gordon, Eddie D’Hondt.

It has been an interesting two weeks for current K&N East point leader Brett Moffitt. At Greenville, an event that was rained out on September 3rd, Moffitt was informed by his Hattori Racing Enterprises team that the organization did not have sponsorship and would not be able to compete at the next two races, here at NHMS and at Dover next week. Moffitt then went to Michael Waltrip Racing, a team he competed with last season on the K&N East tour and explained his situation. Because current MWR driver Travis Pastrana was going to have some logistical issues getting to Dover next week, he is giving up his seat to Moffitt. Pastrana and MWR’s Ty Norris also stepped in to help get Moffitt to NHMS.

Moffitt’s car is numbered 11, as it has been all season under the Hattori banner, but it has Travis Pastrana’s Nitro Circus logos and signage on the car. The Hattori Racing crew are working on the car, however.
