Justin Milliken, currently P4, is using the same pit stall as KOMA Modified winner Zach Brewer used earlier tonight. Could that be the lucky location? (Speed51.com photo)
10:11
Lap 54: Ankrum is by Pulliam and now working Caudill for 5th.
10:10
Lap 50: Those four cars in the back – Smith, Waltz, Gdovic, Johnson – having to hustle now if they want to stay on the lead lap. They were probably hoping for a caution.
10:10
Lap 50 of 200 – Running Order:

1 Travis Swaim
2 Todd Gilliland
3 Kaz Grala
4 Justin Milliken
5 Jamey Caudill
6 Lee Pulliam
7 Alex Yontz
8 Tyler Ankrum
9 Josh Berry
10 Greg Edwards
11 Myatt Snider
12 Sam Yarbrough
13 Payton Ryan
14 Tommy Lemons
15 Brandon Setzer
16 Robert Tyler
17 David Roberts
18 Kyle Plott
19 Spencer Davis
20 R.A. Brown

10:09
Lap 49: Ankrum makes it three wide with Pulliam and Caudill but decides to fall back in line.
10:08
Lap 48: Top-three nose to tail. Three rows of side-by-side behind them.
10:08
Lap 47: Grala is indeed clear to third as Caudill has also reclaimed fifth from Pulliam.
10:08
10:07
Lap 46: Grala now wants third back from Milliken.
10:07
Lap 45: Grala shakes off Pulliam who again has Caudill at his door for 5th.
10:07
Lap 44: Ankrum is by Yontz for 7th and now we have two 14-year-olds in the top-seven.
10:06
Lap 43: Pulliam by Grala for fourth.
10:06
Lap 42: Three-wide for second as Gilliland is now in the runner-up spot followed by Milliken and Grala.
10:06
Lap 40 – Running Order (this lap):

1 Travis Swaim
2 Kaz Grala
3 Todd Gilliland
4 Justin Milliken
5 Jamey Caudill
6 Lee Pulliam
7 Alex Yontz
8 Greg Edwards
9 Josh Berry
10 Tyler Ankrum

10:05
Lap 38: It looks like pace laps right now from 3rd to 10th. Four rows of side by side racing. First, Milliken is working Gilliland for second. Behind him it’s Pulliam under Caudill.
10:04
Lap 37: Matt Waltz, Justin Johnson, Nick Smith, and Brandon Gdovic have backed way off the pace early but now are in danger of being eaten up by the leaders in the coming laps.
10:03
10:03
Lap 35: Three-wide at 7th as Pulliam, Yontz, and Edwards are all wanting the spot.
10:03
Lap 33: Travis Swaim leads Grala, Gilliland, Milliken, Caudill, Edwards, Yontz, Pulliam, Berry, and Ankrum.
10:03
Lap 32: Gilliland in turn shakes off Milliken and goes by Edwards for third. Milliken also flashes by Edwards.
10:02
Lap 31: Milliken shakes off Caudill and goes under Gilliland for fourth.
10:02
Lap 30: Caudill and Milliken again racing for 6th. We think Milliken has been every spot in the top-ten besides 1st thus far.
10:01
Lap 29: Grala follows suit, he’ll press the matter and go up to second.
10:01
LEAD CHANGE – Lap 29: Former NASCAR Whelen All-American Series North Carolina champ Travis Swaim goes from third to first in a straightaway.
10:01
Lap 28: Swaim to the outside of Gilliland in a move to take second.
10:00
Lap 25: Now Milliken comes to fifth.
10:00
Lap 24: Berry and Pulliam side by side at 8th as they await to see who wins the Milliken-Yontz tussle.
9:59
Lap 23: Milliken under Yontz as he is battling back up for sixth.
9:59
Lap 22: Pulliam just pulled a three-wide move to move up to ninth. Maybe he decided conserving right now just wasn’t for him.
9:58
Lap 20 of 200: Running Order

1 Greg Edwards
2 Todd Gilliland
3 Travis Swaim
4 Kaz Grala
5 Jamey Caudill
6 Alex Yontz
7 Josh Berry
8 Justin Milliken
9 Tyler Ankrum
10 Tommy Lemons
11 Lee Pulliam
12 R.A. Brown
13 Myatt Snider
14 Payton Ryan
15 Deac McCaskill

9:57
Lap 18: Caudill and Yontz, in 5th and 6th, at their highest position of the race thus far.
9:57
Lap 17: Pulliam is clearly on the ultra-conservation strategy. He falls out of the top dozen.
9:56
Lap 16: The only thing level right now is Edwards, Gilliland, and Swaim, riding nose to tail and running just hard enough to keep a gap back to the pack.
9:56
Lap 15: Like in year’s past, we see different agendas already. Some want to get ahead of others, some want to ride, some want to be the fastest of the slow and the slowest of the fast. Hard to keep track of the top-ten as it’s so fluid.
9:55
Lap 14: Heck, move Grala to fourth as Berry is dropping back.
9:55
Lap 13: Grala to the outside of Brown and will crack the top-five.

