Per race officials- For the Fast 14 heats there will not be a driver moved into the field to replace Lessor.
8:48
Per race officials: Lessor can change a motor and still be locked into the 200-lap main event. If he changes the motor he will have to start at the back of the field.
8:47
Trophies being handed out. Many spectators in the pits have brought up an interesting point for those in the Northwest who remember. The haze layer and blockage of the sun, while not as bad, is similar to when Mt. St. Helens erupted in May of 1980. The thickness of smoke you can almost taste and the track’s two distinct ridge lines to the West and East are completely blocked out.
8:41
Lessor reports they threw a rod in the motor. They’re discussing their options at this time.
8:39
Jonathan Gomez: on his car: “We lost our good motor and that has been the biggest difference from last year’s car to what we’re doing here this weekend.”
8:38
Tidrick is unable to bring his car out for the trophy presentation as his crew goes to work to repair the damage to the right front fender and bracing.

You mention smoke smell. Is there a fire in the area or is this smoke coming over from the horrible fires in Washington? Thank you.

Gracin Raz: “We’re excited for the Montana 200. Things have been going well so far this weekend. It’s such a cool experience to be in a line of cars including Shane Mitchell, Shelby Thompson and at the track with a guy like Gary Lewis that this whole experience is amazing. We’ve got a good car, one that has been strong all week so we’re hopeful of making the race on time. If not, well go to work and get int through another way like a transfer. Either way this field of cars (over 40 entries) shows that Northwest late model racing is alive and well and we’re just happy to be a part of it.”

Wind has died down, but that has increased the smoke level here in the Flathead Valley. According to some longtime race fans the last time the area had this air quality issue was during the NASCAR Rumble in the Rockies race for the Northwest Tour stop in August of 1998.
6:05
Qualifying order for the late models was drawn at random. Like most races, he or she who goes out later stands a better chance to post a faster time. This track reacts to temperature; the cooler the surface the faster the speeds.
