In the Qualifying Heat Races, there will be five of them and all are 10 laps each, with only green flag laps counting.

The Top Five finishers in each will transfer into the MudSummer Classic. At the conclusion of the Qualifier Heat Races, 25 teams will have earned starting spots into the main.

For the 15-Lap Last Chance Race, again only green flag laps will count. The Top Four finishers will transfer to the feature and start in positions 26-29th.

The 30th starting position will go to the most recent past series champion who has not already qualified. If the 30th starting position is not filled by an eligible champion, it will be assigned to the next highest finishing truck from the last chance race.

It is the number one Outlaw Super Late Model event in the nation! The Kalamazoo Klash XXII will take place on Wednesday, August 13 at the Kalamazoo Speedway in Kalamazoo, MI. Last year, Terry Senneker won the Klash and picked up the $10,000 check. It was the second year in a row, and third Klash win overall in his career. Mike “Bubba” Brooks, Phil Bozell and many more will try to take over Senneker’s place on top of the podium in 2014. Click here to make your plans now for this year’s event!
4:44
After Norm Benning battled door-to-door with Clay Greenfield for the final transfer spot in last year’s Last-Chance Race, Tony Stewart bought Benning’s No. 57 Truck.

“It’s a piece of history,” said Stewart. “Everybody may not remember who won the race, but everybody remembers how Norm made the show and all the teams that helped him get ready for the race.”

4:42
Tony Stewart on the Norm Benning last-chance race moment from last year’s MudSummer Classic:

“I think that moment last year of that last-chance race and those last couple laps where guys from five different teams helped him get ready for the main event, that pretty much summed up what this event is all about. You don’t see that at any other NASCAR race. There’s five different organizations that are unaffiliated with one another helping him like the old days.”

4:32
General Manager, Roger Slack (Left) addresses the media as Track Owner, Tony Stewart (Center) listens in. (Speed51.com photo)
4:32
“Last year, there were 4400 new accounts that had never been to Eldora Speedway,” said Slack. “Only 138 of those did not have tickets to an Eldora event this year. They came back, we’ve had the biggest World 100 since Tony’s owned it last fall, the Dream was back to pre-2011 levels, We had the biggest King’s Royal since Tony’s owned it just 10 days ago. We promoted, promoted, promoted and we’ll have a giant crowd here tonight.”
4:29
Stewart also opened the door that if the opportunity presents itself to have a Nationwide Series or Sprint Cup race at Eldora, “That would be the ultimate achievement for a short track promoter to pull that off.”
4:26
“I’d love for the Truck series not to be the only (NASCAR) series that comes here,” added Stewart.
4:25
“This is something that I look at not as an investment, this is a personal project for me,” added Stewart of the new infield building. “We will continue to reinvest to keep the tradition and the history of this facility thriving as long as we can.”
4:23
“When I came here as a spectator and a competitor, Earl (Baltes) had already sent the benchmark for having events that were bigger and better. They didn’t host races, they hosted events,” said Tony Stewart, track owner as he sees a second MudSummer Classic come to fruition.

Heffner attempted to qualify for the MudSummer Classic last year, but failed to make the race despite being in contention for a transfer spot in the heat and last chance race before suffering a mechanical failure.

A little history about Eldora Speedway:

Eldora Speedway is a 1/2 mile dirt track in Rossburg, Ohio, a very small town on the eastside of the state with a population of less than 500 people. The track is about halfway between Columbus, Ohio, and Indianapolis, Indiana.

The track was opened in 1954 by legendary dirt track promoter Earl Baltes, now 93 years old. Baltes sold the track to Three-Time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion, Tony Stewart  in 2004.

Over the years, Eldora has hosted USAC, the World of Outlaws  Sprints & Late Models, Super DIRTcar Big Block Modifeds as well as many other race series’.

The most famous event at Eldora was in June 2001, when Donnie Moran won a $1 million purse in the “Eldora Million” dirt Late Model race.

The track record lap here is a 12.707 seconds, set by Craig Dollansky in a WoO 410 Winged Sprint in April 2002. That equates to a speed of 141.654mph.