Lap 5: Gilliland is driving it into the corner *way* harder than anyone else right now. He is on Edwards’ bumper for the lead. Brown, Swaim, and Berry are the rest of the top-five.
9:52
Lap 3: Gilliland notes that and goes around Milliken for third and then Brown for second.
9:51
Lap 2: But Brown will fight back and actually go around Milliken for second.

Giving these teams some extra pace laps to get heat in the tires. It’s not ‘cold’ here in Myrtle Beach per say, but being next to the beach it is a humid chill here in November.
9:38
Pace laps are underway.

Come on @DavidGarboJr you’ve got this bring home the win #MB400 #mb
9:24
We hear the late models beginning to fire up in the pits.
9:24
Burt Myers is thrilled to claim his 2014 championship. He finished the year with three NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified wins, a number of victories at Bowman Gray, and now this tour’s championship. He says they had too much tire stagger today to challenge Brewer and the sticker they put on his car grew too much over the closing laps.
9:22
Brewer said that he put the deal together to run this tour back in April. He says other than raceday, he’s just had the car sit in the shop and not touch at at all. “I haven’t even put a front bumper on it”. His only regret about this season is that his wife and daughter couldn’t see him win tonight. “My July [Hickory] win was for my grandmother, tonight is for my daughter.”

Races with pit stops and a track that wears out tires are bad to the bone

9:13
Lap 123: Jason Myers by Spencer Davis at fifth.
9:12
Lap 122: Brewer has set sail.
9:12
Lap 121: Norman is slow on the fronstretch and a bunch of cars almost wad it up to avoid.
9:12
Lap 121: Brewer will have none of that as he goes three wide to scoot by both lapped cars. A gutys move down the backstretch.
9:11
Lap 120: Five to go. Brewer has a six carlength lead but he has two lapped cars directly ahead who are now side by side.
9:11
Lap 119: Sheffield now to third.
9:11
Lap 118: Bobby Sheffield suddenly on a tear. He blows by Jason Myers, he blows by Spencer Davis, and now he sizes up Measmer for third.
9:10
Lap 117: Brewer sees Ace’s raise. He puts it in another gear and opens up another 10 carlength lead.
9:10
9:09
Lap 115: It’s a two car race. They have left Measmer, Davis, and J. Myers.
9:09
Lap 113: Guess Burt “Ace” Myers had a few trump cards left in the deck. Myers is now on the Brewer deck.
9:08
Lap 111: Mike Norman and Jimmy Wallace are lapped after remaining on the lead circuit all day.
9:07
Lap 110: Brewer now visibly gapping Myers and the field. Is Myers saving anything at all we have to wonder.
9:07
Lap 108: Zach Brewer maintains a five-carlength cushion with seventeen laps to go. Burt Myers also an important cushion of his own in the points battle as Tim Brown is mired in 11th.
9:06
Lap 106: Sheffield by Tutterow for eighth.
9:06
Lap 104: Sheffield by Speeney for ninth.
9:05
Lap 102: Brewer leads Burt Myers, Bobby Measmer, Spencer Davis, and Jason Myers. Sixth through tenths is Tom Buzze, Jimmy Zacharias, Jason Tutterow, Mike Speeney, and Gary Putnam.

9:04
Lap 101: Jason Myers by Buzze to rejoin the top-five.
9:04
Lap 100 – Twenty-five laps to go. Tim Brown has only managed to make it back to tenth since the restart.
9:04
Lap 99: Brewer has three carlengths on hand on Burt Myers.
9:03
Lap 98: Davis is by Buzze for fourth.
9:03
Lap 97: Measmer will settle down in third. Buzze is fourth and Spencer Davis, on the recovery path, is up to fifth.
9:03
GREEN FLAG: Brewer with a flying start. He will clear Burt Myers, who has to contend with Bobby Measmer.
9:02
Doubling up for the restart. At the cone, leader Brewer picks the inside and Burt Myers will be the outside. Row two will be Jason Tutterow and Bobby Measmer.

8:58
Looks like ‘out of gas’ is the diagnosis on Mayfield.
8:57
Burt Myers’ crew appears ready to make a pit stop.
8:55
YELLOW FLAG – Lap 97; Mayfield slow down the back.
8:55
Lap 97: Jeremy Mayfield is off the pace and headed pit side.
8:55
Lap 96: Three-wide at third with Brown, Tutterow, and Measmer. For now Brown hangs on to it.

Dirty South-its go time

8:55
Lap 95: Zacharias and Buzze by Sutton for 6th and 7th.
8:54
Lap 93: Top-five are nose to tail. It’s a weird mix of hard racing and tire conservation as everyone wants to save what they can for the stretch run.
8:54
Lap 90: Jimmy Zacharias is now seventh over Buzze and Jason Myers.
8:53
Lap 89: Measmer under Sutton to rejoin the top-five.
8:53
LEAD CHANGE – Lap 88: Zach Brewer decides he wants the lead now. He’s to the lead and puts three carlengths on Burt.
8:52
Lap 86: Tutterow to fourth by Sutton.
8:52
Lap 85- LEAD CHANGE: As soon as Zach Brewer went under Burt Myers for second, Burt had none of that and simply flew around both Brewer and Brown on the high side.
8:51
Lap 83 – LEAD CHANGE: Tim Brown rockets into the lead. Burt Myers is second, third is Brewer with Sutton, Tutterow and Measmer all right there as well.
8:50
Lap 82: Jason Tuttertow deserves a lot of praise. Racing an old Jason Myers machine, he has been strong all night and is 5th in his KOMA Modified debut.
8:49
GREEN FLAG: Tim Brown gets the jump from the high side, but Burt Myers has the grip in the low lane to power into the lead down the backstretch.
8:49
Cone is out and we are doubled up for the restart. Burt Myers and Tim Brown, no surprise here, are going to be door to door for the lead.
8:48
Two new rear tires for Davis (Speed51.com photo)
8:47
Now Speeney and Jason Myers will pit.
8:47
Mayfield is changing a left front. That is, for lack of a better term, unusual.
8:46
Pitting are Davis, Mayfield, and Norman.
8:45
YELLOW FLAG – Lap 80: Spencer Davis loses his machine in front of the leaders. He was wobbling like he may have a tire down and the left rear seems to be down as he goes by.
8:44
Lap 80 of 125: Championship rivals Burt Myers and Tim Brown are nose to tail. Rest of the top ten is Brewer, Sutton, Measmer, J. Myers, Tutterow, Zacharias, Sheffield, and Buzze.
8:44
8:44
Comment From SHOWSTOPPER

Come on Rocket!

8:43
Lap 78: Davis has fallen to the very rear of the field. He will probably be lapped in about 10 laps.
8:43
Lap 77: Myers and Brown have pulled away from Brewer and Sutton by five carlengths.
8:43
Lap 76: Ermarrino loses another lap.
8:42
Lap 75: Bobby Measmer around Jason Myers to crack the top-five.
8:42
Lap 74: Brown all over Burt for the lead.
8:42
Lap 73: Sutton by Jason Myers for fourth. Brewer is up to third again.
8:42
Lap 72: Brown makes it three wide to grab second by Jason Myers and Zach Brewer.
8:41
Lap 71: Tim Brown under and by Sutton for fourth. Burt leads Jason, Zach Brewer, Brown, and Johnny Sutton.
8:41
Lap 71 – LEAD CHANGE: Burt Myers blows by Jason Myers at the stripe.
8:40
Lap 70: Burt Myers to second by Brewer. Brown makes it three wide down the frontstretch wanting 6th.
8:40
Lap 68: Burt Myers is up to third.
8:40
Comment From SHOWSTOPPER

The cream is getting ready to rise!

8:40
Lap 67: Sutton comes to fourth by Tutterow and Burt Myers is soon to follow.
8:39
Lap 66: Three-wide down the frontstretch as Burt Myers is storming back up through the field.
8:39
Comment From Rusty

Go Jason!

8:39
Comment From Guest

Pulling for the 02

8:39
Lap 65: Jason Myers now leads Zach Brewer and Jimmy Zacharias.
8:38
Lap 64: Davis is being gobbled up as he’s wobbling in front of the Gobble Til You Wobble 125 field.
8:38
GREEN FLAG: Spencer Davis does a major spinjob on the tires and Jason Myers will scoot away with the lead.
8:38
8:36
Frank Ruocco, not Al Ermarrino, will be given the free pass.

Both Davis and Norman elect the low lane at the cone, so third place Jason Myers will be the first to venture out to the outside line.

8:35
But we are fully sorted out and the cone is out for the restart.
8:35
It was a very slow caution/rolling red.
8:35
Comment From KW6

7 Johnny Sutton
8 Jason Tutterow
9 Bobby Measmer, Jr.
10 Gary Putnam
11 Jimmy Wallace
12 Burt Myers
13 Tim Brown
14 Jimmy Zacharias

8:28
This delay for a check of the lineup is not unusual for the KOMA Series, as has been noted by several crews we have talked to on pit road. “Every damn race,” was one crew chief’s radio transmission to his driver. The fans are growing restless as well and are starting to voice their opinions accordingly.
8:26
Tim Brown’s crew informed us that the teams had been given TWO new tires for today’s race, unlike most races this year when they have just been given one. Brown’s crew changed just the right front tire this time, electing to save their other new tire for later.
8:21
8:21
Running Order after pit stops:

1 Spencer Davis (no pit stops yet)
2 Mike Norman
3 Jason Myers (pitted on lap 34)
4 Mike Speeney (34)
5 Jimmy Zacharias (first car we saw pit)
6 Bobby Sheffield
7 Johnny Sutton
8 Bobby Measmer
9 Jason Tutterow
10 Gary Putnam

Waiting for the rest of the field to cycle through scoring.

Comment From SHOWSTOPPER

The car Zach is in has been idle for 4 or 5 years sitting on jack stands. The engine the same, many many laps on it and all they done from what I understand was put valve springs on it. May be the most talented in the field.Already won once, could this be number two.

8:10

8:10
Burt Myers’ crew will change the right rear tire and will swap the left side tires front to rear.
8:09
Al Ermarrino will be given the free pass.
8:08
\”Just be smooth,\” was the instruction to one another in the Burt Myers pit as they get ready for a stop. (Speed51.com photo)
8:08
YELLOW FLAG – Lap 63: We are the halfway point as Tommy Neal appears to have blown an engine and drew the yellow.
8:07
Lap 63: Tim Brown has hit the go button as leader Myers was getting too close for comfort. He is up to 7th.
8:07
Lap 62: Zach Brewer starting to catch the front two.
8:06
Lap 60: Burt Myers continues to lead Spencer Davis by six carlengths. Ermarrino and Ruocco are lapped.
8:06
Lap 59: After running in the top-five, first-time Myrtle Beacher Frank Ruocco has really started sliding and is about to be lapped.

From the infield, it’s quite noticeable that the entire field is not going full-throttle and in full tire-conservation mode. Leader Spencer Davis is lifting at the flagstand and doesn’t even sound up to full throttle, yet he’s pulling away from second and third who are doing the same thing.
7:41
Lap 8: Entire field still on the same straightaway. Davis is backing off even more as the Myers boys run nose to tail eight carlengths back.

Greg Edwards chuckled when we asked how he won the pole. “I dunno, I guess I was the quickest of all the sliding around. I love this track. A lot of tracks you go to, you have lots of grip and you just drive it in the corner and drive it out. You can’t do that here, That’s what makes it unique”.

Travis Swaim’s car has been removed from the qualifying line. NASCAR officials deemed the car’s right front spring to beyond the maximum measurement. Swaim told 51 that he had the spring approved by officials before practice, but officials told him to replace the spring after he had lined up for qualifying because they had been tipped off by another competitor that the spring was illegal. Swaim again reiterated that his spring was approved by officials earlier in the day and that had been practicing with it all day. Swaim was told by officials that he had to have the spring replaced by the time he was scheduled to qualify or he would have to start at the rear of one of the heat races. The Swaim team is currently working to replace the right front spring.

Once the 15-minute break begins, teams can add four tires and fuel and can perform any other adjustments as on a normal pit stop – no spring/shock changes, etc.

The flagman will start the initial start and all restarts. He will hold the flagman straight up in the air. When the front row is in the restart box in turn four, the flagman will drop his green flag and that will indicate the start of the race. Officials said this should eliminate all brake checking and “game playing” on restarts.
7:55
The 200-lap Late Model feature will feature cone restarts.
7:55
That should mean a starting field of 42 cars.
7:53
Heats will be 25 laps each. The final four feature starting spots will be given by promoters option.
7:52
The top two in time trials will be locked into the field. The third-fastest will line up on the pole of the first heat race. Fourth-fastest will be on the pole of the second heat. The top 18 finishers in each heat will lock into the field.
7:50
Time trials will be a Euro-style session. Cars will go out five at a time for five laps. The groups are set by the slowest cars in yesterday’s combined practice time sheet going out first. The fastest cars yesterday will be the last group in today’s qualifying.
